Green Apple Pie Smoothie

Spend a lot of time in the sun? Just another reason to throw some spinach into your blender. The leafy green is full of healthy skin vitaminsincluding vitamin C, which is needed to make oh-so-important collagen and keep your skin looking smooth and radiant. Another ingredient with skin super powers? Tofu! “The tofu makes smoothies extra creamy and thick, and adds loads of protein,” writes Oh My Veggies blogger, Kiersten Frase. That protein is what promotes elasticity and blocks damaging enzymesin other words, she says, it’s your skin’s best friend.

How Else Can It Help My Health

The chia seeds are great for getting a dose of gently absorbing soluble fibre and are also a source of omegas. Blending them ensures theyre not too tough to digest.

Banana also has soluble fibre which is much gentler on the stomach. Remember this type of fibre is quite easy to digest

Hemp Protein is a great source of non-dairy protein and omega 3 too. It can be a little tough to digest at first, so Id recommend starting at a teaspoon and then building up.

Almond Milk provides calcium.

Cashew Nut Butter is a good way to increase your intake of nuts and fat .

If you cant have nuts usually as theyre too solid, you might find that when theyre blended in nut butter, theyre fine.

You can use any decent blender or smoothie to make this drink. I personally use my Optimum Vacuum BLENDER which works particularly well for making batches of smoothies

Its sometimes traditionally made with a fish stock base, but its easy to find a plant-based version in stores or to make your own at home.

A 2014 study in the Journal of Medicinal Food confirmed that kimchi is high in probiotics, and is an excellent fuel for gut health. Other studies have shown that kimchi can help to fight cancer, obesity, aging, and constipation, while also contributing to your immune system, skin health, and brain health.

Eat kimchi in bowls, wraps, or as a seasoning on just about anything.

How The Foods You Eat Help Your Gut

When it comes to maintaining your microbiome at its healthiest level, nothing is more important than what you eat and drink.

The internal environment of your gut is dictated by what you put in your mouth so the foods you choose to eat are a crucial component of maintaining gut health.

The good news is, even a lifetime of bad eating is fixable at least as far as your microbes are concerned. Amazingly, your body can create a new microbiota in as little as 24 hours just by changing what you eat.

What you eat determines which bacteria thrive in your gut. And research tells us that the good gut bugs get stronger when fed colorful, plant-based foods.

A 2014 study in the journal The Proceedings of the Nutrition Society found that vegetables, grains, and beans fed a positive gut environment. But meat, , dairy, and eggs fed a negative gut environment.

Berry Flax Healthy Smoothie

Fiber works well to our digestive health for some reason. It helps to relieve constipation and improves digestion, which will further benefit your gut.

Berries, spinach, and flax seeds are a good source of fiber. You may use flax oil instead of the seeds by adding a little amount in the end. It has omega-3 content. The added peeled ginger root helps to settle the stomach. Put them together in a blender until the ingredients smoothen.

Add one and a half cups of dairy-free milk to serve a tastier and healthier smoothie. This prevents digestive problems such as lactose intolerant. It is safe to consume by all ages due to the nutritious ingredients added.

Cinnamon seems always present in every healthy smoothie recipe for gut health. Well, cinnamon has the power to ease digestion, helps break down glucose, and intestinal gas. These are enough reasons to consider adding cinnamon to your smoothie in taking care of the digestive system.

It is combined with other healthy ingredients, such as avocado, berries, and kale. They end up creamy because of the added non-dairy milk for safer consumption. Dairy-free milk is better for digestion than the other options.

What About Probiotic Supplements

Probiotics can be helpful in treating irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, colitis, acne, and eczema. And the strongest evidence for probiotics is related to their use in improving gut health and boosting immune function.

But probiotic supplements dont always work. In fact, a lot of people are taking probiotic supplements that are essentially a waste of money.

Heres the issue: the vast majority of probiotic bacteria are active and effective in the lower portions of the gastrointestinal tract. To get to there, though, these bacteria must survive your highly acidic stomach environment.

So how can you keep these probiotics intact? In other words, when should you take them?

Healthy Gut Vanilla Chai Smoothie

Keep your immune system strong by improving your gut health. This Healthy Gut Vanilla Chai Smoothie is an easy and delicious way to pack prebiotics and probiotics into your daily routine!

Gut health continues to be all the rage right now in the health and wellness world, and for good reason. A healthy microbiome in your gut can influence everything from digestion to immune health, so it’s important to think about your gut health.

This is not to be confused with “healing your gut,” which also happens to be the newest “it” thing with kooks trying to take your money. These people will try to convince you that you have leaky gut, then try to sell you their “gut healing” meal plan that eliminated grains, dairy, and just about anything else that can actually help with your gut health, while simultaneously making you believe you need to buy an $18 bottle of magical bone broth and other “healing” supplements. You most likely don’t have a leaky gut, ok? So you don’t need anyone’s gut-healing diet BS.

No, this post is about adding nutritious foods into your routine that can help maintain a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria in your intestines. Research has shown that keeping the bacteria in your gut happy can help to improve digestion and absorption of nutrients, synthesis of vitamins, immune health, GI health, and even help ward off certain chronic diseases, though much research still needs to be done.

Colon Cleanse And Liver Detox Smoothie Tips

    • You can make some changes in the ingredient list according to your preference. Like substitute pear for apple or add some celery root, turmeric powder or spirulina for extra benefits. I usually opt for this freeze dried organic spirulina. Increase the amount of ingredients gradually depending on your healing demands.
    • It is not recommended to mix other fruits with vegetables besides apples or pear because the fruits may ferment, cause gas and slow down digestion when mixed with other foods.
    • Add some fat as well, in order to help fat soluble vitamins to be absorbed by the body. For this Im using hemp oil or flax seed oil.
    • Using raw fruits and vegetables in the smoothie will achieve a maximum concentration of vitamins and minerals.
    • Beet juice may cause your stool and urine to turn red, this is due to the betalain red pigment. Actually you can use beets as a test and check your bowel transit time. It will tell how long it takes your food to be excreted, if its longer than 24-30 hours it means you are constipated. If the urine is too red its a sign that there is a problem with your kidneys filtering system.
    • If you truly desire to get better, try to make this colon and liver detox smoothie a daily morning routine, along with a clean eating diet and at least 30 minutes daily exercises. This will stimulate your endocrine system which plays a huge role in maintaining a healthy digestive system.

    Our 6 Best Healthy Smoothies

    5 Gut Healthy Smoothies

Searching for a healthy smoothie recipe? Check out these delicious recipes that are quick and easy to make for breakfast, as a snack or even dessert.

Smoothies are a go-to for many of us looking for something quick and healthy. Whether youre in need of a grab-and-go breakfast or a fuss-free snack, smoothies are a great option that can satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.

With that said, not all smoothies are created equally. Loading up on high-sugar fruit and juices or adding lots of sweeteners can result in a less than healthy offering. Instead, try to balance the different elements in your smoothie when aiming for something that will keep you fuller for longer. Mixing both fruits and vegetables can result in a higher fibre content, while still maintaining a sweet taste. Additionally, including items like nuts, milk and yogurt can boost the protein and healthy fat content, helping you to feel fuller throughout the day.

    Other Gut Healing Smoothie Ingredients

The rest of the ingredient list for the smoothie looks like this:

    • frozen riced cauliflower
    • ice

I call flax, chia and hemp my breakfast trifecta.

Seriously, I put this combo in everything I eat for breakfast whether its a gut healing smoothie like this, a bowl of oatmeal, millet porridge or even as a topping for pancakes and waffles.

The three seeds combined bring excellent healthy fats, protein and fiber to the table and I swear by them for satiety!

Psyllium husk fiber is another fiber source that I often use but feel free to omit that if you dont have it on hand.

Lets also talk about the banana in this smoothie. I prefer to use green bananas these days. Why? Because the greener the banana, the better source of prebiotics.

Earlier we talked about yogurt being a source of probiotics which are the bacteria themselves. Prebiotics are the food those good bacteria eat!

Green bananas are excellent sources of prebiotics and therefore good for the gut as well.

So while they bring a little bit of banana flavor to this smoothie, it wont be as intense as youre used to with a normal yellow or brown spotted banana. Save those for baking and use the green ones for this smoothie!

The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric should be old news by now. I talked about it at length in this Instant Pot coconut pork with turmeric rice in regards to the arthritis that runs in my family.

All the other ingredients are pretty self-explanatory or optional .

An Important Note About Eating Pickled Vegetables

Making pickled veggies, like sauerkraut and kimchi, part of your diet can be a healthy step. But pickled veggies should only be part of your vegetable consumption.

They are usually very salty. And people who make pickled vegetables a primary source of vegetables in their diet tend to get more sodium than is optimal, which can contribute to higher rates of certain forms of cancer.

So to be sure not to increase your risk of cancer, aim to make fresh, non-fermented vegetables a more significant part of your diet than pickled vegetables.

Think about eating small portions of fermented foods daily and using them as a source of salt, replacing table salt, soy sauce, or other salt sources with pickled vegetables.

Bananas and raspberries are important for better gut health because they contain fructans, a high-fiber natural carbohydrate that survives longer in the GI tract than other forms of carbs. They also contain fiber, which is what good gut bacteria feed on. Both of these foods help fight inflammation, too.
