4 cups frozen pineapple chunks Make sure you get the unsweetened pineapple. The ingredients should simple say, pineapple on the package.

13.5 oz. can full fat coconut milk Make sure this is the canned variety. Do not use the stuff in the carton. Also, make sure there is no added sugar. You want the unsweetened stuff.

2 tbsp. maple syrup Use the real stuff. If you dont have any handy, honey is a great substitute.

1-2 cups ice I didnt use this, but if you prefer an icier texture , add 1 to 2 cups of ice and blend it in with everything else. Without the ice, this is more like an icy smoothie.

Yummy Pina Colada Smoothie made with coconut milk and pineapples!

Delicious Piña Colada smoothie is bursting with flavor and nutrition. A Low-Sodium, Vegetarian, Gluten-Free breakfast.

Spring has definitely sprung around our house! yay!! we are so overjoyed that the warm weather is here and we dont have to bundle up every time we leave the house.

I have been doing daily garden walks and inspecting the new bulbs and growth that is popping up. Im a bit of a garden fanatic, I could walk around all day and look at my flowers!

With the warm weather I have been craving sunshine and all things yellow! I really like Pina Coladas and they seemed like just the thing to make for a warm spring morning.

Obviously I am making non alcoholic smoothies, one because they taste better and two because it is frowned upon to be drinking rum at 7 am on a Monday morning. This was just the thing.

I felt justified because its a healthy alternative and it really is so tasty. I always know when I make something yummy because my darling husband hovers around me while Im taking pictures of it and keeps asking me if Im done so he can eat it.

We both agreed that this smoothie was a keeper and it needed to be added to our regular breakfast smoothie line-up.

  • This recipe can easily be scaled up for as many drinks as you need, it makes about 16 ounces which is enough for 1-2 people depending on the glass you use.
  • Keep in mind that these drinks should be enjoyed immediately as they will melt as they sit. If the drinks become too thin, re-blend them with a handful of ice.
  • Putting your glasses in the freezer helps keep the drink cold longer.
  • Prep your garnishes before making the cocktail to make sure the Pina Coladas dont melt. I use pineapple wedges but you can also use little cocktail umbrellas or maraschino cherries.
  • Use Cream of Coconut to make this drink taste like a mocktail and not like a smoothie!
  • For a fun multi-color drink, blend the drink as directed above and add half of it to a glass. Add a splash of grenadine to the remaining half and blend again until combined. This will give you a Malibu Sunrise colored drink. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and maraschino cherry.
  • Dont want to make this drink virgin? Add a shot of rum before blending.
  • Dont want to add alcohol but want to add some rum flavor? Add a little bit of rum extract for extra flavor

What Is A Pina Colada Smoothie Made Of

Well, the traditional pina colada is a well known and loved blended tiki style alcoholic drink. It is made with coconut, rum, pineapple juice and ice. Our smoothie is definitely not an alcoholic pina colada, so it makes a fun option for anyone looking to enjoy the flavor free of alcohol.

We are using whole frozen pineapple pieces and bananas to add more fiber and nutrition, as well as a good quality vanilla yogurt, honey, coconut milk and ice. This smoothie is thick and creamy with a good amount of protein and fat.

Whats A Pina Colada Smoothie

This mocktail is a Pina Colada Smoothie or a Virgin Pina Colada since its the alcohol-free version of your favorite cocktail you can enjoy for breakfast or snack and refresh!

I love coconut recipes, and Pina Colada is one of my favorite drinks of all time with the best combination of flavors that marries pineapple and coconut.

Faqs And Tips For Making The Best Pineapple Smoothie

Strawberry Piña Colada

What is piña colada smoothie?

A piña colada is a blended cocktail that originated in Puerto Rico. Its traditionally made with pineapple, coconut, rum and ice. A piña colada smoothie is a non alcoholic version of the drink made a little bit healthier with added yogurt and banana.

Can you mix pineapple and milk?

You can, but I think its best if you use coconut milk instead. Coconut goes really well with pineapple. Regular dairy milk can curdle with pineapple and theres even a compound in pineapple that can react with milk and cause some stomach/headache issues.

Can you use coconut milk instead of coconut cream in piña colada?

You can absolutely use coconut milk instead of cream of coconut in your pina coladas. The sugar content will be different in the regular coconut milk though, so you might find that you need to adjust other ingredients to make up for it, especially if youre adding alcohol to your pina colada. Since this pina colada smoothie doesnt contain alcohol, I dont think it needs the extra sugar.

Can The Coconut Extract Be Omitted

I know someone will write saying they dont like coconut. You really cant have a piña colada without coconut, and if you like piña coladas, this smoothie will be right up your alley.

The coconut flavor isnt overly intense, promise. However, omit the coconut extract if you wish.

If you simply dont have coconut extract, then add the optional shredded coconut instead. So long as you add coconut flaovr in some way, youre good to go!

What Is Non Alcoholic Pina Colada Pina Colada Drink Without Alcohol

Non alcoholic pina colada is easy, kid friendly pina colada drink made without using rum, which is usually used to make pina colada.

This kind of alcohol free pina colada is popularly referred as virgin pina colada and it is a very delicious pineapple drink if you prefer drinks without alcohol.

As I mentioned early, we use little vanilla extract for flavor which may have some alcohol content in it as you probably know.

If you want it completely alcohol free, you might skip vanilla extract as well or use a brand which doesnt have it.

You can read more information about the alcohol in vanilla extract here.

Pina colada without alcohol is much like a delicious pineapple coconut milk smoothie which is the perfect refreshing drink for hot summer months or anytime when you want a cooling, refreshing, creamy drink!

Pina colada is mostly made using fresh pineapples, but I am using canned pineapples here which is easy to find year round and so you can enjoy pina colada anytime you want.

If you have fresh, ripe pineapple, you may substitute the canned pineapple with fresh pineapples too.

So here is how you can make this easy, creamy, refreshing homemade pina colada without alcohol.

Hello Pina Colada Breakfast Smoothie

Pina Colada Smoothie!

I cant believe how well this combination of breakfast ingredients mimicked the smooth, thick, texture of Pina Coladas! #nailed it.

Have no fear, the pineapple coconut flavors are in full force here too!

One comment about the coconut. I use coconut butter. This is NOT coconut oil.

Coconut butter is essentially pureed coconut so if you dont want to buy coconut butter, have no fear, just swap with shredded coconut.

I think I would probably add an extra tablespoon of shredded coconut if I was using that over the coconut butter.

But ultimately you are in full control of the coconut factor in our own smoothie!

If you dont have frozen fruit, that is ok too!

Just make sure you add ice to get that texture just right.

I will say though, it is the frozen fruit that really contributes to the amazing texture of this smoothie.

This Vegan Piña Colada Smoothie is truly the best breakfast smoothie! With only 7 ingredients needed, this smoothie has all the flavors of your favorite cocktail, but without alcohol or added sugar. Its truly the best pineapple smoothie filled with healthy fats from coconut and also happens to be naturally sweetened & gluten-free too!

Believe it or not, I actually have teenage Megan to thank for this recipe. Growing up, we spent a few vacations visiting family in Arizona and I always felt SO cool when I could tan by the pool and sip my virgin Piña Colada poolside.

These days, my body cant handle drinking those sugar-filled drinks back to back. Thats why I knew I had to develop a healthier recipe for a Piña Colada smoothie that still had all the traditional flavors of this pineapple coconut drink, but without all the added sugar or alcohol. Plus, this healthy smoothie recipe is great as a quick breakfast and even works as a summertime dessert.

Homemade Coconut Milk For Pia Colada Smoothie

Carton coconut milk has been in grocery stores for several years, yet have you ever read the labels on them? Many contain gums + fillers as well as additives to fortify the milk. I like to know exactly what Im putting in my body, so I often opt for homemade coconut milk and Ive perfected my recipe to produce delicious results every time.

Frequently Asked Questions About Making Smoothies:

Pineapple Passionfruit smoothie

What type of coconut is best for smoothies?

I recommend unsweetened flake coconut. This is found in the baking aisle, and is most widely available. You can also sometimes find frozen coconut in the frozen fruit section at your grocery store. Additionally, some grocery stores also carry freshly cut coconut in the produce section.

What is the healthiest liquid for smoothies?

The healthiest milk is unsweetened almond milk, however be sure to read the label carefully. It should have minimal ingredients and no added sugar. Other healthy liquids with minimal calories are coffee, green tea and coconut water. If youre looking for a high protein liquid, I would recommend whole dairy milk, which offers approximately 8g of protein per serving.

How can I add extra protein to my smoothie?

Plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese are great sources of protein and blend well into smoothies. Another option is to add a good quality protein or collagen-protein powder to your smoothie. I like and use Zhou Nutrition Collagen Protein in my smoothies, coffee and yogurt.

How can I make my smoothie sweeter.

First try adding natural fruits, like banana, pineapple or other sweet fruits. These are great, nutrient-dense options that also include fiber. Other sweeteners that dont contain refined sugar are Vanilla Stevia Drops, Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener and Whole Earth Granular Stevia & Monkfruit Sweetener.

I actually wrote the book on smoothies! Literally!

Whats In A Pina Colada Cocktail Drink

The key on how to make Frozen Pina Colada relies on three main ingredients.

Pineapples. I recommend using the fresh diced chunks of pineapple. It is naturally sweeter and refreshing. Other versions use pineapple juice and taste great as well.

Cream of Coconut. Dont confuse this with coconut milk and coconut cream. Cream of Coconut is smooth, rich, and has the thickest consistency among the three and usually added to drinks because its already sweetened.

Rum. The life of the party drink. White rum is commonly used but any rum will do.

  • Whipped Coconut Cream . Over the winter, I started picking up this dairy-free whipped cream at the grocery store for topping hot chocolate. I love that it keeps well in the fridge. Its obviously not the most healthy thing on the planet, but its REALLY fun to add that signature whipped cream swirl. Otherwise, you can make your own whipped coconut cream or use traditional whipped cream if that works with your dietary needs.
  • Fresh Pineapple Wedges. A wedge or slice of fresh pineapple really makes virgin pina coladas look beautiful and feel like a real treat.
  • The cherry on top is a maraschino or fresh cherry! We love adding a little cherry on top of our virgin pina colada smoothies to turn them into a treat. These maraschino cherries are dye-free and dont use corn syrup. For paleo, try fresh cherries instead!
  • Fresh Mint Leaves. For a little pop of color and freshness, feel free to add a fresh mint leaf or two on top!
