A Good Yogurt And Great For You

Blueberry Probiotic Smoothie Recipe

I really like the Stonyfield Farm Organic yogurt. It tastes good, goes down smooth and is a great organic product. It is creamy and yummy like yogurt should be. The quart size is a great size to have on hand. I love that it is organic. I feel good knowing that the milk came from a place that treated it right and that it is made of organic ingredients. It makes me feel so much better eating stuff that is made the way it should be. In a natural process. The only reason that I don’t buy this a lot more is the price. It is a little more pricey than other organic yogurts out there. You can sometimes find this on sale though. It is worth the money to know that you are getting a good organic product though. I would buy this again and recommend it to other yogurt lovers out there. It really does taste good and you can get it in a small variety of different kinds. I like vanilla. Give it a shot!

Whats Missing From Many Popular Yogurts

Probiotics TheLive and Active Cultures seal on a container of yogurt does not guarantee that any probiotics are actually in the yogurt by the time you eat it it only verifies they were there when it was manufactured. The addition of artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose may compound this problem because theyve been shown to be antimicrobials that also have the ability to kill beneficial bacteria in the gut, which warrants more research. . Cornucopia sent yogurt samples to the University of Nebraska Lincolns Food Processing Center to test for probiotic content, and what they found was astonishing. Several yogurts were found to have less than the required 100 million cultures per gram including Chobani, Walmart Great Value, Yoplait Go-Gurt, LaLa Cult, and Dannon Danimals Smoothies.

Beneficial Fat Cornucopia commissioned the University of Nebraskas lab to study the nutritional profile of several yogurts, specifically for the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids and the levels of beneficial fats such as conjugated linoleic acid . They found that organic yogurt contained better fat ratios and way more CLA than conventional yogurt. Chobani yogurt came out the worst, compared with Cedar Summit Farms organic yogurt coming out on top with nearly 20 times more CLA than Chobani.

Always Choose Organic Yogurt

Last month I broke down for you all the big reasons to only choose organic dairy products, including yogurt, which is corroborated in Cornucopias report. When you choose organic, you avoid:

  • Genetically Modified Ingredients Most sweeteners in yogurt come from GMOs. Whenever you see high fructose corn syrup, fructose, or sugar on the ingredient list its a pretty safe bet that its derived from GMO corn or GMO beet sugar.
  • Growth Hormone Drugs Banned in over 30 countries, linked to cancer, and may increase the incidence of painful mastitis in cows .
  • Herbicides & Pesticides Residues from chemical herbicides and pesticides end up in our food and water, and also contaminate the food of dairy cows. Its possible that these chemicals are passing through to their milk, which have been linked to kidney disease and other diseases in humans.
  • Is It Healthy To Have A Smoothie Every Day For Breakfast

    Stonyfield Organic Low

That depends on what’s in it. “As long as your smoothie contains some protein and isnt loaded with sugar, it can be a convenient and healthy breakfast option that allows you to pack in a variety of nutrient-dense foods,” says Stefani Sassos, deputy director of the Good Housekeeping Institute Nutrition Lab. So keep the advice above about sugar in mind, and if you’re dying to try out a smoothie recipe that doesn’t have protein, you can still add one of the protein boosts above, or even a spoonful of a good-quality protein powder.

You don’t have to have a smoothie daily, of course. But as long as you’re keeping an eye on your total sugar content for the day, and being reasonable on the serving size of your smoothies, there’s no reason not to have one each day. Remember that even if you’re not adding sugar to your smoothie, the sugar fruit and dairy both add to your daily sugar intake, as do add-ins like maple syrup.

What Are The Healthiest Things To Put In A Smoothie

First, think nutrient- and vitamin-rich produce. Smoothies are a great way to make use of leftover fresh fruit or to sneak in some extra superfoods that you wouldn’t normally eat on their own. Think beyond the classic add-ins and consider dark greens like spinach, a squeeze of a citrus fruit, spices like ginger and turmeric, herbs like fresh basil or mint, and if your blender is strong enough, veggies like carrots and beets. Then add some protein, like a spoonful of nut butter or a handful of walnuts, or some plain Greek yogurt, for an energy boost that will keep you going until lunch. Plant-based milks, unsweetened, are a great base, and you can add in a probiotic burst with a healthy pour of kefir.

How To Choose The Best Yogurt:

    3-Minute Yogurt Bowl Dessert Recipe

The only kind of yogurt I recommend is plain organic yogurt , which you can sweeten yourself with fresh fruit, raw honey or maple syrup. Cornucopia built a great reference, a Yogurt Buyers Guide, which rates 114 yogurt brands from best to worst based on these criteria:

    • Organic vs. Conventional
    • Milk Protein Concentrate

They ultimately recommend minimally processed organic brands that are either sometimes grass-fed or 100% grass-fed. These include: Traders Point Creamery, Maple Hill Creamery, Nancys, Organic Valley, Kalona, Wallaby Organic, and Clover Stornetta, Stonyfield, and regional brands such as Butterworks Farm, Seven Stars, Straus, Hawthorne Valley Farm, and Cedar Summit. By doing so, we support organic farmers, protect our environment, encourage humane treatment of animals, and ensure good health for ourselves and our families.

Cornucopia also conducted a cost analysis and found that many of the organic yogurts that they recommend are cheaper than conventional over-processed yogurts Yeah! You can read Cornucopias complete report, Culture Wars: How the Food Giants Turned Yogurt, a Health Food, into Junk Food here.

Because I know many of you might ask, my personal favorite is Traders Point Creamery , I love that it comes in a glass jar and not plastic and is made from cows fed a 100% organic grass-fed diet.

    What Do I Love Most

The smoothies contain no artificial sweeteners. I select Stonyfield because I know, with their commitment to organic, that there wont be any junk in their products. With 5 live active yogurt cultures and no pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, or GMOs, these do not disappoint.

They range 180-200 calories per bottle , a decent start to the day, containing as little as 26g carbohydrates and as much as 32g carbohydrates . If you are one who is careful about balancing carbs with protein , these smoothies would come in at a perfect balance, with the protein meeting or exceeding half as many grams as carbs. Sugars are 15g-19g, with sugar alcohol at 10g across the board. In other words, not bad, all things considered. Fruit smoothies come in a lot higher on the sugars and definitely do not pack a protein punch like this.

You should be able to find Stonyfields OP Organic Protein Smoothies in grocery stores soon. But if youre having trouble, use their store locator.

Rich And Creamy And Just Tastes Good

I am not one of those people who purchases all organic food when I do my groccery shopping. I honestly don’t purchase organic yogurt very frequently at all, but on a few occasions I have found it on reduced price/managers special before it reaches its sell by date and so it has been cheaper than the regular yogurt and so I decided to given it a try.) As for organic yogurt, I have been really impressed with the taste of Stonyfields yogurt. It is rich and creamy and just tastes good. I really don’t notice any taste difference between normal yogurt and the Stonyfield organic yogurt. I also feel like it is a good company that cares about the environment and trying to do good for the planet. I have only seen the quart size containers of yogurt instead of the individual serving sizes and so I feel that they don’t want to add more pollution/waste to the environment by using so much plastic in the packaging of their products.

This Yogurt Is Delicious And Organic

This has to be one of the best yogurts I have eaten. I’ve been on a health kick and trying to get good pro and prebiotics in my system and yogurt is a winner. The Stoneyfield yogurt is amazing. The fruit in this always tastes so tart and sweet at the same time, the yogurt is always a creamy and smooth consistency, and it’s always fresh and organic so I know I’m putting good stuff in. The yogurt lasts several weeks, even without harmful chemicals to keep it preserved so I don’t have to worry about tossing it out. This yogurt even smells good.Flavor/TasteThe taste of this yogurt is smooth and creamy. The fruit has a tart but pleasantly sweet taste. I can’t help but enjoy this. The yogurt is so good I can eat it plain or I can put it in a smoothie to get a little something extra.VarietyI can usually find this in plain, vanilla, strawberry, and blueberry at my local store. They occasionally have other flavors and I think they have a great choice selection to suite my needs.ConsistencyThe consistency is amazing. It is so smooth and creamy. Even the fruit varieties seem to be smooth and silky.ConvenienceThese are super convenient. They already have fruit in them if I buy them in strawberry and all I have to do is pop the top off and enjoy.

Breakfast Who Has Time For That

Being a mom who works full-time outside the home brings its own set of challenges. Getting the kids ready for school and myself out the doorall while suffering through not being a morning personmeans Im often waiting until I get to work to eat breakfast. Doing so guarantees a long, drawn-out repast, as workof course!beckons and I cant always eat right away. The next thing I know, its 11 AM and I still havent finished the most important meal of the day. Not a great way to start things off.

Stonyfield recently sent me some of their new OP Organic Protein Smoothies to try out, and Im finding them to be indispensable for these crazy kinds of mornings! Just grab and get in the car. On the 40-minute drive in, I can power myself with 15 grams of protein and know that I am truly ready to conquer the day! So much better than my usual patchwork attempt at an acceptable breakfast!

    Ginger Kale Smoothie Recipe

A Stonyfield Organic Protein Smoothie is a fun way to start the day. Ive got the the scoop on this new product the good and bad.I recently joined the Stonyfield Clean Plate Club! My first assignment as part of this great group is to sample the new Stonyfield Organic Protein Smoothie and tell you all about it. How fitting since I just finished my simple smoothie series!

If youve been around here long you know that my newest little one is very sensitive to dairy. Which means I couldnt try the OP Smoothies myself.

But my family sure has been enjoying them!

My daughter says they taste like milkshakes. She really loved the chocolate.

My son can only have limited dairy, so I let him try a very small amount of the strawberry smoothie. In his three year-old description: Yum! It tastes like strawberry. He was sad when I told him he couldnt have any more.

My husband says they are easy to drink and not too sweet. The not too sweet part is a big bonus for my family! Normally any kind of store bought yogurt tastes sickeningly sweet to us.

My first choice when it comes to smoothies is always to make them myself. Put raw milk, coconut milk and/or yogurt, strawberries and a bit of honey in a blender. In two minutes youve got a nutritious smoothie with no strange ingredients.
