Peanut Butter Simple Smoothie: This one is a whole big glass of peanut buttery goodness that tastes like dessert but is packed with protein. I cant get over it. Its probably one of my very favorites because I love, love, love peanut butter.

    • There Is No Right Or Wrong Way To Make A Smoothie

These are recipes in a very loose sense of the world. Theyll give you a great place to start, but dont feel like you need to stick with them to make a delicious tasting smoothie. I do very little measuring when I make my daily smoothie and often will just throw in what I have on hand. If you are working with frozen fruit, you probably wont need ice. But if you are using fresh fruit, throw in some ice. A super cold smoothie is best if you ask me. If the smoothie is too thick or not blending well, add more milk.

      Tips For Making Smoothies

Before you get your hands dirty, here are a few tips for blending your most delicious breakfast yet:

      • A smoothie is only as delicious as the produce its made of. If smoothies are going to become a regular part of your diet, farmers market or organic fruits and veggies could make a big difference.
      • Dont use under-ripe fruit. Itll be tougher to blend and less flavorful. In fact, bruised, overripe fruit can bring a lot of sweetness to the glass.
      • Go easy on the ice. Too much = a diluted, slushy smoothie. Try frozen fruit instead.
      • To thicken a smoothie, add soaked flaxseeds, chia seeds, nut butter or protein powder. Without a thickener, your smoothie might have more of a juice-like consistency.
      • Dont over-blend. Be sure to check your smoothies consistency between pulses so its to your liking.
      • Stir the smoothie in the blender before pouring to make sure there arent any ice cubes or fruit chunks stuck at the bottom.
      • If youre worried about your blender losing steam, warm it up with a few pulses on low before turning up the speed. You can also smash ice or frozen fruit in a plastic bag before blending.

Is It Healthy To Have A Smoothie For Breakfast

BEST Green Smoothie Recipe | 5 SIMPLE Ingredients

Smoothies can make a healthy breakfast if you have a good balance of ingredients and nutrientsincluding protein, carbs, and healthy fats. Smoothies that heavily rely on veggies over fruit instantly cut down on sugar and increase the fiber content. You also want to avoid adding a lot of fruit juice and sweeteners, like syrups and honey, to limit the sweet stuff. Adding yogurt and protein powder helps make smoothies more filling, so youll stay satisfied longer. Just be sure to choose powders that have little to no added sugar and have zero artificial ingredients.

The liquid bases you use in your smoothie also play a big role. Skip fruit juices, which are packed with sugar and lack protein and fat, and go for low-fat milk or an unsweetened, non-dairy milk alternative, like almond, coconut, or cashew. Some non-dairy milks have less protein than cows milk, but they offer healthy fats to keep you satiated.

What Do You Put In A Breakfast Smoothie

      • Healthy Fats. Your favorite nut butter, coconut milk, or chia seeds. This makes the smoothie more satisfying and keeps you full between meals. Keep portions in mind I usually add about 1 tablespoon.
      • Protein and Fiber Additions. Greek yogurt or your favorite protein powder are easy ways to make breakfast protein smoothies. A tablespoon of oatmeal adds fiber.
      • Fruit. Breakfast fruit smoothies are always a crowd-pleasing choice. Strawberries and blueberries are my go-tos. Bananas make smoothies naturally sweet. Mango and pineapple can hide the taste of greens. Unexpected fruits like apples or watermelon can be scrumptious too.
      • Vegetables. Spinach, kale, avocado, carrots, and even beets can all be added to smoothies.
      • Flavor Additions. Vanilla, cinnamon, honey, maple syrup, and dates are all excellent ways to give your smoothie more flavor.
      • Liquid. Unsweetened almond milk is my favorite for smoothies. You can also use juice , a different kind of milk, coconut water, or even plain water.

How To Make The Best Banana Smoothie

My basic smoothie recipe calls for four simple ingredients:

Banana I use one banana to make one large or two smaller smoothies. For the best tasting smoothie, use a ripe banana. For the creamiest banana smoothie, use frozen banana slices. Ive shared how I freeze bananas for smoothies below.

Half an orange When I have oranges in the house, I love adding them to my morning smoothie. It adds extra vitamin C and tropical flavor. If you dont have oranges on hand, dont worry, you can substitute other fruits like mango, pineapple, and berries.

Plain or Greek yogurt I dont always add yogurt to my smoothies, but when I do have it in the fridge, adding a spoonful ensures a protein-packed and creamy smoothie. For a smoothie without yogurt, add a little extra fruit or include veggies like spinach or kale.

Water or milk To help the ingredients blend, I like adding a splash of liquid to the blender. For a smoothie without milk, use water. It still tastes amazing. For more creaminess add milk .

To make the smoothie, I add everything into a blender and then blend until smooth. For an icy cold smoothie, throw in a handful of ice or use frozen fruits.

Do You Add Sweeteners To Smoothies

I dont add any sweeteners besides fruit to my own smoothies, but sometimes my kids want them to be sweeter. I feel like the health benefits of smoothies allow me to add a little sweetener for the kids, so depending on the smoothie, I might add honey, maple syrup, more fruit, fruit juice, sweetened milk, or sweetened yogurt. Sweeten to your liking, but conservative is always best! You can always add more after tasting.

      The Best Apple Smoothie Recipes

Drinking smoothies is a fun and delicious way to get the energy and nutrients your body needs to thrive. Smoothies are quick and easy to blend up and drink, making them your ideal on-the-go solution to skipping your morning breakfast.

When made with wholesome ingredients, smoothies are also a great alternative to highly processed snacks that are often loaded with added sugar, sodium, and saturated and trans fats.

      Why Apples?

While you might not think to add apple to a smoothie, they make a great addition! Apples are good sources of vitamin C and polyphenols, both of which have antioxidant functions.

Antioxidants help combat free radicals, or reactive oxygen molecules, in the body, preventing damage to cells that contributes to inflammation and health conditions like cancer, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. The specific antioxidants in apples include quercetin, which has been shown to improve brain function.

Vitamin C is also needed to maintain and repair healthy connective tissue and plays a central role in wound healing and immune system function. They also contain potassium, which relaxes blood vessels and can reduce high blood pressure.

      Autoimmune Disease Healthy Journey:

3 Summer Smoothie Recipes | Quick Easy Breakfast Ideas

Here is where I am going to get a little personal. I was a healthy and active girl when I got hit with an autoimmune disease that rocked my world. I visited the doctor and he performed an insane amount of blood tests to figure out what was going on with my body.

I was dealing with the debilitating effects of several autoimmune diseases — rheumatoid arthritis and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis diseases, among others.

I didn’t think I would be dealing with arthritis in my 30’s! My weight had even skyrocketed for no apparent reason .

After many blood tests confirmed I was dealing with several autoimmune issues, I was referred to both a rheumatologist and endocrinologist to deal with the effects of my immune system going haywire. The specialists wanted to put me on a host of medications to help with the swelling and inflammation, all with a list of negative side effects. I felt as if I was ALWAYS at the doctor. I didn’t want to just put on a band-aid.

I went home and my husband and I just sobbed together on the couch , afraid of what the future might hold. After a good cry, I felt determined to figure out what the ROOT cause of my health issues was. I started studying like crazy. I began driving around to every library in town, picking up stacks of health books, and researching everything I could about my disease. I became a full-on nerd!

Here are some of the healing vitamins, herbs and supplements that have helped me with my autoimmune diseases:
