How to Make Frozen Yogurt Smoothie

Even with such a seemingly basic recipe, theres actually a trick that makes some strawberry smoothies taste better than others.

The trick is to use frozen strawberries instead of adding ice, because this will result in a thicker and creamier smoothie with a much deeper strawberry flavor.

If using fresh strawberries, just cut off the stems and freeze them beforehand, or you can buy the berries already frozen. Before blending, thaw them just enough so they arent rock hard and can be easily blended.

Choose Your Liquid Smoothie Base

Add 1 cup of any of the following liquids as your smoothie base.

If using tea, youll have to brew it first or steep the bags in hot water before transferring the liquid into the blender.

Occasionally youll find green tea powders more convenient as youll only have to pour the contents into the blender and blend it with the rest of the ingredients.

Non-dairy milk alone is likely to thin out the smoothie, so it is necessary to couple it with fillers that will help thicken the consistency.

Finally, with water kefir, it is somewhat thinner than a yogurt yet more forgiving on people who have lactose intolerances and allergies due to its incredible strain.

Bear in mind that coconut milk from a can has a significant amount of calories, so if you choose this option, you can probably avoid adding any nuts, or other high calorie foods to your smoothie.

That said, heres a list of liquid bases you can use for your smoothies:

  • Water

Happy Valentines Day! I hope youre all enjoying your day and that its filled with hearts, flowers, love, and CHOCOLATE!

Valentines fun aside, my kiddos and I have been a little under the weather for the past couple of days.

Sore throats, runny noses, not sleeping wellall of which leads to just feeling plain ole exhausted. This is my baby girls first time ever being sick. Iit makes me so sad to see her feeling all puny, and listening to her little baby snuffles.

My son is the same way. Whenever he gets sick, its ALWAYS in his chest. He will wake up coughing and crying, and sometimes we just have to spend the night sitting in the bathroom with the hot water turned on while the steam works its magic. After a night like that, we need a little whole food healing power.

I love smoothies for breakfast during the week, and theyre especially great when youre not feeling well and dont have much of an appetite. Even if regular-chewable food doesnt seem all that palatable, a nice cold smoothie is a great way to make sure youre still getting some good nutrition. Plus its a little easier on a sore throat than your typical breakfast fare.

Hope this finds you in happy, healthy spirits wherever you are. And if youve got a little case of the winter sickies, give this smoothie a try. It might just help kick that cold to the curb.

It is also what makes a smoothie, well, smooth and creamy. But if you choose to leave out the yogurt, here are some ways to make one without it:

They May Stop Snack Attacks

Scientists have recently found that strawberries may reduce blood sugar spikes. These high-low sugar spikes cause cravings and affect mood, so by adding more strawberries to your diet you can avoid these feelings, reducing the temptation to snack on naughty bits.

Its suspected that the high levels of antioxidant polyphenols are responsible, which also help out the body in other ways. However, these studies were done in a test tube so more research is needed to prove that the same effect would happen in people.

Make A Coconut Smoothie

Coconuts flesh is among the most versatile plant-based foods that you can eat, and its also ideal for your smoothies!

While many of you will argue that coconut is a fruit, its variety of applications in meal preparation makes it impossible to be categorized as such.

The fiber content found in coconut meat is comparable to that of most fruits at 14% of the daily dietary allowance.

And despite its 60% fat content, coconut flakes are zero cholesterol and low in sodium.

Protein in forms of 18 amino acids can also be found in coconut meat, further making it nutrient-dense edible plant food.

Depending on how it is prepared, dried coconut can have more or less 130 calories per ¼ cup serving although the other nutrients it contains as well as those of the rest of ingredients can easily offset this amount.

Adding coconut by-products such as butter, cream, shreds, and flour to your smoothies can give you a rich texture that is occasionally grainy, yet easily drinkable.

Below is a list of coconut derivatives that you can add to your smoothie at a ¼ cup per single serving of the beverage.

How Do You Make A Smoothie Thicker

Strawberry Banana Smoothie with Greek Yogurt

One last thing to address in this post is how to make a smoothie thicker.

Smoothies in my opinion are all about texture.

I absolutely do not like runny, gritty smoothies.

I prefer my smoothies to be super thick and creamy, almost to ice cream texture.

This way it feels like a treat when I am drinking it!

If your kids love those expensive bottles of drinkable yogurt at the grocery store or youre looking for a super simple smoothie recipe, you have to try this one. This Strawberry Smoothie recipe with yogurt has just 3 ingredients and can even be made ahead!

How To Store And Reheat Your Mango Smoothie / Lassi

If you dont plan on drinking your smoothie right away, make sure to store it in an airtight container . Your drink will become soggy if left exposed to the air. I recommend that you wait until youre ready to have your smoothie before placing your ice cubes in the blender.

It is better to blend all of your other ingredients initially and then add the ice a little bit at a time. Otherwise, if you put all the ice cubes in first, your drink will become too watery.

This mango smoothie recipe can be made the night before for breakfast or as a healthy snack. To reheat your mango smoothie, place it in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes until the ice cubes are melted, and you can enjoy it cold again.

A NOTE ON THE AMOUNT OF MILK:

I used 2% milk, and it turned out just OK. However, you should only use fat-free/skim milk so that your drink remains thick.

Berry Yogurt Smoothie Ingredients

Berries: It all starts with frozen berries. Any type will do. As you can see, Ive used a mix of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. It was a berry mix that I picked up in the grocery stores freezer section. Any combination works well here. Mix and match your favorites, or use all of one kind if you prefer.

Yogurt: Next, add in your unsweetened non-dairy yogurt of choice. Use plain or vanilla flavored. If using the plain flavor, you may like to add a splash of vanilla extract or ½ teaspoon of ground vanilla to the mixture before mixing.

Banana: To add a banana or not? Ive made this smoothie both ways, with and without a banana, and I must say the one with the banana was the better of the two. I used a room temp banana, which added extra creaminess and made it slightly less icy. It will also add some bulk and extra added nutrition. If you have one on hand, by all means, add it in!

Non-Dairy Milk: Lastly, youll want to add about ½ cup of unsweetened non-dairy milk or water to help get everything moving in the mixer, adding an extra splash or two as needed.

Toppings: Some optional toppings to consider are frozen berries, granola, cocoa nibs, and coconut flakes, to name a few.

How To Make A Smoothie Without Yogurt Or Milk

How to make a smoothie without yogurt or ice cream

I have a house full of picky eaters, so sometimes smoothies are the only way that I can get protein into my younger two. Not to mention vegetables.

Smoothies are one of our go-to breakfasts and snacks because everyone loves them and I can sneak in all the protein and veggies I want. But sometimes we run out of milk or yogurt.

On those days, I fall back on some of my favorite substitutions to make sure we still have our favorite healthy treat. Im going to share some good substitutes for milk and yogurt that still preserve the taste and texture of your smoothie.

Should I Put Yogurt In My Smoothie

A lot of smoothie shops and restaurants use ice cream to create that signature flavor and texture.

Kim and I drink a lot of smoothies and the idea of eating that much ice cream on a regular basis would do a number on our health.

So, we started using yogurts and frozen fruit to re-create the same texture without all the added sugar and fat.

In closing, if the choice comes down to yogurt or ice cream, then yes, you should put yogurt in your smoothies.

How To Make Strawberry Banana Smoothie

  • First, put the liquid and the yogurt in the blender. I always like to put the liquid in first because I feel like it blends together better.
  • Second, top it all off with the fruit.
  • Now, blend everything until smooth.
  • Finally, add ice if you need it to make it thicker or colder. Blend again until it is the desired consistency.
  • Tip- Sometimes you need to blend it once more to get any extra chunks out of it.

    How To Make It

  • Put the ingredients in a blender and whir it up!
  • This will make two large smoothies.
  • Unlike baking recipes, for instance, smoothie recipes do not have to use exact measurements. You can adjust according to taste. The only difference in choosing between fresh or frozen fruit is how thick you want it to be. Frozen will make for a more milkshake-thick smoothie, whereas fresh will get thickened up slightly by the ice, but have a more liquidy texture. Or you can combine frozen and fresh fruit.

You can use any kind of soft fruit you want, such as berries, bananas, peeled peaches or nectarines, melons, even grapes, and puree, and know you can always add a bit more fruit or ice to thicken it or a bit more milk to thin it out.

    How To Hull Strawberries:

The hull is the green leafy cap at the top of a strawberry. We hull strawberries to keep the color consistent in the smoothie. Hulling a strawberry is easy using a small pairing knife, make a circular cut around the top, aiming towards the center to remove the top like a cork.

A strawberry huller makes this job really quick and easy with minimal waste since you remove the hull with one circular motion and you dont have to cut away any portion of the strawberry flesh.

    Flavor Variations And Add

Throw the ingredients into a blender and whiz them into a beautiful creamy puree: and youve got an oatmeal smoothie! Take one sip and it tastes remarkably likewell, oatmeal. The cinnamon is key to the oatmeal vibe. Here are a few more tweaks to this banana oatmeal smoothie you can do to vary it up:

    • Customize the cinnamon: Weve listed a range in the recipe below. Use the ½ teaspoon cinnamon for a very forward spiced flavor.
    • Vary the nut butter: Use any type of nut butter in place of the peanut butter, like almond butter, cashew butter, or pecan butter.
    • Addchai spices: Substitute cozy chai spices for the cinnamon.
