A Note On Thickening Smoothies

Strawberry Mango Smoothie

Im of the general smoothie philosophy that a thick smoothie is a happy, satisfying smoothie if its not thick, instead of feeling like Im enjoying a substantial breakfast or snack, I feel like Im drinking juice. Its not the same.

This is why all of my healthy smoothie recipes involve some kind of thickening agent. If youd like to make a smoothie thicker, here are a few tricks:

If you try a few of these tricks and your smoothie is ULTRA thick at the endtoo thick to sip with a strawpour it into a bowl, top it with some granola and fresh fruit, and enjoy it as a strawberry mango smoothie bowl.

For a strawberry mango protein smoothie, add a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder. This will thicken the smoothie a tiny bit too.

Variation: Make It Plant Based / Vegan

Strawberry Mango Smoothie

There are actually two versions of this strawberry mango smoothie we love! The main version uses milk and yogurt, which helps to make it filling with extra protein. But you can also make it vegan! The vegan variation has less protein and is all fruit: but sometimes were in the mood for that too. The flavor is so sweet and fruity! Heres what to do to make a vegan version of this smoothie:

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries

all about orangesall about mangoesall about strawberries

The must haves are strawberries and mango. We also add a banana for extra creaminess, but the mango actually adds a creaminess on its own. We then add in orange juice, about a cup. We add a little water to some fresh squeezed orange juice to water it down since were only using fruits. Another option is to use a fresh orange instead of the orange juice, it will still taste delicious, just not as sweet, and it will also have more pulp.

We like to use fresh strawberries, frozen mango, frozen bananas, and then the juice. We find that this combination results in a thick and creamy smoothie. Its not too thick like a nice cream and its not too thin like a whole juice, its just right!

This is a delicious smoothie as is, that being said you can add even more nutrients by adding your favorite protein powder, chia seeds, hemp hearts, or leafy greens. This smoothie can definitely be a delicious base for other added ingredients.

Fruits And Veggies Smoothie

Making smoothie at home is really easy. You really just need your favorite fruits and vegetables. Its an excellent way of using fruits and veggies quickly if they are too ripe or spoiling soon. There will be some combination that tastes better than others, but everyones preference is a bit different. My daughter loves berry smoothies while my son loves chocolate based ones. In general I love all kinds of smoothies but one of my favorite treat is green tea smoothie.

After many trials and errors, I figured out what combination of fruits each of us likes to blend together. When we dont have fresh fruits, I always keep some frozen berry mix in the freezer as backup. When you use frozen fruits, you dont need to add ice to the smoothie as they are already cold. If you want recommendations, I typically use strawberries, apple, banana, chia seeds, blueberries, raspberries, carrots, kale, and orange for my smoothies.

I love to use my Vitamix to blend smoothies totally smooth and creamy. Any high-speed blender will work.

Here’s what you need to make this creamy strawberry smoothie:

  • Strawberries. You can use fresh or frozen, but frozen gives you a creamier texture.
  • Mango. Same here frozen mango is delicious and adds thickness to your smoothie.
  • Cashew butter. You can use a different nut butter if you prefer, but I like the mild flavor of cashew.
  • Yogurt. I love plain coconut yogurt to keep this smoothie dairy-free. But regular or greek yogurt also work.
  • Coconut water. This is super hydrating.
  • Almond milk. Feel free to use a different milk if you prefer!

How to make Mango Strawberry Smoothie

Sure, you can throw strawberries and mango into the blender and come up with a smoothie. But will it be the best strawberry mango smoothie? To get just the right blend of flavors and a creamy texture, heres what we recommend:

  • Frozen strawberries: Frozen berries make just the right icy texture. You can also use fresh berries, but make sure to use frozen mango.
  • Frozen mango: Frozen mango is our favorite because its easy to find at the grocery and store for when a craving strikes. You can also use fresh mango, but then use frozen strawberries.
  • Greek yogurt: Yogurt lends a creamy texture and loads of protein! Its also got probiotics, which help with gut health.
  • Banana: The banana helps to make a creamy texture and adds the final sweetness.
  • Milk & ice: Milk helps it all blend, and ice makes it a little fluffier.
  • Fresh lemon juice: The kicker? Lemon juice amps all the flavors just enough.

How To Make This Strawberry Mango Banana Smoothie

This smoothie is crazy easy to make. My recommendations are to have a really nice, high powered blender . This will allow you to get the best consistency.

  • Add all ingredients to a high speed, high powered blender and blend on medium or medium high until smooth.
  • Check for consistency and add additional coconut water or liquid if its too thick. Add additional ice or frozen fruit if its too thin.
  • Pour into a glass. Garnish with fresh fruit if desired and enjoy immediately.
  • SMOOTHIE BOWL INSTRUCTIONS: To make a Strawberry Mango Smoothie Bowl, simple reduce the coconut water to 1/4 cup. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the blender as necessary to ensure that all of the fruit gets blended in.

Add the liquid in first, then the fresh fruit and then the frozen fruit into the blender when adding ingredients in.

If you like your smoothies thinner then you can thaw out the fruit before you blend them.

Use a good blender. A cheap blender will not give you the smoothie results that you want and might not be able to handle blending frozen fruits. I personally love my ninja blender.

How To Make A Strawberry Mango Smoothie

I chose to blend the mango smoothie mix and the frozen strawberry smoothie mix separately so they could be swirled together right before serving. I did this mainly because I find it so aesthetically pleasing , but if youre short on time, please feel free to blend everything together in one batch. They will be equally delicious but may lose a few pretty points since you wont have the vibrant color duo shining through your glass.

This mango strawberry smoothie recipe is made up of fresh fruity flavors, a kick of bright citrus, and not much else. Feel free to add a tablespoon of sugar or honey to the smoothie base, if you prefer a very sweet treat, or leave it as is for a naturally delicious drink.

Final words: Make a batch of these today! Theyre creamy, dreamy, and ferociously refreshing on a hot Summer day.

How to make a STRAWBERRY & MANGO SMOOTHIE Tutorial!

Im a bigggggg fan of smoothies. If youve ever peeped then you probably notice that I think a lot of them. Smoothies are one of those things that are so easy to make, healthy, nutritious and taste amazing!

Many Strawberry Mango Smoothie recipes tend to be made with yogurt or milk in them, but were keeping this recipe today entirely dairy-free. Instead this smoothie uses coconut water as the liquid for blending, which has a mild, slightly sweet and caramel-like flavour to it.

This smoothie can also easily be made into a Strawberry Mango Bowl if thats your jam. Just double the amount of fruit, use frozen instead of fresh strawberries and use a good quality high-speed blender or food processor to blend it all together.

    Strawberries A Powerhouse Smoothie Ingredient

Did you know that strawberries actually have more vitamin C than oranges? It’s true! These sweet berries shine in this strawberry mango smoothie recipe, both in flavor and in nutrients.

Strawberries are also low in sugar + high in fiber, which makes them a great smoothie addition for anyone who is watching their blood sugar levels. The fiber helps avoid a blood sugar rush, as well as keep your levels more stable. They are naturally sweet, so they are a great sweet treat in a smoothie, or straight off the stem.

    Make Ahead And Storage Tips

    • To Make Ahead. Prepare the smoothie as directed, and pour it into an airtight freezer-safe glass jar. Store the jar in the freezer for up to 3 months. Let the smoothie thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving. The texture will change somewhat, but its a viable option if you want to prep ahead. I also like to pour smoothies into ice cube trays, then take them to go.
    • To Store. Blended strawberry mango smoothies can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.

    • Banana can be fresh or frozen, but should be ripe for maximum sweetness
    • Frozen strawberries & mango can be switched for fresh versions. If none of the ingredients are frozen you might want to add an ice cube while mixing to keep the smoothie really cold.

How To Make A Thick Smoothie

Making a thick smoothie is all about using some frozen ingredients in the smoothie. If you use all fresh ingredients, you wont end up with a thick and creamy smoothie. Frozen fruit is also better to use than ice, since ice can dilute the smoothie and leave it tasting a bit bland.

You can also add less liquid to a smoothie to help make it thicker, or a teaspoon of chia seeds, which are very absorbant and can help make a smoothie thicker.

Refreshing smoothies are synonymous with warm Summer mornings. In the past Ive created several smoothies inspired by decadent desserts, but todays smoothie recipe is actually inspired by one of my favorite adult beverages: the margarita!

I wanted to create a smoothie or mocktail, as my little brother might call it that was healthy, pretty, and guaranteed to quench your thirst. Basically I wanted to make you a margarita thats totally acceptable to slurp down at 8 am.

I was also on a mother trucking mission to make a smoothie recipe that didnt call for frozen banana. < Many of you have requested this in the past I was listening

Friends, meet the Strawberry Mango Smoothie! Isnt she a beaut?

This smoothie was 100% inspired by these Raspberry Mango Margaritas. I decided to play off of that idea, ditch the raspberry in favor of strawberry, ditch the booze in favor of fresh squeezed orange juice , and test test test.
