Frozen bananas work best in this recipe. They will make the smoothie creamy and thick, just the way you want it.

But if you only have fresh bananas, you can still make the recipe Youâll simply need to add a handful of ice to your blender.

Note: If you have a regular blender then you may end up with little bits of ice in your smoothie, which is why using frozen bananas works the best.

Blending A Peanut Butter And Banana Smoothie

  • 1Assemble your materials. Banana and peanut butter are flavors that go very well together, and this recipe is perfect for those who love that flavor combo. Bananas should be cut into chunks and frozen first, though.
  • 2Combine your ingredients in the blender. Check to see that your blender is unplugged. Accidentally hitting a button while adding ingredients could make a big mess. After your ingredients are inside, attach the lid firmly on top, and plug in the blender.
  • Avoid over packing your blender. Doing so will put stress on its motor and cause it to burn out more easily.XResearch source
  • The addition of honey may make this smoothie too sweet for some people. You may want to add honey to taste, or skip it altogether.XResearch source
  • 3Use your blender to mix the smoothie and enjoy. Your blender may have several blending options. Press and hold the “Blend” button for short intervals until the mixture is smooth throughout. Transfer the smoothie to a cup and enjoy.
  • Overexerting the motor by running it for too long or trying to blend densely packed material can cause damage to your blender.XResearch source
  • 4Seal extra in a container and save it. You may have smoothie left over, or you may have made a double batch to save for later. If so, store your smoothie in an airtight container. Try to reduce the amount of air left in the container, too, as this can cause the nutrients to break down faster.
  • Tips For The Best Peanut Butter Smoothie

    • If you dont have almond milk frozen in an ice cube tray, simply use regular almond milk and freeze the entire smoothie in mason jars for later. This is great for easy smoothies throughout the week!
    • Feel free to use peanut butter powder instead of protein powder, if desired.
    • This is my personal favorite protein powder to use!
    • Honey can be omitted or replaced with a sweetener of choice.
    • The amount of rolled oats can be adjusted depending on how thick you want the smoothie to be!

    How To Thicken A Smoothie

I love a good smoothie that has a milkshake-like texture. Here are 3 tricks to make sure your smoothie turns out nice & thick:

  • Dont add too much liquid! If you start with too much liquid , you may end up having to add ice, or more frozen fruit to thicken it up again. Adding ice will dilute the flavor, and adding more fruit might make more servings than you were hoping for, so start with only 1/2 cup of liquid for a single serving.
  • Use frozen fruit. This recipe calls for frozen banana to make a thick smoothie, with an ice cream like texture. If you use a fresh banana, the smoothie will be much runnier in consistency, and youll need to use even less liquid in that case.
  • Add flax seeds. Flax seeds gel when you add them to water, so they help thicken this smoothie even more. They also add omega-3 fatty acids and extra fiber, to help keep you feeling full.
  • You can also add ice to help thicken a smoothie, but keep in mind that the ice will dilute the flavor. This peanut butter banana smoothie is so delicious as written, you wont want to change the taste!

    • Banana I always keep frozen bananas in my freezer for just this occasion. AND frozen is definitely best in this recipe is it results in a much creamier smoothie! • Milk Ive been on a big oat milk kick lately but really any kind works here. You could also swap the milk for water if desired.
    • Yogurt I like to use a plain, unflavored and unsweetened dairy-free yogurt but again, really anything works well here. You could even use a flavored yogurt as desired.
    • Peanut Butter MOST often, I use a simple runny peanut butter when making this banana smoothie. However, you could also leave out the natural peanut butter and instead use peanut butter powder. Itll still have the delicious peanut butter taste but with less fat and calories ).

So anytime I have bananas that are on their last leg, I make sure to peel, slice, and freeze them to use in smoothies and other desserts later.

    A Brief History Of Smoothies

In the US, smoothies were unknown till the 1930s, that was when the blender was invented and marketed. The advent of the smoothie is related to the invention of the blender as smoothies cannot be made without one.

While Americans discovered smoothies in the 20th century, Mediterranean and Eastern cultures had been enjoying this drink for hundreds of years, albeit in simpler forms.

Initially, the smoothie was a thick, creamy and chilled drink made from fruits and vegetables, aimed at beach-goers who drank them to cool down. But during the Flower Power and Hippie Culture of the 1960s, people shifted to vegan diets and plant-based food.

The modern smoothie is a lot different from the ones drunk in the 60s. They contain alternatives for anyone whos lactose intolerant and people with allergies. Modern smoothies also contain all kinds of super foods making them nutritious and healthy.
