Blueberry Banana Smoothie Without Yogurt

When I have a smoothie, I like to make it with a lot of fruits and vegetables so that it is more nutritious. This next smoothie recipe is one that I often make that incorporates some additional fruits, vegetables, and nuts into the drink. If you want the smoothie to be frozen, add ice to the blender or simply freeze the fruit. This recipe calls for bananas and cashews, so the mixture will be quite thick when it is ready to drink. For this smoothie recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • ½ of a cup of blueberries
  • One large banana
  • Two tablespoons of cashews
  • One tablespoon of peanut butter
  • ¾ of a cup of water or fruit juice

To create this smoothie, you will need to start by preparing the ingredients. I like to have the banana pre-sliced before I freeze it, and I also chop the cashews before I add them to the blender so that the blender does not struggle to puree everything. A good blender will not have this issue, but if you have an older blender, the pre-chopping ingredient is an excellent habit to develop. Also, make sure that the fruit has been washed before it is added to the blender.

Once you are ready to create the smoothie, put the blueberries, the banana, the cauliflower, the cashews, and the peanut butter into the blender. Next, add in the fruit juice or the water. If your fruit is not frozen, you can add the ice at this point as well. Blend all of the ingredients together. If you want the smoothie to be a little sweeter, you can add in a touch of honey.

How To Make A Strawberry Smoothie Sweet

Adding sweeteners to a fruit smoothie isnt the smartest idea. Its already high in fruit sugar. The best way is to choose 1-2 high fructose fruits and use those as a sweetener. I chose a banana and it worked wonderfully. Since I froze it and added a ton of strawberries it didnt taste all banana-y. It tasted mostly like sweet strawberries. Awesome!

The Ultimate Banana Blueberry Smoothie For A Healthy Breakfast Treat

How To Make A Blueberry Smoothie Without Yogurt

This banana blueberry smoothie is adapted from my Wild Blue Smoothie recipe in Go Dairy Free: The Ultimate Guide and Cookbook. I originally shared this popular recipe back in 2006, and it has become a family favorite. Here are a few quick notes and tips about this recipe:

Go Green Dont worry, you wont taste or see the spinach! Spinach is a great beginner green for smoothies. It provides extra vitamins and minerals, but its the most tender and mildly-flavored green. You wont detect it beneath the bold fruit flavors and the purple hue of the dark berries masks the green color.

Start Slow The reason I add half the milk beverage first is to ensure the spinach fully blends in. If you add too much liquid, the leaves tend to just spin around even with some high power blenders! But a thicker base allows even wimpy blenders to pulverize those greens.

Choose Your Consistency As is, this is a drinkable smoothie. I give the option to add ice for a thicker blend, like the one pictured. If you want a really thick shake, you can use a frozen banana. But you might need to add a little more liquid.

Sweeten Only as Needed The sweetness of this banana blueberry smoothie will depend on the sweetness of your fruit. Usually, Im able to omit the sweetener or add just a small pinch of pure stevia extract. I just recommend that you add the sweetener last to avoid adding more than you need. Sometimes its surprisingly sweet as is!

How To Make Blueberry Banana Smoothie

    • First, make sure you have frozen blueberries and bananas on hand. As soon as my bananas start to ripen, I like to peel them, break them into small chunks and freeze them on a small baking sheet before storing them in a freezer bag.
    • When ready, simply add the blueberries, banana, nut butter, cinnamon, and almond milk to the blender cup and puree until smooth and creamy.

And thats it now youre ready to sip and enjoy!

Why Make A Blueberry Banana Smoothie

Blueberries are some of the healthiest fruits you can find. They are full of vitamins and contain antioxidants called anthocyanins, which are among the more potent antioxidants available from food. If I’d have to choose a single fruit for life, then blueberries would be my choice.

Bananas are one of the best prebiotics available. That means bananas are great for restoring the natural balance of probiotics in your digestive tract by helping the “good” bacteria. Bananas are also filled with nutrition and a great counterpart to blueberries.

Drinking a blueberry banana smoothie in the morning is a great way to start the day, and I love how simple it is to make one. There’s also no reason to skip it if you are lactose intolerant by adding oats instead of yogurt, you can still get a breakfast meal that should last you untill noon, and it becomes vegan if that matters for you.

The blender I use is from Nutribullet. I like it, but any blender will do just fine. Just be sure to not overfill it.

    Banana Cashew Smoothie Without Yogurt

    Serves: 2

    Preparation Time: 10 mins

Yum, yum. This combination of cashew and dates is divine. You get the fat from the cashews and additionally a massive boost of flavor. Whereas almonds and walnuts are quite popular nut ingredients for smoothies, the cashew can get looked over and really, it is the only nut that gives you a deep sweetness along with its nutty flavor. When you pair the cashew with the date and banana, you get that earthy vibe, that you can usually only get from baked goods. But this is so much better and healthier!

  • Place your cashews in the bottom of your blender.
  • Add the banana, then the dates and top off with the coconut milk and ice.
