Tips For Making Smoothies
I know making smoothies is not particularly difficult . But I do have a few, easy tips to ensure the perfect, creamy, and thick smoothie every time!
- use a high powered blender I truly believe its worth investing in a good blender to make things like smoothies, sauces, cashews based treats, ice cream bases, and other blended items. It makes all the difference. For instance, spinach becomes undetectable when using a good blender . This is what I use
- make sure the fruit is frozen this leads to a creamy, thick smoothie. I prefer using frozen fruit over adding ice because it creates a smoother texture .
- add the milk a little at a time I add milk, about a half cup at a time, until I reach my desired consistency. I prefer a thick smoothie, more like a milkshake, so dont like to add too much milk. Of course, you can add more if you like it thinner. But its hard to thicken a smoothie once its become too thin, so adding the milk gradually is key.
- blend until perfectly smooth blend, scraping down the sides as necessary, until all the ingredients are well-incorporated and perfectly smooth. This may take a few minutes, but be patient! There is nothing worse than when your smoothie gets caught in the straw because there is still chunks of fruit!

Domestic Science: A Surprising Miracle Cure For Berry Stains
Ive long accepted that some of the things I love most about summerice cream, berries, hot dogs with ketchupoften take a quick turn into stain disaster territory. But last summer startedimmediatelywith my worst stain yet.
It was Memorial Day weekend, and my boyfriend and I were happily settling into a mini staycation in our New York City neighborhood. After coffee, we walked to the grocery store to stock up on start-of-summer essentials: watermelon, lemonade fixings, ingredients for haddock chowder, a bunch of peonies, and a bag of frozen Maine blueberries. As we walked home in the sun I was looking forward to lunch: a tomato sandwich and some potato chips.
When we got home, we put our cloth grocery bags on our couch and started unpacking. After a few trips back and forth to the fridge, I took out the bag of frozen blueberries, and a rush of purple liquid dripped all over my hands and onto the floor. Dreading what Id find, I picked up the grocery bag and, yes, underneath was a deep, dark purple stain the size of a grapefruitall over a white sheepskin throw.
As it turns out, the solution, conveniently, is the same ingredient youd add to make a berry pie: fresh lemon juice. Apparently, the acidity of the lemon juice helps break down the berry juice.
Heres what I did and what to do if something similar happens to you.
