  • Make the idea of smoothies exciting get your children involved in the process. Let them make smoothies with fruits of their choice, on the condition that they will drink it. Guide them to make sure that the smoothie they make is edible.

  • Carrot & Orange Smoothie

Next up is my favourite Carrot & Orange Smoothie. I used Waitroses Sunshine Smoothie Mix which has carrot, mango, kiwi and butternut squash.

The Best Reusable Pouches For Kids

I think what initially got my son to try this smoothie is that I served it in this reusable smoothie pouch.

I originally bought these pouches years ago, when my son was just a baby, and he would happily drink from them several times a day. He stopped using them a couple years ago, so I was only using them for my youngest, but I decided to give them another shot recently mostly to mask the color of the smoothie, and to mimic the sucking action that he uses with the store-bought applesauce pouches that he loves so much. To my surprise, it worked!

So, I guess the lesson here is never give up and keep trying new smoothie combinations. I hope the kids in your life love this one as much as mine do.

    A Smoothie Without Banana

I think what makes this smoothie really special is that its not sweetened with bananas. Sometimes you just want a smoothie without that noticeable banana flavor. Thats why I use dates in this smoothie, instead.

I love adding dates to smoothies, especially for my kids, because they are a surprising and have so much fiber that they wont impact blood sugar levels the way something with a similar sugar content might. If you happen to be pregnant or know someone who is, dates may also help you have a better labor and delivery experience.

Tips For Making And Serving Smoothies

Blending up and serving a smoothie to your kids is a great way to introduce them to eating healthier. However, if you want to inspire them to make this way of eating a habit, get them involved in the process.

Asking your kids to help out is a fun activity that gets them involved in the kitchen, says Rachel Berman, RD, and General Manager of Verywell. Kids can help pick out the ingredients and have fun watching them get blended together. You can even play a game with it: Can your kids guess what the main color of the smoothie will be? Berman says it can also be a good idea to repeatedly serve a little bit of the whole fruit/vegetable alongside the smoothie, like a few slices of strawberries, as a garnish that they will eventually want to eat on its own.

Lainey Younkin, MS, RD, LDN, dietitian at Lainey Younkin Nutrition and mom says getting your kids involved in making food means they are more likely to eat it, or in this case drink it. Smoothies are fun for kids because they can choose their favorite fruits and vegetables or choose which colors they want to mix togetherits like a mini science experiment, she adds. For a nutritious smoothie, she recommends protein, fiber, healthy fat and a healthy liquid like milk or water.

    Green Leafy Vegetables For Babies

    Smoothie Recipes: Green Smoothie Kids

Spinach, kale, swiss chard, collard greens, lettuce, beet greensso many varieties!

Green leafy vegetables contain a host of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber. They are particularly rich in vitamin K, folate, and some even contain calcium and iron. So of course, we want our children to eat them.

Except that bitter flavors are not those that they naturally gravitate towards, and oftentimes a ton of repeated exposures are needed before toddlers and kids learn to appreciate them.

And if you have a baby, research shows that early exposure to bitter flavors may help increase acceptance and shape food preferences that will carry into childhood and beyond.

So start early! Since introducing them to young babies can be a bit tricky, I show you exactly when and how to prepare them in my 3 month meal plan program. You will be able to incorporate so many different greens to your baby diet with ease and confidence.

Easy Green Smoothies For Babies And Kids

Smoothies are a busy, tired moms dream because they are so easy to whip up and an awesome way to get a host of nutrients into our growing kids in one sitting.

Theyre especially great when your child is sick, doesnt have much of an appetite, or is on-the-go a lot of times.

I always aim to add some type of vegetable alongside the fruits. And since greens wilt quickly, adding them to smoothies helps reduce waste.

You can also freeze them, which is what I always do whenever I purchase a big container of spinach or baby kale. Its SO convenient to have as you can easily add them to so many foods like, pancakes, muffins, cakes, and of course, these smoothies!

I do want to encourage you to continue offering the greens in their natural state. Otherwise, you may find yourself constantly having to sneak them into their foods, which can hurt their trust and make things harder for you.
