Drink At Least 8 Cups Of Water Every Day

Drinking plenty of water every day is one of the best things you can do for the overall health of your body whether youre trying to lose weight or not. And it’s especially important for breastfeeding moms.

Water helps your body naturally shed unwanted pounds because water:

  • Contributes to regular body functions like circulation, digestion, regulation of body temperature, transportation of nutrients, and milk production
  • Assists your kidneys and makes it easier to keep your body toxin free
  • Helps you feel fuller longer and prevents overeating
  • Keeps your muscles working at 100%
  • Combines with the oil on your skin to form a protective barrier against the suns harmful UV rays and other environmental toxins

We recommend drinking at least eight cups of water every day. Sound like too much to ask from a busy mom?

  • Start by drinking two cups first thing in the morning
  • Next, drink two cups each at lunch and dinner thats six cups
  • Then, to get the last two cups, fill a water bottle with 16 ounces of water and sip on it throughout the day
  • If you’re “not a water drinker,” try an infusion bottle that will allow you to add a hint of fruit. Seltzer works just as well and is especially good for those of you who like to drink soda. Just make sure whichever drink you choose doesnt have added sugar because it can make its way to your baby through your breast milk.

    Add Healthy Fats & Veggies

Mango Mama Protein Shake for Lactation and Weight Loss Joyful Messes

Smoothies are the best way to sneak in nutrients you dont really like to taste.

For example, if you dont love a lot of healthy fats, adding nuts, nut butters, seeds, avocado, oils to your smoothies is a great way to get them in and not even taste them.

If you are not big on veggies, adding spinach or kale to any smoothie will change its color but not the taste.

    Another plus!

    • Soy lecithin 400mg emulsifying that can aid the digestive system
    • Bromelain 5mg enzymes from pineapple assisting protein digestion.

Whats In My Favorite Lactation Green Smoothie:

Baby Spinach gotta get your greens in! If you want to eat more vegetables, try adding baby spinach into your smoothie. You wont taste it, but youll get the nutritional benefits of it.

Pineapple Pineapple is good for Vitamin C, bromelain and antioxidants. You may have also heard of pineapple being used to induce labor at home, however, you have to eat a LOT of pineapple to have this effect.

Banana great for sweetening your smoothie naturally, bananas also help make it super creamy . Bananas contain lots of healthy vitamins and minerals too, like potassium.

Chia Seeds contain lots of calcium and Omega 3s. They also help make a thick and delicious smoothie as they swell in liquids and release a gel.

Brewers Yeast optional! A well known galactagogue you can add Brewers Yeast into this smoothie once your baby has arrived. The best kind to get is this one, which has been debittered as it has a bit of an aftertaste.

These ingredients when mixed together make a sweet, tart lactation green smoothie thats just delicious!

Protein is the Queen of nutrients when it comes to fat loss. Unlike many popular weight loss shakes that contain cheap whey or soy protein, we use high quality Organic Sprouted Brown Rice and Pea Protein which avoids digestive issues such as bloating and gas.

Breakfast Smoothie For Weight Loss – Calcium Rich Smoothie For Pregnant & Breastfeeding Moms

But, with all the processed and yummy treats available today, it is so easy to survive off a less-than-nutritious diet. We fill our plates with foods and dishes that are created for flavor and comfort, rather than nourishment. This is where breastfeeding mamas can have some issues because if your body is in a nutrient-deprived state, it wont want to let go of fat as easily. You can force it to do so by eating too few calories, so it has to burn fat cells, but you can also make your body feel safe to let go of stored fat by giving it all the nutrients it needs! Eating healthy, nutrient-dense foods can be challenging as a mom with picky kids, a busy schedule, or even a picky husband. With the extra cooking and snacks around, it is so much easier to pick off the left overs of everyone else. That is why I created this protein smoothie challenge for breastfeeding mamas.

This challenge focuses on protein and nutrients with protein shakes. By replacing one meal or snack a day with a protein shake, you will feel fuller and more nourished! Your calories may even drop because you will feel more full on less calories, and your body will have more nutrients to use!

There are three protein powders I suggest for this challenge because each of these is safe for breastfeeding mamas. I HIGHLY encourage you to use one of these because they come complete with protein, greens, fruits, digestive enzymes and pre/probiotics. All of these ARE SO IMPORTANT for breastfeeding mamas!!

A Few Steps To A Delicious Smoothie

In principle, there are hardly any limits to the choice of ingredients its as easy as simply mixing according to your taste preference.

Some prefer to blend up a tropical fruit blend such as mango, pineapple, papaya, or passion fruit. Others prefer healthy mixed drinks with carrots, tomatoes, or other local vegetables.

The reason why smoothies are so effective is because the natural ingredients are crushed, which allows the maximum vitamins and minerals to be released for your body to easily access and use.

But whats the best ingredient mix? And what requires the least possible effort?

While its totally possible to prepare smoothies with the help of a stick blender, many usually find it quite complicated, and the result often leaves much to be desired.

Anyone who wants to prepare smoothies on a regular basis should really consider investing in the true all-round kitchen helper: a blender.

While some may hesitate to buy this slightly more pricey option, its worth noting that many other dishes, such as dips, sauces, soups, and much more can be made with this handy appliance.

This definitely justifies the cost in the long run.

    Milk Supply Boosting Smoothie Recipe

The Healthy Mummy smoothie mix already contains lactation boosting herbs such as fenugreek and ginger.

To turn your smoothie into a serious milk boosting machine try adding cashews which contain calcium and iron particularly important to consume whilst breastfeeding.

Sesame seeds are also noted as a galactogogue , as they are high in calcium and oestrogenic properties.

Oatmeal is a comfort food. When a woman sits down and eats a bowl of oatmeal, it may help her to relax, which in turn may cause her body to release oxytocin . In addition, being relaxed may help with the milk let-down process.

Coconut oil is high in lauric acid which is the same type of fat in breast milk.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that lactating mothers who eat coconut oil and other coconut products, have significantly increased levels of lauric acid and capric acid in their breast milk, creating milk rich in health promoting nutrients.

Baby Weight Cleansing + A Breastfeeding Smoothie

The Perfect Green Lactation Smoothie For Weight Loss While ...

Lately so many people that I know have been doing cleanses and I think that its awesome! It makes me so happy to know that people are starting to wake up to the horrors of the Standard American Diet , and become educated about the importance of nutrition, ethics & food.

Currently, Im on my third day of a smoothie/clean-eating cleanse. Of course there are all sorts of reasons to do one, but at the moment I am doing it 100% for weight loss. For me, breastfeeding has been a double-edged sword in so many ways. A month after Roman was born, I lost thirty pounds of my pregnancy weight. I attributed a lot of that weight loss to breastfeeding and all of the calories that it burns. Additionally, Roman was born in spring and I spent all of spring, summer, and autumn as active as possible in the great outdoors burning even more calories. Fast forward to this horrendous winter that has plagued the northeast this year and everything changed.

Letting go of the emotional re-addiction to food that I have developed over the past year and a half is not easy. I am on the third day of completely altering my relationship with food. I have a long way to go. The fact that I am completely aware and no longer in denial is huge. The fact that I am writing all of this out and sharing it is also huge. I am now accountable. Wish me luck.

    Avocado In Lactation Smoothies Recipes

First of all, avocados are packed with folic acid, vitamin C, Vitamin E, and potassium. Your breastfed baby will get enough folic acid that helps in their overall growth and development.

Second, they also contain unsaturated fats that help in balancing your bad fat levels and boosting your milk supply.

If you cant stand avocados in a smoothie, try it on a sandwich or plain. I love the consistency avocados add to smoothies.

    You Want Smooth And Creamy

    • Use a Vitamix or Blendtec You can certainly use a hand blender or a regular blender. However, if you need your smoothie to be extra smooth without a single little piece to find, we recommend using a high-power blender like Vitamix* or Blendtec.
    • Choose ground chia seeds If you dont have a high-power blender and you still want to enjoy a smooth and creamy smoothie, use ground chia seeds.
    • Soak oats in the milk Soak oats overnight in milk and make your smoothie in the morning. This way even if you dont have a high-power blender, your regular one can make the oat pieces disappear.
