Im going to admit, ever since spring started Ive been trying to lose a few pounds. One of my all time favorite fun and easy ways to shed a few pounds during the summer is to drink a glass of refreshing smoothie every day either for breakfast or dinner.

Smoothies fill you up for a long time and when made without sugars or added sweeteners can be a great way to get an intake of fruits and vegetables.

This strawberry banana smoothie is made with just 3 ingredients. Strawberries, bananas, and milk or water. You just toss all the ingredients in the blender for a few seconds until its nice and creamy and your done. It really doesnt get much easier than this!

You can also customize it by adding some berries or even some kale for an even healthier smoothie.

To Make This Strawberry Banana Smoothie You Will Need:

  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1/4 cup whole milk

Ice is key to a thick smoothie and so is frozen fruit, i.e. bananas or strawberries, just keep them frozen for an extra thick drink! Either way, add 1 cup ice or frozen fruit to your blender.

After the ice, add the 6 ounces vanilla yogurt.

To that add 1/2 tablespoon honey.

A pinch of ground cinnamon.

Next add in 1 chopped banana.

And then 1 cup diced strawberries.

Lastly, pour in 1/4 milk.

Secure the lid to your blender and blend it until smooth!

Pour into glasses.

    How To Make A Perfect Strawberry Banana Smoothie

    Making a perfect smoothie is all about getting the right ratio. Not so thick that you cant actually blend the smoothie, and not so thin that it drinks more like milk that tastes like fruit than a smoothie.

    The ratio should be just right for this easy smoothie recipe, but the nice thing about it is that its easy to adjust if youd like it a little thinner, or a little thicker.

    To make it thicker you can do 2 things:

  • Use a frozen banana instead of a fresh banana.
  • Add more frozen strawberries or a bit of ice and blend again until you reach your desired consistency!
  • To make it thinner all you have to do is add a bit more liquid until its thin enough for the perfect sip.

    I dont recommend making your smoothie ahead of time. Smoothies melt as they sit in the fridge and their consistency isnt the same if re-frozen.

    When freezing bananas, make sure you peel them prior to freezing so that you can easily add them to a smoothie later. Its nearly impossible to get the peel off after freezing. I usually freeze my bananas whole and then break them in half before adding them, as my Vitamix can break them down easily.

    Use only frozen fruit. Good news for those of you that dont like bananas! You can use so many different frozen fruits instead of bananas in smoothie bowls.

    Dont add too much liquid. It may take longer to blend, but dont give in and add more milk! Extra liquid will give you a flat and watery smoothie bowl.

    Dont over blend your smoothie bowl. Want to know what makes a strawberry smoothie bowl creamy? Not blending too much. Stop blending once there are no frozen chunks of fruit remaining.

    Serve in a coconut bowl! For some reason, smoothie bowls do not melt as fast when they are served in a coconut bowl rather than a glass or porcelain bowl.

    Why This Recipe Works

    This strawberry smoothie recipe is definitely one of my favorites, especially during the warmer months. Refreshing smoothies with strawberries are rich, creamy and bursting with the bright flavor of fresh strawberries.

    I also add a banana to make a thick and milkshake-like consistency. Plus it adds another pop of healthy sweetness to the drink that is great to get your morning going!

    When making a smoothie with bananas, I prefer to use coconut milk or almond milk. Using plant-based milks makes this a tasty vegan smoothie recipe, and is a bit easier on your stomach.

    I have read that according to ayurveda, eating certain fruits and dairy milk together can create all kinds of digestion problems. For instance, banana and dairy tend to cause gut issues. However, I always find that beverages made with coconut milk or almond milk are lighter and easy to digest.

    I have not used any sweetener in this 3 ingredient smoothie recipe, but you can add some sweetener if your strawberries arent quite ripe or you prefer a sweeter smoothie.
