Figs, bananas, and any milk of your choice- that’s it!

During Fig season, I prefer to use fresh ones in this smoothie. Costco is great for buying large quantities, so that I can use them in smoothies throughout the week. Whenever these aren’t available, dried figs work just as well! Just soak them in water beforehand, to make them a bit softer. You can even freeze the figs to make the smoothie colder.

The bananas are key to making this smoothie as smooth and sweet as it is, so make sure they are nice and ripe for the best result. Just like with the figs, a frozen banana will make the smoothie nice and cold!

I’ve used regular milk in this smoothie, but you can use almond, oat, soy, or any other type of milk you’d like to make this a vegan smoothie.

  • Toss the apple and lettuce into a blender and give it a spin.
  • Add chilled water and stir well before pouring it into two glasses.

    How To Make Fig Smoothie

    1. Rinse 6 to 7 fresh figs a few times in water using a colander. Drain all the water. Trim off the upper stalk part of the fig, if it is hard. Chop each fig into four parts.

    Transfer the chopped figs in a blender or mixer jar. Remember to use fresh figs that are sweet and ripe.

    You do not need to peel the figs. However, if you like, you can choose to peel them.

    2. Peel and slice 1 medium-sized banana, add them in the blender jar. Instead of bananas, you can use strawberries or any other berries. You can also skip bananas and add 6 to 7 figs more.

    3. Add ½ cup lite coconut milk or thin or medium consistency coconut milk and 1 pinch ground cinnamon. Adding ground cinnamon is optional.

    You can also add a pinch of ground ginger powder, ground green cardamom powder, ground nutmeg or ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract. Or can skip any flavoring entirely.

    4. Blend till fine and smooth. To thin the consistency, you can add some more lite coconut milk.

    5. Pour Fig Smoothie in a glass or drinking glass jar and serve.

    Where To Find Fresh Figs

    Figs originated in the Mediterranean. They gained popularity centuries ago, and were found in many ancient civilizations. They are grown on tall trees that can live up to 100 years so this fig smoothie can become an annual tradition! Most figs bought in the US today come from California and Texas.

    You can also use frozen figs in this recipe. I can find them at Trader Joes in the frozen fruit section, which leads me to believe theres prob a few other stores that have them too.

    About This Fig Smoothie

    When fresh figs are in season, make this delish and healthy smoothie. I do add one banana as it makes the smoothie more flavorful giving a creamier consistency.

    In fact when strawberries are in season, you can add strawberries instead of bananas in this Fig Smoothie recipe.

    I also usually make my fruity smoothies and shakes with vegan or plant-based milks since some fruits and dairy milk are incompatible and can cause digestion problems.

    Mostly I prefer almond milk and coconut milk in fruit-based smoothies. As this recipe of Fig Smoothie also contains banana, I have used coconut milk in it.

    The fresh figs that I used for this Fig Smoothie were quite sweet. So, I havent used any extra sweetener in the recipe. However, you can add a sweetener as per your preference.

    Some healthy sweetener options are honey, jaggery, palm jaggery, maple syrup, coconut sugar, unrefined cane sugar and evaporated sugarcane juice.

    Smoothies, Milkshakes and Fruit Juices are wholesome and nutritious drinks. Thus, should be included in our day-to-day diets. Smoothies are one such way of including these drinks as they are very easy to prepare and get done in less than 10 minutes.

    Can You Make Dried Fig Smoothie Ahead Of Time

    Yes. You can make the dried fig smoothie ahead of time and store it in the fridge for 1-2 days. I usually avoid adding bananas in that case as they can get oxidized. I mix it only before I am ready to serve it and quickly blend it with a hand blender.

    Also, the smoothie will become thick after refrigerating for few hours. You can adjust the consistency by adding some milk and giving it a quick stir.

    Figs: Any type of fig will work for this smoothie, including Black Mission Figs, Adriatic Figs, Brown Turkey Figs, Green Figs and more. Frozen figs may also be used.

    Frozen banana: The banana adds some natural sweetness to this smoothie. You can use fresh or frozen banana in this recipe. If using fresh banana, be sure to add some ice for better texture.

    Greek yogurt: I used unsweetened Greek yogurt for this recipe. For a dairy-free and vegan version, be sure to use plant-based yogurt in place of traditional yogurt.

    Ground flaxseed: Ground flaxseed adds a bit of fiber and a dose of plant-based protein. I find it easier to use ground flaxseed but you could also add whole flax seeds if you have a high speed blender. Chia seeds would also work in place of flax seeds in this recipe.

    Milk of choice: I used unsweetened almond milk but you can use any milk you like. Oat milk, cashew milk, and hemp milk would all work great in its place. If you like a thinner consistency in your smoothies, add more milk.

    I dont personally follow a keto diet, but Suzanne Ryans recipes are always so delicious, and this smoothie in particular appeals to me on mornings when I am craving something sweet.
