How To Make It

5 Healthy Breakfast Smoothies!
  • Put the ingredients in a blender and whir it up!
  • This will make two large smoothies.
  • Unlike baking recipes, for instance, smoothie recipes do not have to use exact measurements. You can adjust according to taste. The only difference in choosing between fresh or frozen fruit is how thick you want it to be. Frozen will make for a more milkshake-thick smoothie, whereas fresh will get thickened up slightly by the ice, but have a more liquidy texture. Or you can combine frozen and fresh fruit.

You can use any kind of soft fruit you want, such as berries, bananas, peeled peaches or nectarines, melons, even grapes, and puree, and know you can always add a bit more fruit or ice to thicken it or a bit more milk to thin it out.

Whats The Best Liquid For Making Smoothies

We like to use milk of choice. If youre a fan of coconut milk, use it. Like cows milk? Go for it. A fan of almond milk? Cool. Use whatever milk you like in your smoothiesyou cant go wrong. I just recommend you stick to unsweetened and unflavored versions. That gives you the most control over the smoothie.

Ways To Add Coffee To Smoothies

How to Make Your Very Own Homemade Oatmeal Smoothies!

There are a few ways that I like to add coffee to my smoothies that I feel work best in both flavor and texture. I would not recommend using ground coffee beans as theyll most likely be too potent and crunchy. Here are the best ways to prepare your coffee for smoothies:

  • Brew a pot of coffee like you normally would and then reserve a few cups for making smoothies. First, allow the coffee to cool completely to room temperature, then add the coffee to a mason jar or glass container and store in the fridge for up to 5 days for smoothie use.
  • Another option is to pour room temperature coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze them for later. This is a great option because then you are able to make the smoothie anytime youd like, just know that you may need to add more milk to the coffee smoothie in order to get the ice to blend properly.
  • Make strong instant coffee! Occasionally Ill do this if I dont feel like making a fresh pot of coffee. Simply make a cup of instant coffee like you normally would according to the directions on the package, except add an extra serving of instant coffee granules since youll be adding lots of ice later to cool it down. Once the instant coffee dissolves in warm/hot water, youll immediately transfer it to a large bowl or large glass and add as much ice as you can. This is to cool down the coffee so that you can immediately use it to make your smoothie. Yum!

Do You Add Sweeteners To Smoothies

I dont add any sweeteners besides fruit to my own smoothies, but sometimes my kids want them to be sweeter. I feel like the health benefits of smoothies allow me to add a little sweetener for the kids, so depending on the smoothie, I might add honey, maple syrup, more fruit, fruit juice, sweetened milk, or sweetened yogurt. Sweeten to your liking, but conservative is always best! You can always add more after tasting.

    Best Liquids For Blending

The type of liquid used in a smoothie can change the consistency, flavor and nutrients by a lot. Liquids like water, green tea, and coconut water tend to blend thinner smoothies, while liquids like almond milk, hemp milk, coconut milk, oat milk, and rice milk create creamier smoothies.

    • Water is great at hydrating the body, has zero calories and doesnt alter the taste of a smoothie.
    • Almond Milk is one of the most popular non-dairy alternatives on the market. Its affordable, has a mild taste and is widely available in most grocery stores. Discover our favorite brands of almond milk.
    • Oat Milk is super creamy and has a natural sweet taste. It goes will with berries and bananas and is commonly fortified with vitamins and minerals. Best oat milk brands of the year.
    • Coconut Water is loaded with electrolytes, and is terrific for replenishing electrolytes lost during your workout. It can be an strange taste, so if youre new to coconut water, try doing half coconut water and half regular water in your next smoothie, then increase your ratio as you fall in love.
    • Chilled Tea, like green tea, is great for a natural energy boost as well as metabolism mover. Try herbal teas to soothe the stomach and calm the body.

    Should You Rest Your Smoothies

Letting a smoothie sit tends to make it less frothy, but some smoothies willseparate quickly. For example, almost every green smoothie separates into a layer of green juice atop a chunky greenmixture after a few minutes.

Others fare better from resting. Anything with a lot of light or frothyingredients, or a lot of air whipped up into them, applies.

If you’re in a rush, prepare the ingredients beforehand by chopping andmeasuring them. Start only when you’re ready to eat! You can store ingredientsor even storesmoothies overnight in the fridge, if you’re preparing for an earlymorning!

A thick smoothie can last in the fridge up to 24 hours while retaining itsflavor and texture. Thinner smoothies may separate before then. We prefer todrink immediately, though grabbing a drink prepared the night before is almostas good. To store a smoothie in the fridge, pour it into a tightly sealedcontainer such as a Mason jar. Unless you have a tight, screw-on lid for yourblender bottle, don’t botheryou’ll get better flavor and have an easiertime cleaning up if you store it in something else.

In a pinch, you can put plastic wrap over the top of a glass.

How To Make The Best Banana Smoothie

My basic smoothie recipe calls for four simple ingredients:

Banana I use one banana to make one large or two smaller smoothies. For the best tasting smoothie, use a ripe banana. For the creamiest banana smoothie, use frozen banana slices. Ive shared how I freeze bananas for smoothies below.

Half an orange When I have oranges in the house, I love adding them to my morning smoothie. It adds extra vitamin C and tropical flavor. If you dont have oranges on hand, dont worry, you can substitute other fruits like mango, pineapple, and berries.

Plain or Greek yogurt I dont always add yogurt to my smoothies, but when I do have it in the fridge, adding a spoonful ensures a protein-packed and creamy smoothie. For a smoothie without yogurt, add a little extra fruit or include veggies like spinach or kale.

Water or milk To help the ingredients blend, I like adding a splash of liquid to the blender. For a smoothie without milk, use water. It still tastes amazing. For more creaminess add milk .

To make the smoothie, I add everything into a blender and then blend until smooth. For an icy cold smoothie, throw in a handful of ice or use frozen fruits.

  • Cube the strawberries and slice the bananas, spread them onto a baking sheet and freeze.
  • Once to yogurt, bananas, and strawberries are frozen place them, along with the mango chunks, into a freezer Ziploc bag .
  • FREEZE for up to 3 months. When youre ready to make the smoothie empty the contents of the bag into the blender, add the almond milk and ice cubes. Blend and enjoy!
  • Though smoothies are best eaten right away, you can STORE leftovers for later:

  • Start by adding a bit of lemon juice or Sure Fresh so that the color of the smoothie doesnt brown.

HOW TO MAKE A DELICIOUS FRUIT SMOOTHIE RECIPE

Depending on the strength of your blender , the order you put your ingredients in the blender could influence the overall texture. Heres how we like to layer ingredients into the blender:

  • Liquids go first to make blending easier on the blades.
  • Greens go in next, which will help them to pulverize smoothly.
  • Soft ingredients, like fresh fruit and soft veggies, go next to help the blades start blending.
  • Hard ingredients, like frozen fruit and firm veggies, go last.
  • Start the blender off slowly, then gradually increase the speed. Blend for 30 to 60 seconds until the smoothie is as smooth as possible.
