How To Make A Smoothie With Frozen Fruit

Fruit And Yogurt Smoothie

To make your frozen fruit smoothie, youll need just three simple ingredients.

  • Milk. You need this liquid to be able to help the frozen fruit blend. You can use whatever kind of milk you prefer- dairy or non-dairy.
  • Yogurt. This makes the smoothie creamy and also adds a probiotic boost! Again, you can use whatever kind of yogurt you enjoy. I love using my easy homemade yogurt!
  • Frozen fruit. As Ive already said, this is what makes the smoothie delightfully thick. And the flavor combinations are endless!

Once you have your ingredients, add the milk and yogurt to the blender. Adding these easy-to-blend foods first will help make it easier for the blender to do its job.

Add your fruit and blend!

If you have a high powered blender, there should be no problems. But if you are using a regular blender, you may notice that it is struggling to work.

If that is the case, stop! You dont want to blow up the motor.

You can either add more milk/yogurt to make the smoothie easier to blend or you can just wait for 10 minutes or so and allow the fruit to soften a bit.

Cool Down The Fruit And Yogurt Smoothie With Frozen Pulp

Fruit and yogurt smoothies are chilly and slightly slushy. Theres absolutely nothing thats worse than sipping a warm smoothie. To cool things down, more fruit is added by way of a frozen fruit pulp. If this product isnt easily found in your regular grocery store, take a jaunt to your local Hispanic, African, or Asian market. Because its a popular food item in those cuisines, youre likely to find it the frozen food sections of their stores.

You can also use frozen fruits such as berries or peaches. Whole strawberries or sliced peaches are hard, so allow them to thaw on the countertop for 10 minutes prior to blending them. You can add blueberries or raspberries directly to the blender from the freezer because theyre so small.

Add the frozen fruit pulp and the fresh, cut fruit to a high-powered blender. The fresh fruit should be closer to the blade to act as a catalyst for the harder frozen fruit.

Here Are Other Fruit Options

As I mentioned earlier, my fresh fruit is a massive mango. Because this recipe serves 4, Im in need of at least 2 cups of fresh fruit. Here are some ideas to use as a springboard to which fruit you should use:

  • Berries
  • Banana
  • Papaya
  • Melons

Because watermelon is so watery, and doesnt have a prominent flavor, I wouldnt include it in the melon option. I stay away from apples and pears for the same reason. On the other end of the spectrum, citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit, have too much flavor and acidity and, as a result, should also be avoided in this recipe.

How To Make Smoothies Without Yogurt

Figuring out how to make smoothies without yogurt is easy as long as youve got a few replacement ingredients on hand. First off, one of the king substitutes for yogurt in smoothies has to be coconut milk. It is full of fat and gives you that nice creamy texture that you get from typical yogurt smoothies. Also, it gives you a nice little undertone of coconut and sweetness so you dont need to add extra sugar.

You can also stock up on nut milks like almond milk, cashew milk, and hazelnut milk. Additionally, for people who can handle soy, you can also utilize soy milk. Although the milks are thinner in consistency than yogurt, you still get that creaminess when you whip them up with other ingredients. Additionally, using nut butter will give you amazing flavors, healthy fats, and protein as well as that super creaminess.

And finally lets not forget the star ingredients of our smoothies: fruits and veggies. But all fruits and veggies are not created equally when it comes to consistency. Some have a lot more water while others give you more starches that can result in a creamy consistency when they are mixed up in a blender. Avocadoes are fantastic for smoothies due to their fat content and texture. Additionally, frozen bananas, zucchini, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes can also be added to smoothie recipes without yogurt to get that silky texture you crave.

Is Greek Yogurt Good In Smoothies

Yes! What I love about making smoothie recipes with Greek yogurt is the added protein. Greek yogurt typically has around 10 15 g of protein per half cup, depending on the brand. Depending on the flavor, it will have sugar and carbs too, so watch for that. If you are drinking a smoothie as a post workout drink your body needs the carbs so fruit and yogurt can provide them. A Greek yogurt fruit smoothie makes a great post-workout recovery drink!

How Do You Make A Mixed Berry Smoothie

    Vanilla Yogurt Fruit Smoothie Recipe

This mixed berry smoothie is simply frozen berries, banana, vanilla Greek yogurt, liquid of your choice, and sweetener if you desire. I buy bags of mixed frozen berries and always have a few in the freezer for when a smoothie craving strikes. I typically make these smoothies with apple juice as it eliminates the need to add any sweetener later on. Other liquid choices are skim milk, almond milk, coconut milk or even a cranberry juice would be nice. When I do sweeten smoothies, I typically reach for a little honey. Like I said, its really not needed here if youre using juice, but you may want to add some if you go with a less sweet liquid like skim milk.

I have an insanely picky 3 year old, and on days when I cant get her to eat more than 2 bites of anything, these mixed berry smoothies are a lifesaver. Nutrients, protein, fiber and they happen to be her favorite color, bright pink! So while this may be a simple recipe, its definitely worthy of sharing for all of you out there who are trying to get your families to eat healthier. Hope you enjoy!
