How To Make A Blueberry Smoothie Bowl

This recipe is made with just two simple ingredients: frozen blueberries and frozen bananas. Simply blend the two together with a splash of water until thick and creamy. SWOON!

You can purchase pre-frozen blueberries in most supermarkets, but youll have to freeze your own bananas at home. I like to do this by slicing each banana into 8-10 chunks and freezing overnight in a freezer bag.

Blending smoothie bowls can require some patience but it is worth it for the final result! I recommend slowly adding water as needed to achieve a thick texture you dont want to add too much liquid or the smoothie will be too runny.

Best Milk Substitute For Smoothies:

Milk and water are not the only liquids you can use as the liquid base of a smoothie there are so many other options that will result in an excellent smoothie.

Vanilla Ice Cream Banana Smoothie

1. To prepare the materials, it is best to get them all in the first step. Otherwise, if you look for this or that later, there will be problems such as bananas will oxidize and ice cream will melt.

2. Put two and a half bananas into the blender and add 1 scoop of ice cream. Add milk and stir until there are no lumps.

3. Put 2 scoops of ice cream in the bottom of the cup, pour the milkshake in the blender into the cup, dont fill it up. Leave a space of about 10 cm.

4. Add 5 scoops of fruit oatmeal and sprinkle in evenly. Put the remaining half of the sliced banana on top.

5. Finished, haha, lets eat!

Tips:

My three bananas are made for two cups. If one cup is used, the amount of bananas and milk will be halved. I personally like a lot of oatmeal and banana slices, which taste delicious.

Finding And Using Substitutions

  • 1Know that you can work with an existing recipe. You might have a recipe already that you really like, but can’t use it because you either don’t have the ingredients or you are allergic to them. Fortunately, there are a few ways you can tweak an existing recipe to work for you. This section will show you how to do that.
  • You can also create your own custom smoothie using this section.
  • 2Substitute yogurt for milk and/or ice. If you don’t have milk at home, you can omit the ice and use yogurt instead. If the recipe calls for frozen fruit, use non-frozen fruit instead, or your smoothie will be too thick.
  • 3Use another type of milk if you are allergic to cows milk. There are all sorts of milk available that can work in a smoothie, including: almond, coconut, rice, and soy. Some stores even sell lactose-free cow’s milk.
  • 4Use another liquid instead of milk. Not all smoothies have to be creamy. If you don’t like the flavor of almond or coconut milk, you can always use another type of liquid instead. Here are some options:
  • Water or carbonated water
  • 5Try using frozen fruit instead of ice. By using frozen fruit instead of ice, you are flavoring your smoothie and thickening it. You can freeze fruit yourself at home, or buy it frozen from the freezer section of a supermarket. Here are some types of frozen fruit you can use:XResearch source

  • Make A Yogurt Smoothie

Yogurts that are made from plant-based food such as beans and nuts are healthier than fruits in the sense that they are rich in protein and calcium, which are macronutrients necessary for maintaining a sound healthy body.

For less than a hundred calories, plant-based yogurts are relatively lower than most fruits in terms of calorie content.

Up to 10% of the recommended daily allowance of calcium can be obtained from soy-based yogurt, and approximately 3 grams of protein per 100 grams serving can be accumulated as well.

Almond yogurt, on the other hand, is usually fortified to contain additional calcium and higher protein content.

Coconut yogurt, while low in protein, is also low in sugar which can help you avoid dangerous levels of blood glucose.

Additionally, though fruits seldom contain healthy fats, plant-based yogurts have them in sufficient amounts to contribute to a sustainable diet.

Since most yogurts are dense, they can lend creaminess and thickness to the smoothies, which is ideal for preventing a watered-down version of the beverage.

So instead of going for water, opt for 1 cup of any of the following yogurts to add into your smoothie.

Grab your favorite milk substitute and add a very small amount, 1-2 tablespoons at a time. Continue blending on low then slowly increase to medium, using your tamper OR stopping to scrape down the sides of the blender jar, as needed, to ensure all the fruit gets blended..

    Add Almond Milk & Honey

Next, add 3 TBS almond milk . I know it seems like a small amount, but it should be enough to make the perfect smoothie bowl. The small amount of liquid is what sets smoothies and smoothie bowls apart!

Add 1-2 TBS honey depending on your desired sweetness level. For a vegan version use maple syrup. You could omit the sweetener all together, but I find this smoothie bowl recipe tastes the best with a little extra sweetness!

    What Is A Smoothie Bowl

Smoothie bowls are smoothies taken to the next level! Theyre basically a big, thick and creamy smoothie in a bowl with lots of toppings that you eat with a spoon like ice cream! Basically, its just like ice cream and a smoothie had a baby.

    What Milk To Use

How to make the THICKEST smoothie bowl

You have lots of options when it comes to the milk used in this recipe. We used standard whole milk, however you could make this a vegan smoothie by using a plant based milk like almond milk, cashew or oat milk and replacing the honey with maple syrup.

To make this smoothie creamier and add some extra flavour, swap 50ml of the milk for coconut milk. This will really help to thicken the smoothie too.

You could use water instead of milk, however I wouldnt recommend doing that because it would make it really thin and wont be spoonable.

How To Make Smoothies Without Yogurt

Figuring out how to make smoothies without yogurt is easy as long as youve got a few replacement ingredients on hand. First off, one of the king substitutes for yogurt in smoothies has to be coconut milk. It is full of fat and gives you that nice creamy texture that you get from typical yogurt smoothies. Also, it gives you a nice little undertone of coconut and sweetness so you dont need to add extra sugar.

You can also stock up on nut milks like almond milk, cashew milk, and hazelnut milk. Additionally, for people who can handle soy, you can also utilize soy milk. Although the milks are thinner in consistency than yogurt, you still get that creaminess when you whip them up with other ingredients. Additionally, using nut butter will give you amazing flavors, healthy fats, and protein as well as that super creaminess.

And finally lets not forget the star ingredients of our smoothies: fruits and veggies. But all fruits and veggies are not created equally when it comes to consistency. Some have a lot more water while others give you more starches that can result in a creamy consistency when they are mixed up in a blender. Avocadoes are fantastic for smoothies due to their fat content and texture. Additionally, frozen bananas, zucchini, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes can also be added to smoothie recipes without yogurt to get that silky texture you crave.

Topping Fails: Here Are A Few Tips For Success With Smoothie Bowl Toppings

Adding toppings to your smoothie bowl is half the fun. Avoid these common mistakes.

Soggy granola: Add granola last. Also, work to get a thicker smoothie bowl base. That will keep the granola from becoming submerged.

Crunchy chia seeds: Add these first. Let the seeds absorb a bit of the smoothie bowl base.

Sandy flaxseeds: Add them to the smoothie bowl base the blend. Do not sprinkle them on top like you would with chia seeds.

Dry oats: Add them to the blend like you would with flaxseeds. If you want to sprinkle oats on top, add them first like you would with the chia seeds so they absorb a bit of the smoothie bowl base.

Giant pieces of fruit: Slice them! Whole strawberries, for example, make for unpleasant smoothie bowl bites. Slice them!

So these were tips for adding toppings to your smoothie bowl for optimal flavor and consistency. Now, lets discuss how to make your smoothie bowls look as delicious as they should taste.

Tips For Making Thick And Creamy Smoothie Bowls

The difference between a smoothie and a smoothie bowl is that the first one is drinkable and served in a glass, while the second is meant to be eaten with a spoon. In other words smoothie bowls are VERY thick smoothies. Think soft serve ice-cream consistency!

If youve ever tried making a smoothie bowl but ended up with a sad soupy smoothie in a bowl, follow my tips below.

  • Go easy on the liquid. This recipe calls for ½ cup of plant milk which is just enough to help your blender cut through frozen fruit. If it looks like your blender is stuck, dont be tempted to add more milk. Just turn the engine off, stir the contents and keep blending. Repeat as needed. Only add more liquid if absolutely necessary, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  • Start with plant milk. It will help with the blending process.
  • Use frozen fruit . I dont ever use fresh fruit in my smoothie bowls because they wont give you the super thick, ice-cream like consistency.
  • Use a good blender. As I mentioned before, I love my Vitamix for making smoothie bowls but if you dont have a super powerful blender, there are some more economical options that will also work great !
  • Be patient. Remember my note about not adding extra liquid? This is super important with smoothie bowls you may need to stop the blender and move things around a couple times but eventually the smoothie bowl will become creamy and velvety!
  • The Best Part = Toppings

Dairy Free Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl â Milk Free Mom

Okay, this is the fun part and the options are truly endless here! Get creative with your smoothie bowl toppings. Here are some of my go-to toppings:

    • banana banana lovers, add banana slices on top!
    • kiwi kiwi slices pair perfectly on top of this bowl. Fresh mango, peaches or really any fresh fruit would also be delicious!
    • berries I like using a combination of fresh raspberries, strawberries and/or blueberries, but any combo of fresh berries work!
    • granola want to add some texture to your smoothie bowl? Add crunchy granola on top! Try my hemp granola, almond coconut granola or this grain free granola.
    • chia seeds add in healthy fats, fiber and texture with more chia seeds on top. Flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds or hemp seeds would be a good substitute.
    • shredded coconut I love adding shredded coconut or toasted coconut for added sweetness and crunch!
    • nuts nuts add the perfect amount of crunch to smoothie bowls. I prefer walnuts, cashews or almonds.
