How Many Calories Are In A Glass Of Banana Smoothie

Banana smoothies are good for weight loss, only if theyre low in calories. Caloric deficit is key for weight loss. We lose weight only when we consume fewer calories than we burn.

Therefore, try to prepare banana smoothies with fewer than 200 calories. Only athletes or people who consume more than 2,000 calories a day could drink banana smoothies with more calories and still lose weight!

Banana smoothies with less than 3-4 ingredients tend to have the fewest calories. Its a common mistake to add too many ingredients, loading banana smoothies with many unnecessary calories, fats, and sugars.

First, a banana has between 90 and 135 calories, depending on the size and the ripeness stage. Keep in mind that overripe bananas are much richer in sugars than green bananas.

Other fattening foods that are common ingredients in smoothies are peanut butter, cows milk, seeds, and nuts. There is no reason to avoid them altogether. You should add only one of them, though.

Furthermore, avoid adding fruit juices, if you want to limit the calorie content of the smoothie. Even homemade fresh-squeezed fruit juices are particularly high in sugars and calories.

Prefer whole fruits instead. Whole fruits dont spike blood sugar as much as fruits juices because theyre pretty rich in fiber. Fiber in fruits controls appetite as well!

Common fiber-rich fruits used in many smoothie recipes are apple, avocado, strawberry, pineapple, and orange.

  • The Vitamix personal series is great for making just one or two smoothies at a time
  • So is the Magic Bullet or Nutri Bullet the only hang up here is that I find I have to replace these models once every couple years or so because the motor eventually burns out
  • The Vitamix Ascent series is my fave though its self-cleaning so you arent left with a ton of mess and its perfect for if youre prepping 3-4 smoothies at a time. It can tear through anything to make the smoothest smoothie, even ice!

You can of course get a mid-range blender too, really any blender will work. But if it takes 3 or more tries to get that smooth texture without all the lumps, it can be a frustrating experience.
