    Liquid For Your Smoothie:

This smoothie recipe does not feature any dairy or dairy substitutes, but I find the bananas help give the smoothie that silky, creamy factor just fine! But do feel free to swap out the juice for your choice of milk if you prefer.

If you do choose to use juice, fresh is definitely best. I used freshly squeezed orange juice for mine. You can use whichever juice is your favorite, and you can also use store bought juice.

If youre making your smoothie with store bought juice, just be careful with the sweetness. Pre-made juice is often sweeter than fresh.

Whenever I use store bought juice, if its a brand Im not familiar with, I like to add half the juice called for, blend, and taste the smoothie. If its too thick, but perfectly sweet, Ill thin it out with some water. If it can still use some sweetness, Ill add the rest of the juice to get the conistency I like.

How To Make A Perfect Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Making a perfect smoothie is all about getting the right ratio. Not so thick that you cant actually blend the smoothie, and not so thin that it drinks more like milk that tastes like fruit than a smoothie.

The ratio should be just right for this easy smoothie recipe, but the nice thing about it is that its easy to adjust if youd like it a little thinner, or a little thicker.

To make it thicker you can do 2 things:

  • Use a frozen banana instead of a fresh banana.
  • Add more frozen strawberries or a bit of ice and blend again until you reach your desired consistency!
  • To make it thinner all you have to do is add a bit more liquid until its thin enough for the perfect sip.

But backing it up, lets go over the step-by-step of how to make this smoothie:

    • Starting with 1 ¼ cups dairy free milk, add all ingredients to a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick to blend freely use your blenders tamper or add a little more milk at a time until desired consistency is reached.
    • If youd like your smoothie a little bit sweeter you can add a bit of honey or maple syrup to taste.
    • Divide between two glasses and enjoy!

    Tips For Making Popsicles

Make sure to leave about 1/4 space at the top of the mold for the popsicle to expand.

When juice and water freezes, it expands. If the juice and ice expand over the mold, it makes the removal of the lid on the mold harder. Also, you dont get a clean edge to your popsicle.

Use a bowl or liquid measuring cup to pour the smoothie into the popsicle mold.

Ingredients for Vegan Strawberry and Banana Smoothie:

Pro tip: For best results, use frozen fruit.

    How to freeze fresh bananas:

    Cut bananas into 1 slices.

Arrange slices in an even layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Place the baking sheet in the freezer.

Once the banana slices are frozen, place them in a freezer safe plastic bag.

When its time to make a smoothie, just pull out just what you need and store the rest for another time.

ADD SOME GREENS! When Im making strawberry banana smoothies for grown-ups, I usually toss in a handful or two of spinach or greens. Full disclosure: It makes the color pretty muddy and ugly, but it tastes totally fine!

TRY USING FLAVORED YOGURT. Feel free to use whatever yogurt you have on hand. If you want to use strawberry or vanilla yogurt instead of plain/unsweetened, go for it!

SPRINKLE WITH GRANOLA. I love adding a little sprinkle of granola and fresh fruit on top of my strawberry banana smoothies for a little crunch. Its great here if youre serving them for breakfast

TOP WITH CACAO NIBS. You can channel some dessert/milkshake vibes by adding a tiny sprinkle of cacao nibs on top. Just saying.

ADD A SQUEEZE OF LEMON JUICE. You can also brighten this up with a squeeze or two of lemon juice. It kind of tastes like cheesecake!

    Green Spinach Super Smoothie

    Strawberry Banana Smoothie Ingredients

Okay so besides the fact that this smoothie is soooo delicious, its also pretty amazing because its made with just THREE ingredients! I dont think it gets much easier than that.

And believe it or not these healthy smoothies are made without yogurt, without dairy, and without juice. WOO!

So what do you need to make a strawberry banana smoothie?

    • A large banana I typically use a fresh banana, but if you want an even thicker smoothie, or if its all you have on hand you can absolutely use a frozen banana. I like my strawberry banana smoothie to be a bit more strawberry forward in flavor so this recipe only calls for 1 banana to make 2 smoothies. If you want more banana flavor you can add a second banana!
    • Frozen strawberries Frozen strawberries are what make this smoothie THICK. If you dont have any frozen strawberries you can substitute fresh in a pinch but youll want to add a handful of ice to your smoothie to cool it down and thicken it up.
    • Non dairy milk of choice Almond milk, oat milk, cashew milk, and hemp milk are all fantastic options. Remember the creamier the plant based milk the creamier your smoothie will be!

And of course a blender! My Vitamix is my best friend in the kitchen but any powerful blender will work.

Because this smoothie recipe is made with just 1 banana for two smoothies its not super duper sweet. If you prefer your smoothie sweeter you can either add a second banana or a bit of honey / maple syrup to sweeten it to taste!

What Makes This Strawberry Banana Smoothie Healthy

Healthy looks different for everyone, but this smoothie is relatively healthy compared to lots of other options out there!

First of all its dairy free , made with real fruit, and made with no artificial ANYTHING gums, fillers, flavors, or sweeteners.

On top of that strawberries are rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants, fiber, and essential minerals. Bananas sometimes get a bad reputation but they actually contain many important nutrients! They are a good source of potassium, Vitamin C, antioxidants, and phytonutrients.

And both bananas and strawberries are prebiotic foods which is a food that provides food for the good bacteria in your gut or probiotics.

Additionally, because this smoothie is lower in sugar its perfect for kiddos and toddlers. And so creamy it honestly could pass as a strawberry milkshake for the little ones
