How Healthy Rewards Works
Every time a guest purchases a smoothie or retail item at any Smoothie King location, they receive a points for every dollar they spend when they use the Healthy Rewards app on their smartphones. As points add up, they can redeem them for discounted smoothies.
The previous version of Healthy Rewards had 7 levels of redemption, explained Jennifer Herskind, Smoothie King Chief Marketing Officer.
So, when customers hit the 1,000-point mark, they get $1 off and an additional dollar off per 1,000 points. So, when they have 2,000 points, theyll receive $2 off and so on up to 7,000 points.
With the latest version of the app, weve simplified the system to a single level of redemption. When guests earn 2,500 points, therell be a $2 reward.
The process for earning those points is simple, too, because guests demand convenience as part of their purchasing experience: They just tap the Earn button on the app and scan the code at the register during each visit. Points are then added to their account.
In addition to being convenient, rewards programs should be guest-friendly, too.
We realize there are times when guests may not have their smartphone with them or might forget they have the Healthy Rewards app. Our rewards system allows guests to go into the app after theyve made the purchase, enter a few basic details that appear on their receipt, such as subtotal and time of visit, and points will be added.

The Evolution Of Smoothie King Rewards
Smoothie King realized the importance of a rewards program long before smartphones and apps were developed.
Some version of the rewards program has existed for the last 20 years, starting with punch cards. Guests would buy nine smoothies, and receive the 10thsmoothie free. In 2011, we began using a mobile app. We were one of the first in our industry to transition to a smartphone app for loyalty rewards. In 2017, we updated the app, and we updated it once more in December 2018 to its current form.
From a functionality standpoint, one of the biggest improvements has been to be able to scan once to earn, redeem and pay. Guests can use a pre-loaded amount that acts more like a debit card or they can upload credit card payment information and it will charge per transaction.
Theres also a VIP tier for guests who come most frequently, and theyll earn their rewards point at a 25-percent bonus rate.
Early in 2019, were looking to add online ordering functionality with the Healthy Rewards app. Guests will be able to customizes their smoothies, order ahead and pay ahead allowing them to get their drink as quickly and efficiently as possible.

What Youll Need To Prep Smoothies In Advance
1. Blender.
For years, I used a $40 blender. A few years ago, I received my first high-speed blender, a Blendtec. Then, a couple of years ago, I upgraded to a KitchenAid Pro Blender. If you plan to make a lot of green smoothies, or smoothies containing hard ingredients , a high-speed blender is the way to go. Yes, high-speed blenders can be pricey and require budgeting over months and years. To save money, I highly recommend checking out the Blendtec refurbished site if thats the brand youre looking to purchase.
Note: Dont let the desire or feeling that you need a high-speed blender keep you from prepping smoothies. Any blender will work great for a basic fruit/soft veggie smoothie recipe. My $40 blender lasted 8 years!
2. Freezer-Safe Jars.
If you have the freezer space and plan to freeze smoothies youre going to need freezer-safe jars. Freezer-safe mason jars are my favorite with the plastic screw-on lids. I can use them for soups, smoothies, broth, salad dressing, and so much more. They are also freezer safe thanks to the thick glass and wide mouth. The plastic lids dont rust so I recommend using them for freezing.
3. Push-Up Pop or Popsicle Molds.
I like to freeze extra smoothies in push-up pop or popsicle molds. Over the years Ive used both reusable and one-time use molds. Personally, I like the one-time use plastic moldsthey are are much better for traveling or the lunchbox since they dont require washing. Smoothies can also be frozen in popsicle molds.

App Needs Work Bigtime
I like Smoothie King quite a bit, but I find the app. quite complicated and unintuitive to use. Number 1) there is no Cart button. There have been so many times I started an order, went back to look at the selection of Smoothies, and then couldnt figure out how to get to the Cart! Number 2) I once selected to reorder an old order from the app. I hit the submit button and nothing happened that indicated I made the order . I checked the order history and didnt see anything. I subsequently manually entered the order in the app. and subsequently received an e-mail confirmation for my manually entered order. When I showed up at the store, there were 2 orders with my name on it. Long story short, the reorder was from a previous web order, which picked up on the app. I tried to explain the situation to the store clerk who didnt know what to say. I showed her my pending credit card transactions, one of which was Smoothie King and the other which showed Level up Smoothie King, both of which was done through the app.! I decided it really wasnt her fault the app. is terrible so I just took the $40 worth of Smoothies when I only wanted $20 worth of Smoothies! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

When the toggle on your reward is red and swiped to the right, the reward is unlocked for redemption, and it will apply to your next eligible order through the Smoothie King app. |

You can unlock your rewards for redemption and pause them again by selecting ‘Healthy Rewards’ from the home screen of the Smoothie King app.
From there, please tap on ‘You have X available reward’ on the bottom of the screen.
From here, you can see any rewards that are available to be unlocked for redemption or paused. Please note that not all rewards can be paused. Please note, pausing rewards does not change the expiration date of the reward.
