High Blood Pressure But I Hate Beets
Ok, lets just face the facts about beets and beet juice. Maybe the reasons nobody made up a clever rhyme about the beet is that the beet just doesnt taste as wonderful as the apple. In fact, in my opinion, the beet is downright nasty. When my mother put them on my plate as a child, I would have done anything to make them go away. I have never met anyone who felt much different about the beets taste as I feel about it. But isnt that the way of life? The things that are good for us taste terrible and the things that we want more of will usually lead to a shorter lifespan.
Thank goodness that the modern juicer has become such a popular kitchen appliance. If you dont have one, let me be the one to tell you that the juicer not only is an appliance that makes for an easy processor of fruits and veggies to ensure that you and your family are getting all the minerals and vitamins you need, but the juicer is magical in making those not-so-tasty varieties into drinks that end up being asked for by the more finicky of your children . I cant tell you how often Ive snuck a beet into my childrens bellies when they thought they were getting a tasty snack most likely bad for them. The sheer joy of seeing your family down healthy drinks as if they are consuming ice cream and cake is something Id recommend for every parent.

Beets go well with strawberries and banana in this smoothie, but they are mild-flavored enough to pair well with almost any fruit you happen to have on hand. Using frozen fruit gives this smoothie a nice slushy texture.
If you want to hide the beet flavor even more, try using some frozen raspberries!
What makes this smoothie extra-special is the addition of fresh ginger. Ginger and beets are a match made in heaven, and cover up any earthy flavor you might otherwise taste from adding beet to a smoothie.

High Blood Pressure A Scary Diagnosis
Many have heard the old saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but has anyone ever said anything positive about the beet?
Surely those that have hypertension, would have loved to know that the beet is a natural remedy for that pesky red-faced weasel that seems to creep up on us the older we get. It is a nasty illness that leaves us tired or with a pounding headache. Symptoms of blood pressure problems vary with each sufferer, but the risk to ones life remains the same for all.
Beets are one of many vegetables that are high in dietary or inorganic nitrate. When they enter the digestion system, nitrates become nitric oxide, which is a gas in your blood that can aid in widening blood vessels and aid in proper blood flow. Research scientists arent quite sure whether or not this effect can be maintained over longer periods their studies do show that a mere 8 ounces of beet juice was able to raise nitrate levels 1.5 times in patients with hypertension in one of the cheapest ways yet known.
The American Heart Association journal Hypertension performed tests and released their studies that proved that along with adequate exercise and a doctors care, beetroot juice can lend a helping hand to anyone who suffers with high systolic blood pressure. The beet is something to think about when aiming to lower your blood pressure.

Why Smoothie Recipes To Lower High Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is a measure of the pressure of your blood against your arteries. If the pressure at which your blood pumping is too high, it is dangerous. High pressure is placed on your blood vessels and your heart which can lead to a host of medical problems including heart attack and stroke.
Blood pressure is measured on two levels, when your heart is beating and the moments in between. The beating measure is called systolic while the resting is diastolic. A normal blood pressure reading for adults is less than 120 over 80. Anything over that is a cause for concern and if you hit 140 systolic and more than 90 diastolic than you are moving into serious health problem territory.
Being aware of your blood pressure rates is important because high blood pressure can be managed before it develops into something more serious. This management can include a healthy lifestyle that includes smoothies for high blood pressure as well as further management of other dietary and lifestyle choices. Always consult your medical professional if you have any concerns about your blood pressure and health.

Even our kiddos! And they know there are beets in it!

What Are Beets Good For
There are several potential health benefits associated with beets, so I love finding new ways to sneak them into my day. Be sure to try my favorite beet salad, too, if you havent yet!
Heres what I love about them:
- Eating beets may help to improve running performance and cycling performance.
- Beets may help to lower inflammation, thanks to pigments called betalains. One study suggests these might help reduce pain associated with osteoarthritis.
- The fiber in beets may help promote digestive health.
- The nitrates in beets may also promote brain health by increasing blood flow to the brain.
Dietary nitrate levels peak around 2 to 3 hours after consuming them, so if youre hoping that eating beets will improve your athletic performance, its best to eat them 2 to 3 hours before you need that extra boost.
