    Benefits Of Protein Shakes

Protein shakes satisfy hunger. Thats a big benefit in my mind because, after a workout, Im ravenous. And maybe Im heading off to work or to take the kids on an outing and need energy fast. Thats when I reach for a chocolate banana peanut butter protein shake!

    More benefits:

    • Protein shakes are great for muscle recovery
    • Protein shakes can replace a meal
    • Protein shakes can help increase muscle mass when you exercise

    Ingredients What You Need

Bananas: I like to use frozen ripe bananas to make the shake consistency super creamy and milkshake-like. You want them to be ripe, but not too ripe! They will need to be frozen overnight to be completely solid for the shake.

Protein powder: you can use whatever protein powder you like! I personally love chocolate and use this plant-based protein brand.

Peanut butter: for some added protein and delicious flavor!

Hemp seeds: These seeds are full of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. But they are also perfect for blending into smoothies or shakes because they help make the consistency super creamy!

Nut milk: I recommend using almond milk or cashew milk!

    Cinnamon: for flavor!

How To Store Banana Pb Fit Powder & Chocolate Protein Shake

If you arent ready to drink your shake as soon as you make it, you can store it in the fridge. Sometimes I will do this the night before if I know that I am going to have a hectic morning. Just blend the ingredients and store them in an air-tight container in the fridge. You wont want to keep them in there for long no more than 2 days. Keep in mind that you can taste the difference this shake is definitely better when enjoyed fresh. Give it a good stir before drinking it leftover in case anything has separated.

You can also freeze this PB smoothie mixture. After blending, pour it into an airtight container and place it in the freezer. It will last up to 3 weeks. When youre ready to drink it, let it thaw in the fridge until its back to smoothie consistency. If you think its too thick, you can blend it with a little milk to thin it out.

How To Make A Protein Shake Without Banana

Chocolate, Banana, Peanut Butter Protein Shake A Sweet ...

Frozen bananas give shakes and smoothies that thick and creamy texture similar to a shake youd get from a smoothie shop. They also add a bit of sweetness, without being too overpowering, as well as, extra nutrients like potassium. That said, I know that some people simply dont like bananas, need a low-sugar option and/or are allergic so I have some options for you to make this shake banana free:

    • ice replace the frozen banana with additional ice . It will give the shake volume and add a nice, frozen slushy texture.
    • frozen milk ice cubes this is the same concept, but instead of using regular ice cubes, make frozen cubes using your favorite non-dairy milk and use about 1 cup of these cubes instead of the frozen banana.
    • frozen cauliflower rice I use frozen cauliflower rice in my shakes all the time and it works as a low-sugar replacement for frozen banana. I do find that it adds a different texture to shakes, especially if you use a large amount. Id start with 1/4 cup, give the shake a taste and then add more if needed.

There are some other frozen fruit and veggie substitutes for banana in protein shakes, like frozen berries, frozen mango or even avocado, but Im not recommending these because they will likely overpower the peanut butter were going for with this protein shake. That said, if you dont mind the extra flavor, feel free to try these!

    Does Peanut Flour Contain Fat

Yes, there is still a little bit of fat in peanut flour, but its only about 1g per serving, compared to about 10g in regular peanut butter. While I dont think we need to fear the fat in regular nut butter, if you want a lower calorie option, peanut flour is a great option for smoothies! Its easy to blend and it adds tons of peanut butter flavor without as much fat and calories.

How To Make a Low Calorie Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie | Healthy Peanut Butter Protein Shake Recipe

To make this high protein, low carb chocolate peanut butter smoothie, you blend together creamy, full fat coconut milk with cocoa powder, peanut butter and protein powder. While optional, I love to add vanilla, cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne. A little nutmeg would be delicious too.

Next, add in a bit of water and ice to thicken. The water helps get everything going in the blender and the ice keeps is thick and cold. How much ice you add is up to you simply add as much as you wish to reach your desired consistency.

    Strawberry Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie

Last week, I shared my first smoothie recipe – Banana Mocha Smoothie. Since that one uses chocolate protein powder, I thought I would share a smoothie with vanilla protein.

To start, this easy smoothie is so delicious! Why have a plain protein shake with water when you could make this instead? Plus, I bet you already have all of these ingredients in your kitchen!

I used peanut butter powder in this recipe, but you can use regular peanut butter as well. Personally, I feel like the PB flavor really comes through when I use peanut butter powder opposed to regular peanut butter. I noticed I have to add a lot of regular peanut butter to the smoothie in order for it to taste “peanut buttery.”

Pro Tip: You could also add a drizzle of peanut butter on top of the smoothie as well as some granola and eat this smoothie with a spoon. I LOVE doing this!

    Storage And Freezing Instructions

This Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein recipe only makes one smoothie, but you can make extra to feed your family! And you can also use this smoothie recipe to meal prep by storing leftovers in individual containers or mason jars to drink throughout the week. Just store in the fridge for up to 4 days!

You can also freeze this smoothie to blend later by pouring it up into an ice cube tray and re-blending as you need. You may just need to add a splash of milk or water to get it going.
