  • You can easily freeze your own fresh fruit and store it so you can enjoy a healthy smoothie bowl whenever you fancy!
  • Depending on the sweetness of the fruit and your taste you may want to sweeten the smoothie. Honey or maple syrup are great natural sweeteners.
  • Store any leftovers in a mason jar with a lid. They will last for 24 hours, but I recommend consuming them immediately after making. If the smoothie settles while in the fridge, just use a fork to mix everything together again.

  • I make my smoothies in my Vitamix. It has a frozen button so it does all the work for me until the ingredients are well blended.

    What Is A Smoothie Bowl

A smoothie bowl is very much like a smoothie but with three main differences.

One Its much thicker than a smoothie. The consistency is more like soft serve or even ice cream, depending on how you prefer it OR the capabilities of your blender . Well share a few tips on how to thicken a smoothie bowl in a bit.

Two Its loaded with as many toppings as you want it to be or just one. You have so many choices! Well share some of the best toppings for a smoothie bowl with you, too.

    How To Make It Thicker

Making a smoothie bowl is all about the texture! You want a thick consistency that’s smooth and spoon-able, but not too thick so you can actually blend it.

    To make it thicker:

    • Use less milk than when making a smoothie
    • Use only frozen fruits

But also, reaching the perfect texture starts with the way you measure the ingredients. Frozen fruits are actually hard to measure, simply because their solid shape makes it harder to fill the cup properly. I recommend to slice the frozen fruits before measuring.

Also, the slushy thick mixture tends to stick to the sides of the blender. Instead of adding extra milk to make it more blend-able, try to take more breaks to stir in and scrape the walls using a spatula and blend again. I’ll often take about 5-10 breaks when making a smoothie bowl, even though I have a Vitamix. This allows me not to end up with a slurry kind of smoothie bowl.

And if you feel like it really needs more liquid, then add 1 tablespoon at the time, no more!

Then add starchy carbohydrates such as fruits, honey, or maple syrup for sweetness. . If youre looking for a smoothie lower in sugar, then use more vegetables.

    Thick Smoothie Bowl Recipe

I use the same basic recipe for all of my smoothie bowls, simply varying the frozen fruit, type of fruit juice, and the toppings to change things up. Its a virtually foolproof base of 5 simple ingredients that allows you to experiment and have fun with your food.

Lets start with the juice I always look for 100% juice, which is what R.W. Knudsen Family provides in their line of unsweetened single fruit juices. With varieties like Just Cranberry , Just Pomegranate, and Just Tart Cherry, you know youre getting the maximum taste for each juice.

R.W. Knudsen uses ingredients that are all natural, and each 8-oz. is a full serving of fruit. So I feel good about using it in my smoothies and smoothie bowls AND serving it to my kids! Find it in the juice aisle at Walmart.

R.W. Knudsen prides themselves on their all natural ingredients. What exactly does that mean? Well, when were talking about cranberries, it means that small farms, like Peters Cranberries in Sixes, Oregon, are water harvesting their cranberries just like theyve always been.

After harvest, their ripe, flavorful fruit is processed into high quality, delicious products, like my favorite Just Cranberry Juice!

    Banana Berry Smoothie Bowls

Berries are a great addition to smoothies! The bananas provide a super creamy base, and you can customize this with whatever frozen berries you have on hand or love the most.

Make this a strawberry banana smoothie bowl by using all frozen strawberries instead of a mix of berries.

Step 1: Add the frozen fruit and coconut milk into a food processor bowl. This can also be done in a high speed blender with a tamper stick, but I find it quicker in a food processor.

Step 2: Process until all the fruit is broken down into a soft serve ice cream consistency.

Step 3: Top with your favorite smoothie bowl toppings.
