Tips To Make The Best Coconut Milk Smoothie
- Coconut chunks can be found in the freezer aisle where other frozen fruits are located. If you cant find any, you can use fresh coconut or shredded coconut flakes.
- As we are using actual coconut in the smoothie, you dont need to use a specific kind of coconut milk. Canned, carton, or even fresh coconut milk can all be used.
- The amount of sweetener is just a guide. Feel free to add more if you prefer a sweeter smoothie.
- For the ultimate rich smoothie, substitute half the coconut milk with heavy cream.

What Is A Pineapple Coconut Smoothie Made Of
- Pineapple: This juicy fruit is loaded with health benefits. Its a great source of vitamin C, antioxidants, and bromelain to aid digestion.
- Coconut yogurt: This dairy-free yogurt gives the smoothie a creamy consistency. For the best results, be sure to use a brand that you already know and love.
- Coconut milk: For a rich coconut flavor, I suggest using coconut milk as the liquid in this smoothie recipe. If you dont have any on hand, you can use almond milk but it will create a milder flavor.
- Maple syrup: If you want to sweeten this smoothie, I recommend adding a spoonful of real maple syrup. Alternatively, you can use medjool dates, agave nectar, honey, or coconut nectar.
- Vanilla: Vanilla extract is a secret ingredient you wont commonly find in smoothies. However, I find it to pair really well with pineapple and coconut.
- Lemon juice: A small dash of lemon juice brings a sharp, tangy flavor that contrasts the other sweet ingredients.
What Is In The Coconut Cloud Smoothie
When you go to Erewhon theres a sign that tells you exactly what is in the coconut cloud smoothie:
- MALK vanilla almond milk. They use MALK brand vanilla almond milk at Erewhon but you can use any almond milk you like.
- Coconut cream. Thick coconut cream is key here, placing it in the fridge overnight helps it whip up thick and creamy. Make sure you get coconut cream, not coconut milk.
- Avocado. Frozen avocado adds healthy fats and creaminess.
- Almond butter. Almond butter adds a hint of nuttiness and protein.
- Banana. Essential in all smoothies to add sweetness and heft. Make sure you freeze your banana!

Regular Rum Vs Coconut Rum
Tell me youre in The Bahamas without telling me youre in The Bahamas. One way to do it is rum, the official drink of the soulful Caribbean country. After all, most of the worlds rum is produced in the Caribbean and Latin America, and The Bahamas is no exception.
In fact, rum has shaped The Bahamas just as much as The Bahamas has shaped rum. Sailors introduced the drink to colonial America. Then in the late 1600s, during The Golden Age of Piracy, The Bahamas became the hotbed of pirate activity, and pirates favored rum. Over time, pirates added lemon to watered-down rum.
Today, both rum and piracy are celebrated as part of The Bahamas rich history. Pirate Republic Brewing, a bar in Nassau, is a go-to place for rum and authentic pirate experience. Designed like a modern pirate ship, The Pirate Republic pays homage to the aspect of The Bahamas as a former pirate sanctuary of 30 years. You can try the Black Beerd Stout . Other favorites include the iconic Island Pirate Ale and Gold & Haze of Piracy .
Expert Tip: Play With Colors
Generally, when we make smoothies, we aim to make the mix homogenous. However, for the Bahama Mama Smoothie, some baristas love to play with colors, layering fruits in a certain way and blending delicately so that strawberries stay primarily at the bottom and the pineapples and coconut on top, creating a rainbow-like drink.

What Do I Need For Your Coconut Pineapple Smoothie Recipe
You only need three, maybe four, ingredients, and you may already have them all! Youll need:
- Frozen bananas. Bananas add a creamy sweetness to this smoothie, and because they are frozen, they also chill and thicken the drink.
- Pineapple. You cant have a pineapple smoothie without pineapple! Canned or fresh pineapple will both work.
- Coconut milk. The stuff from the can is what you want hereyou can often find it with the international foods or baking ingredients.
- Honey or maple syrup. If your fruit is really sweet, you may be able to skip this one.
Store And Freeze Coconut Smoothie
While the best and healthiest option is to drink your coconut smoothie immediately, you do have the option of storing it for a while.
If you keep the smoothie in the fridge overnight, you may notice a difference in the flavors and texture. The ice will melt, giving the drink a less pronounced coconut flavor.
To properly store the coconut smoothie, we recommend keeping it covered or in a sealed container in the freezer, where it should be good for up to 2 months. When ready to use, re-blend it until smooth.
If you know youre going to be pressed for time, another alternative is to prepare the dry ingredients in advance and freeze them immediately in baggies. When youre ready, combine the frozen ingredients with the coconut water and milk, blend it up, and enjoy your smoothie.

How To Know If Coconut Milk Is Bad
Coconut milk, like all non-dairy milk products, can go rancid. Once opened, any type of coconut milk will begin to spoil.
When coconut milk goes bad, there are several significant indications. Mold is a prominent indicator of spoilage. If the coconut milk appears to have any mold or a film on the surface, it should not be consumed.
Similarly, if the milk becomes lumpy, darkens in color, or begins to curdle, it is past its expiration date and should be thrown away.
Another good indicator of spoilage is the smell. If the milk smells sour or rancid, just toss it.
Thick coconut milk will naturally separate, so that is not an indication that it has spoiled. Frequently, the fat rises to the top of the can while the more watery liquid sinks. Simply shake the unopened can or stir an opened one before using the coconut milk.

Making Homemade Coconut Milk
Once again, it can be difficult to find milk that’s free of additives, stabilizers, and gums to use in recipes that call for coconut milk. Yet, never fear! Your blender’s here! All you need to make this homemade version is:
- 1 cup dried unsweetened coconut
- 3 cups boiling filtered water
- Pinch of sea salt
- High speed blender
- Cheesecloth, tea towel, or nut milk bag
Now let’s get milking!
Cream is the best sort of homemade coconut milk, don’t you agree?
2. Blend. The #1 appliance in my kitchen is my blender. In addition to using it for my daily green smoothie, I use it for homemade hummus, pancakes and yep, even milk from plants.
A high speed blender will break apart coconut flakes the best, and gets you as many nutrients possible. I recommend checking out my blender guide if your blender isn’t up to the challenge.
3. Strain your homemade coconut milk like a pro…Having a two-layered strainer will get you the creamiest results. To do this, I use a mesh strainer and a nut milk bag. Just place a strainer over a bowl and line with cheesecloth or a nut milk bag. Gather the cloth at the top, twist and gently squeeze as much milk from the solids as possible. The remaining coconut pulp should be fairly dry.
