How To Make Smoothies Thicker
Youll notice in a lot of my smoothie recipes that I opt to use frozen fruit rather than ice. While ice is nice in adding instant chill and bulk to smoothies, Ive found that it makes them too watery .
Instead, I like to freeze fruit and throw that into the smoothie to make it thicker and more frosty. In this Strawberry Banana Smoothie, were using frozen strawberries for their convenience and cost efficiency, but you can also peel, chop, and freeze your bananas ahead of time for smoothies. I like to do this with my soon-to-go-bad bananas to give them a second shot at life.

The first best thing you can love about smoothies is how you can make it into a lot of variations of your favorite fruits. You can add greens too, like kale for a unique taste.
If you are not the veggie-eating kind of a person but wanted to be healthy at the same time, why not make a smoothie with veggies in them. Because its so rich and smooth, you wont even notice or taste the vegetables at all.
Secondly, its so easy to make and flexible. You can make it from the most basic ingredients or lavish it with ice cream and protein powder.
I add low-fat milk most of the time and also tried adding coconut water or fruit juices for added booze. Mixing in yogurt is just not my cup of tea. So each time I make smoothies, I do them sans yogurt.
But dont get me wrong. I like yogurt, just not with smoothies. Yogurt is in fact good. Its a good source of calcium, protein, Vitamin D, and probiotics that are good for your digestive system.
The fruits in these recipes are available whole year round at your local groceries.

What Is The Best Liquid To Use In A Smoothie
In my opinion, the best liquid to use for smoothies is milk or a milk substitute. Theyre healthier and help maintain the consistency of your smoothie without watering down the flavor.
I much prefer them over water or juice. Water tends to water down your smoothie too much.
Juice adds unnecessary sugar to a recipe that should be a healthy one. Plus, most smoothie recipes are sweet enough to taste good without the added sugar.
How To Make This Peach Smoothie Vegan
You can make this smoothie vegan by substituting the yogurt with a vegan yogurt of half a banana to maintain the same thickness without losing the flavor.
Almond milk can be substituted with other vegan milk substitutes, such as coconut milk, almond milk, or soy milk if you prefer different milk flavors. Almond milk is preferred, as it is creamier and sweeter than the other alternatives.

Cooks Tips And Recipe Variations:
- Using frozen fruit is the key to a thick, creamy smoothie. I like to slice overripe bananas, wrap them individually, and then stash them in the freezer to grab for smoothies whenever we need them.
- You can start with fresh peaches , you can freeze canned peaches , or you can purchase a bag of unsweetened frozen peaches in the freezer section at the grocery store.
- Use orange juice instead of milk for a bright, fresh burst of citrus flavor.
- We use vanilla flavored or peach flavored Greek-style yogurt, but you can substitute with plain Greek yogurt to reduce the amount of sugar in the smoothie. If youre using plain yogurt, I suggest adding a dash of vanilla extract for flavor, as well as a bit of honey or other sweetener of choice .
- I use 2% milk in the smoothies because thats what my boys prefer however, you can substitute with any variety of milk or non-dairy milk alternative .
- Make a Green Peach Smoothie by adding a handful of baby spinach leaves to the blender. It wont change the taste of the smoothie, but it will add some great nutrients!

Georgia Peach Smoothie Recipe Paired With Martins Big Words
I always want to be sure to talk to my daughter about different aspects of history, difficult times, and the important people in it.
So it was clear that we would read about Martin Luther King, Jr. as one of our childrens books and theme recipes pairing.
One of our favorite books has become written by Doreen Rappaport and illustrated by Bryan Collier.
We read it a couple of times each year and especially make sure to read it on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Because of the significance of King and his journey, I wanted a childrens book that was accurate and not filled with fluff that dodges the difficult issues.
After reading the synopsis online, this biographical book seemed to fill that.
The book starts with King as a child and his understanding of racism and moves all the way through significant events in his life to his death.
I love that the book incorporates different quotes from King within the story and covers the importance of the civil rights movement in a basic way without getting too detailed and going over childrens heads.
There are fantastic watercolors that fill each page, also.
Listed Book Age Range: 5-8 years
Since this is such a serious and important topic, it was hard to come up with a recipe to pair with this book.
However, in a nod to Dr. Kings birthplace of Atlanta, we decided to make a Georgia peach smoothie.
We made our peach smoothie without yogurt, but you can also make this peach smoothie with yogurt for a creamier version.

Using Unsweetened Almond Milk
Unsweetened almond milk is the best dairy-free milk for this keto berry smoothie. Let me tell you why I love to use almond milk in my keto berry smoothie.
Note that the sugar in this recipe comes naturally from berries.
Berries are the lowest sugar, and fructose content and therefore are approved on a keto low-carb diet in moderation.
If you love this frozen berry smoothie recipe, then I recommend trying my mixed berry smoothie with almond milk!
Dont Forget The Liquid

While the above thickeners are good alternatives to yogurt, dont forget to add liquid to your smoothie or youll end up with a glob and jam your blenders blades. Dont worry about adding milk. Coconut milk, water, juice, or even spiced chai tea can add flavor and texture balance without the dairy.

How Do You Substitute Yogurt In Smoothies
Traditionally, a smoothie combines fruits, veggies, or other ingredients and thickening agents. The thickening agents can be yogurt, heavy cream, ice, or other elements that a smoothie has, but an ice slushie doesnt.
It is also what makes a smoothie, well, smooth and creamy. But if you choose to leave out the yogurt, here are some ways to make one without it:
Consider Adding Vanilla Protein Powder
If you want to add some extra protein to your smoothie, consider adding vanilla protein powder.
Protein powder is typically added to workout shakes, but it can also be added to fruit smoothies as well.
Some people like the flavor that protein powder adds to their strawberry banana smoothie, so if you enjoy the flavor, add some!
Dont forget the ice cubes! Ice cubes provide the thickness and creaminess thats needed for a smoothie.

Grape Smoothie Recipe Without Yogurt
Ingredients
- Fresh Almond Milk 1 cup
- Blueberries 1 cup
Everybody can benefit more plant based nutrition in their diets and almond milk is a great alternative to traditional milk. Lets Prepare Almond Milk first.
You need to soak one cup of raw preferable organic almond in some cold filtered water. Its better to soak it for one to two days in water. Be aware, once almonds have soaked, they will absorb some of that water and they will get really plump. We need to drain out the soaking liquid and get the almonds in the blender. Now make sure of keeping this in proportion, every one cup of almond needs four cups of water. Blend it for a minute and a half until all the almonds have broken and you can see a nice light creamy almond milk. After blending, filter it with a nice cheesecloth and press all the milk out of the almond juice.
