Controversial comics/commentators Dave Chappelle and Joe Rogan bring their co-headlining tour to the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Thursday, Oct. 28.
With an in-the-round stage configuration that maximizes seating capacity, this will likely be the largest crowd to attend an arena show in New Orleans since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
That pandemic delayed this concert twice. Rogan and Chappelle were originally slated to co-headline the Smoothie King Center in April 2020. That initial date was canceled as the first wave of the pandemic shut down live entertainment around the globe.

Ever-edgy comedians Dave Chappelle and Joe Rogan will stalk the stage at the Smoothie King Center on Sept. 4. Tickets to see the two top-flight humorists go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, from $65 to $145 via Ticketmaster.
Chappelle, 47, is arguably the hottest standup comic of the 21st century. He achieved superstardom with Chappelles Show, a prime-time weekly sketch comedy series in the early 2000s, where he unleashed his cutting commentary on race relations and celebrity.
Though Chappelle suddenly dropped out of the show in 2006 and shirked the spotlight for a few years thereafter, his reputation as Americas premier firebrand only intensified. Since his return to comedy in 2014, Chappelle has made several award-winning concert appearances, hosted Saturday Night Live and founded an influential podcast. Predictably, his splintery social commentary has cost him some fans. His remarks about the #MeToo movement and transgender people have alienated some audience members in recent years.

“See, this is what gets me canceled,” Rogan said to the laughing crowd.
Thursday night saw an explosive joint performance headlined by Dave Chappelle with his long-time friend and fellow comedian Joe Rogan in New Orleans.
Also in the line-up were comedians Jeff Ross, Tom Segura, and Donnell Rawlings, all of whom have been frequent guests on Rogan’s wildly popular podcast.
Rogan’s set preceded that of Chappelle, and the podcaster brought Chappelle on for a brief moment and they interacted together before Chappelle did his own routine, to wild applause by fans in the packed venue, the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The event comes right on the heels of a similar show in Nashville, where the comedians were also very warmly received by an appreciative audicence.

Both Rogan and Chappelle have been viciously attacked in the mainstream media recently. Rogan interviewed CNN’s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta and for lying about the usage of ivermectin.
Chappelle has released another Netflix special, ominously titled, “The Closer.” This special has also been the center of controversy, both within Netflix and in the general public. However, many other celebrities, like Bill Maher and Damon Wayans, have both come out strongly to publicly support Chappelle.
Millennium Tour 2021’s Ashanti Omarion Bow Wow Made 2000s Nostalgia Fun In New Orleans
Is it too soon for 2000s nostalgia? Not according to the Millennium Tour.
Chappelle and Rogan likely won’t be the only acts on the bill. Two or three other comedians have typically opened shows on the tour. At Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena last Sunday, the opening acts included roast-master Jeffrey Ross, Tom Segura and Donnell “Ashy Larry” Rawlings. It’s unclear if any or all of them will be on the bill for the New Orleans concert.
COVID protocols: On Friday, New Orleans suspends its indoor mask mandate. Technically it is still in place for tonight’s show, but if last weekend’s concerts at the Smoothie Center were any indication, most patrons will ditch the mask after arriving at their seats. Proof of a COVID vaccine or negative COVID test from the previous 72 hours is required for entry.
Parking: Parking in the Caesars Superdome lots is limited. For concerts last weekend, parking cost $25 in the Superdome lots and only credit cards were accepted as payment. All concessions inside the arena are also cashless.
Will Dave Chappelle talk about “The Closer” controversy? Most likely. Chappelle’s latest Netflix special, “The Closer,” offended some viewers who thought comments he made were homophobic and transphobic. Some employees at Netflix’s Los Angeles headquarters staged a walk-out to protest the special.

Joe Rogan Contracts Covid Postpones Shows With Dave Chappelle
Dave Chappelle and Joe Rogan have been doing stand-up shows together on and off since December, but they’ve been forced to postpone the next two, originally scheduled for Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Friday and New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center on Saturday , as Rogan has tested positive for COVID. He shared the news in a video on Instagram, saying, “I got back from the road Saturday night, feeling very weary. I had a headache. I felt just run-down. Just to be cautious, I separated from my family, slept in a different part of the house. Throughout the night, I got fevers, sweats. I knew what was going on. I got up in the morning, got tested. Turns out, I got COVID.”
“We immediately threw the kitchen sink at it,” Rogan continued, “all kinds of meds. Monoclonal antibodies, Ivermectin, Z-pack, prednisone everything. I also got an NAD drip and a vitamin drip, and I did that three days in a row, and here we are on Wednesday, and I feel great. I really only had one bad day.”
Ivermectin, as the FDA points out, is “often used in the U.S. to treat or prevent parasites in animals.” It’s not an anti-viral, and it can be dangerous in large quantities . However, it’s been touted by some, like conservative talk show hosts and politicians, as a COVID treatment and preventative, dismaying doctors and, in some cases, causing hospitalization and death.
Chappelle, meanwhile, tested positive for COVID himself back in January.
