Additional Smoothie Making Tips

ADD PROTEIN TO KEEP YOU FULL: When I dont have time to make breakfast, I add my favorite protein powder to this smoothie. I love that I cant taste the protein powder but I know its there because it keeps me full until lunchtime.

USE FROZEN FRUIT: I like to use frozen fruit instead of ice cubes in my smoothies. For this smoothie, you want to use mixed berries, like blueberries, raspberries, blackberries.these berries give you energy! And to make it super easy, I just buy the chopped frozen mixed berries in the frozen section of my grocery store, because Im all about making things quicker and easier!

FILL UP YOUR BLENDER: You always want to layer your ingredients softest to hardest . First, add the orange juice, vanilla extract, and yogurt. Then, add fresh or frozen fruit.

EXTRA SMOOTHIE LEFTOVER? If you have some leftover smoothie, you can put it in the fridge for later. Once youre ready to drink it, I like to add a little extra yogurt to the smoothie to thicken it up again.

Its tempting to reach for a cup of coffee first thing in the morning as your energy source. Or grab a second, or third, cup of coffee when that 3 PM afternoon slump hits!

Enter healthy fats and fiber. This green smoothie recipe contains naturally energy boosting ingredients, like:

Smoothies Are Great For Getting You Your Daily Nutrients

We all know we have to eat two to five cups of fruits and veggies each day for good health. We also all know how hard this can be pretty hard to do. Energy boosting smoothies pretty much solve this problem. Blended smoothies are an efficient way to pack a ton of nutrition into just one glass, and you can be as creative and as imaginative as you want in terms of deciding what to include.

To get in a variety of nutrients, you can try seasonal flavours and fruits. There is nothing worse than eating or drinking the same thing every single day. Unless of course, its coffee or ice-cream.

Since we are talking about breaking bad habits and adopting new ones, lets get on with it.

You already know this, but I have to say: I am not a doctor so take these with a grain of salt. If you have health issues, consult your doctor before eating or drinking certain foods. As you should with everything, drink smoothies in moderation.

Homemade smoothies are the best because you 100% know what is in it.

What Are The Healthiest Things To Put In A Smoothie

BEST MORNING SMOOTHIE FOR ENERGY | Smoothie Recipe for Beginners

While fruit is healthy for you, it does contain a large amount of natural sugar. For this reason, I recommend adding a good source of protein, healthy fats, and fiber to your smoothies in order to make them more satisfying and nutrient-dense. This will help you to stay fuller longer and prevent any blood sugar spikes. Some of my favorite additions include chia seeds, hemp hearts, flaxseeds, avocado, nut butter, kale/greens.

The Spruce

Smoothies are a convenient and colorful way to start your day, but some recipes can be filled with added sugar and fat. For a healthy meal or snack, stick to the basics: fruit and veggies.

Every successful smoothie contains two main ingredients: fruit and/or vegetables and a liquid, such as fruit juice, vegetable juice, or milk. Other possible ingredients include yogurt, nut butter, seeds, spices, herbs, and more. Many smoothies also include a few ice cubes to keep the mixture nice and cold. Often, recipes can be tweaked to meet different dietary requirements or tastesfeel free to swap out dairy products for non-dairy ones or change up the spices and juices.

All of these smoothies recipes are loaded with good-for-you vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, and protein. They’re made with only natural ingredients and range in flavors from mango to chocolate to veggie. You’re sure to find a breakfast smoothie for every day of the week.

Ingredients In This Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Recipe

Of course, you could just throw quantities of strawberry, blueberry and banana into a blender. But guess what? Making the perfect smoothie is harder than you think. Often when we wing it, we end up with a smoothie thats way too thick, too watery, or too sour. Heres what you need for this strawberry blueberry smoothie for just the right flavor and textureor jump right to the recipe below!

  • Frozen strawberries and blueberries: Frozen berries are perfect for smoothies: they add just the right icy texture and theyre easy to store. Even better: theyre cheaper than fresh berries!
  • Banana: All our smoothie recipes use room temperature banana: because we never remember to freeze them! The banana makes just the right creamy texture.
  • Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt adds protein, and has live probiotics that can improve gut health.
  • Milk: Use whatever milk youd like: you can even get away with water here!
  • Maple syrup: Frozen berries can be fairly tart: more so than ripe fresh berries. The flavor needs a bit of sweetener here. Use honey or agave syrup if you prefer.
  • Ice: A bit of ice makes a fluffy, frothy texture.
  • Cinnamon: This is that little extra oomph that makes this smoothie great! Feel free to cut it back if youd like it to be more of a supporting flavor .

What Do You Put In A Breakfast Smoothie

  • Healthy Fats. Your favorite nut butter, coconut milk, or chia seeds. This makes the smoothie more satisfying and keeps you full between meals. Keep portions in mind I usually add about 1 tablespoon.
  • Protein and Fiber Additions. Greek yogurt or your favorite protein powder are easy ways to make breakfast protein smoothies. A tablespoon of oatmeal adds fiber.
  • Fruit. Breakfast fruit smoothies are always a crowd-pleasing choice. Strawberries and blueberries are my go-tos. Bananas make smoothies naturally sweet. Mango and pineapple can hide the taste of greens. Unexpected fruits like apples or watermelon can be scrumptious too.
  • Vegetables. Spinach, kale, avocado, carrots, and even beets can all be added to smoothies.
  • Flavor Additions. Vanilla, cinnamon, honey, maple syrup, and dates are all excellent ways to give your smoothie more flavor.
  • Liquid. Unsweetened almond milk is my favorite for smoothies. You can also use juice , a different kind of milk, coconut water, or even plain water.

More On Breakfast Energy Smoothie

The blender was on the kitchen counter in no time, I remembered how delicious was the Breakfast Energy Smoothie, and was excited to make it, but suddenly I remembered, I remembered YOU!

Yes, you, I wanted to share this recipe with you. I usually grab the ingredients, dump it in the blender, and Im done, but since I wanted you to try it too, I had to measure everything, to make sure that your smoothie tastes exactly like mine. It was a pleasure doing this for you.

Get ready! You are going to make a large glass of smoothie and you will love it, I promise. I used all the ingredients that were good for your heart and brain, well, it was morning and I needed something to wake me up and help me focus. Today was a little warmish and after adding few ice cubes the smoothie turned into a refreshing potion.

To sweeten breakfast energy smoothie, I used raw sugar but you can use honey or your favorite sweetener. Try to use ripe bananas, I mean the ones with light dark spots, they are much sweeter, this will reduce your use of sugar.

How To Make A Green Smoothie

The secret to making the best healthy green smoothie comes from combining the perfect ratio of ingredients:

I have my favorites, which I will share in my recipe below, but you can experiment with different combinations.

But overall what works best for 1 serving is:

  • 1 cup leafy greens
  • 1 1/2 cup of fruits
  • 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of superfoods adds-in

1. Pick you greens

Well. its a green smoothie after all. And it aint going to get green if you dont add some leafy goodness to it. I use spinach in my smoothie recipe, to get a boost of iron, but any other greens will work just as well. I personally find that kale has a taste a bit too strong for my liking.

2. Pick your fruit

So many delicious fruits to try! Honestly, you can pretty much pick and choose anything from the list below without going wrong. My favorite choice is using a combination of green apple, orange, and banana. If you are one of those people that dont like bananas, I found that substituting it with pineapple is a great choice. Or if you love an extra creamy texture, avocado is perfect. Also remember that if you add a lot of berries you might not get a green smoothie. The color of your shake will be kind of brown but it will taste delicious anyway .

How To Make Meal Prep Smoothie Packs:

You guys know Im a huge fan of meal prep to make life easier, especially when it comes to getting out the door in the morning.

Enter make-ahead, meal prep smoothie packs!

All you have to do is grab your pre-prepped smoothie pack from the freezer, dump it into your blender, add your liquid base and blend!

Heres how I personally make meal prep smoothie packs for this kale pineapple smoothie recipe:

  • Reusable Food Storage Bags. I personally love using these stasher reusable silicon food bags that are freezer-friendly . But you can always use whatever sandwich-sized or quart-sized, ziplock freezer bags you have on hand.
  • Ingredients. Add the pineapple, I use already frozen pineapple but you could use fresh too, kale, and avocado to your smoothie pack. DO NOT add coconut oil or water/coconut water liquid base. Youll add the liquid when youre actually making the smoothie. This is why I personally love using coconut butter instead of coconut oil for this kale pineapple smoothie because you can add the coconut butter to the smoothie pack pack eliminating one more step when you actually make the smoothie.
  • Storage + How to Blend. Seal your smoothie pack and add it to your freezer. When youre ready to actually make the smoothie all you have to do is grab your pre-prepped smoothie pack from the freezer, dump it into your blender, add your liquid base and add any additional powders or oils you didnt include in the smoothie pack, and blend!
