You should also avoid fruits that are high in sugar especially if you are trying to lose weight. Fruit-Based Smoothies: These are made with a higher ratio of fruit to other ingredients, so they are naturally lower in sugar than other types of smoothies.
Fruit can also be a good source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Vegetable-Based Smoothies: These smoothies are higher in fiber than fruit-based smoothies, but they are also higher in plant-based proteins.
Vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, and kale are common ingredients in vegetable-based smoothies, and they may not taste very good.

The strict “detox” plan replaces all three daily meals with smoothies for three days. On the 21-day plan, you’ll consume two meal-replacement smoothies , one solid-food meal, and a few snacks. Though not a part of Sgoutas “official” smoothie diet, some plan for a “flex day” to make the diet more sustainable.
However, Sgoutas points out that if the regular meals are too high in calories, the diet probably won’t be effective for weight loss. Also of note: The e-book suggests that this diet is not for people with food allergies.

Some smoothies also call for honey, which only adds more sugar.
Additionally, most of the diet’s smoothies are very low in protein, and a few fall short in healthy fats. Sgoutas does emphasize getting enough protein throughout the day and recommends at least 50 grams daily by eating a little with each meal and snack. However, some people might find it difficult to meet their daily protein needs on this plan, especially those who don’t spend a lot of time meal planning.

Once youve got your head around having ingredients rather than ready-to-eat things in your kitchen cupboards, its actually very easy. The only issue is the lifestyle and habit changes that come along with it.
It is very likely that for many people, following a totally, religiously whole food diet may be unattainable at least some of the time. For example, there are days where you dont get time to make your lunch or if you want to enjoy social eating. Similarly, people who have young children or who are working more than one job are unlikely to be able to follow a whole food diet all of the time.
Sometimes, we put ourselves under pressure to be as perfect as we can with diets like this, which can lead to an eating disorder called Orthorexia, which is a preoccupation with healthy eating.
This means that following a whole food diet, in principle, can be healthy and accessible for some people but not for everyone. It also means that those with previous disordered eating, as always, need to avoid any form of dietary restriction or rules around their diet.
