How To Make Smoothie Bowls

Making a Green Smoothie with The Omniblend V Blender

Some mornings you may not want to drink your smoothie, instead grab a spoon and make a smoothie bowl. All of these recipes can be made into a bowl, simply use less liquid so that the smoothie comes out thicker. Then add all your favorite toppings. Some favorites include:

  • Fresh fruit like peaches, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, pineapples, and mango
  • Nuts and seeds like chia seeds, hemp seeds, almonds, cashews, walnuts, and pepitas
  • Crunchy toppings like granola, grape nuts, toasted oats, or shredded coconut
  • Fun drizzles with peanut butter, almond butter, low sugar chocolate syrup, or yogurt.

How To Choose The Right Type Of Blender Jar For You

When it comes to the blender jar, people may have preferences. I prefer glass, but my hubby loves plastic. These are the most common types of jars available.

  • Plastic Plastic jars are usually made of sturdy and durable Tritan. Tritan is shatterproof and dishwasher safe. It is also long-lasting. Plastic does tend to lose its clear color after time. It can also scratch, creating crevices where germs can hide. I always check that the manufacturer has stated that the plastic is BPA-free.
  • Glass Glass is heavier than plastic and may not suit everyone. It will break if dropped! I always look for Boro glass, which is an extremely durable tempered glass. It does not shatter nor break. It is also dishwasher safe, BPA-free, and does not absorb odors. Glass jars always look clean and have a classic vintage appeal. Glass retains its clear appearance much longer than plastic.
  • Stainless Steel Stainless Steel is also a great option. It will never tarnish nor lose its shiny finish. Stainless Steel does not absorb odors and does not encourage the growth of bacteria. Very few blenders come with Stainless Steel as the main container. It makes it difficult to see what is happening inside as you blend. You will find that some models have extra on-the-go jars that are Stainless Steel, a great perk!

Blender Care And Maintenance

If you find that your blender is having a difficult time processing ingredients, dont be afraid to be aggressive with the tamper to get the mixture moving around the blades. Also, make sure the blender jar is at least 25% full. Although high speeds will help process smoother mixtures, a lower speed may also help ingredients start circulating if they just arent moving. When youre following a recipe, its also good to add ingredients in the order listed blender recipe books tend to be specific with the order .

To limit the risk of hot liquids shooting out the top of a blending jar, always start on a low setting and slowly increase the speed . Never fill the jar past the hot-liquid fill line. And for good measure, to limit the risk of the lid popping off, place a dish towel over the lid, with your hand firmly holding the lid down, while you blend.

Hand wash the blending jar with warm, soapy water rather than running it through the dishwasher. This will help extend the life of the jar. In our own testing, we found that the best way to clean a blender jar is to use a bottle brush or a scrub brush processing water and a little soap in the blender jar will help loosen up tough ingredients such as peanut butter, and the brush should do the rest.

Best Overall: Vitamix E310 Explorian Blender

3 Types of Blenders: Applications, Jars Types, & More

If you’re willing to spend a little more on a professional-grade blender like a Vitamix, then you’re in for a treat. The E310 Explorian Blender has a 48-ounce container that’s great for prepping smoothies for the entire week or for the whole family. The blender features 10 speeds, plus a pulse function that allows you to get the right consistency for smoothies, soups, and more. Instead of putting all the parts in the dishwasher, utilize the self-cleaning feature that thoroughly cleans the blender in just 30 seconds. All you’ll need is a drop of dish soap and warm water, then run the blender until it’s clean.

Despite the high price point, the Vitamix blender has a dedicated following of loyal fans who love its versatility and power. “So far, I’ve used it for grinding coffee beans, making bulletproof coffee every morning, a smoothie every afternoon, and yesterday I made cauliflower rice in it for a recipe,” says one customer. “It comes with a tamper to push things down if needed and that has worked great. I’m looking forward to donating my previous cheap blender, my coffee grinder, and hand blender. I’ve already gotten rid of my food processor. This appliance may cost more, but it can do SO many things, I believe it’s totally worth it.”

Kitchenaid Diamond Smoothie Blenders

The KitchenAid Diamond Blender has classic styling and features a large 60-ounce pitcher. Its large enough to have company over for a smoothie but not so huge its silly to make a single smoothie. It features five speeds selectable via soft press on the front panel. This type of button is long-lasting and easy to clean. A steel-reinforced coupler between the pitcher and the base is a nice touch that will help extend the life of this component.

The base is a sturdy die-cast metal that adds a lot of stability, and the pitcher has clear, embossed measurement markings that wont wear off or fade over time.

Even though there are a lot of good qualities to the pitcher and it is BPA-free, the plastic will never have the longevity that glass does. Its hard to clean because the blades dont come out, and youre forced to try to clean under them without getting cut. While blending, we had to keep stopping to push the food down towards the blades.

The COSORI C700-PRO Blender is a powerful blender ready for any challenge. This blender features a heavy-duty 1500-watt motor that will deliver enough torque to chop ice and frozen vegetables with ease. It also has a 70-ounce pitcher, which is perfect for most situations. Instead of buttons, you adjust the speed of the blade with a rotary knob. This design lets you choose precisely the speed you want.

Ninja Professional Countertop Blender

Pro power on a budget

Reasons to avoid

The Ninja brand has been around for some time. This is its newest blender which includes a food processor bowl so that in addition to making smoothies, margaritas, and butternut squash soup, you can chop onions, make a chunky salsa, or knead pizza dough. With a whopping 1,400-watt motor this model is tough enough to power through whole fruits, vegetables, seeds, and stems it’ll turn ice to snow in a matter of seconds.

With this blender you get two travel mugs that you can use instead of the full size jar so that after you blend your breakfast you can just grab the mug and run. On the control panel there are preprogrammed AutoiQ settings for crushing ice, smoothies, chopping, extracting, and making dough. Theyre helpful for taking the guesswork out of picking a speed and blending time. Only negative here is that it makes quite a racket when its blending.

Liquid: Milk Coconut Water Juice Or Water

How to Make Smoothies With an Immersion Blender : Fun Fruit Smoothies

Almost all smoothies include some type of liquid, but for creamy smoothies, I prefer milk. I like to make my smoothies non-dairy, so I always use unsweetened almond milk.

Pay close attention to the type of milk you use.

If you are using non-dairy milk, always use the unsweetened varieties. This will keep the amount of sugar lower in your smoothies. You don’t need sweetened milk in smoothies because it is sweet enough already from the fruit.

If you don’t like almond milk, you can use coconut milk or even oat milk. Just make sure it’s the unsweetened variety, and you’re good to go.

When I am making a smoothie thats more icy than creamy, I almost always use coconut water. This makes it hydrating and the coconut flavor is subtle and doesnt overwhelm the other flavors in the smoothie. You can also use fruit juice, like orange juice or apple juice, or even water.

Our Key Considerations When Reviewing Blenders

While price and brand are essential components when choosing a product, we also focused on things that directly impact the overall performance. They include the machines functionalities, construction, ease of use, and safety.

Plus, remember that some models will give you a polished finish and proper performance, but lesser convenience compared to premium ones. So we confirmed that buying the best blender is not just a matter of preference, but also of need and budget.

Below are some points that weve always kept in mind when looking for a blender.

How Do You Dissolve Honey In A Smoothie

So this is an important one to understand. Honey, once crystalized, wont dissolve in a smoothie. It has become crystal in nature. In order to soften if, youre going to want to take the honey and place it and put in a warm water bath. Thats the best approach.

If the honey hasnt been crystalized then its not an issue. Most raw honey is sold in a liquid state, although I like some honey that is sold as creamed. This is a honey that is whipped into a creamy consistency. Its more similar to a nut butter in texture than a liquid honey.

If you want the honey to have a creamy texture and add a thickness to the smoothie, then I would opt for a creamed honey.

If you normally like to use honey in tea and bake with it, and want the regular liquid type of honey.

But whatever type of honey you like make sure that you choose a rawhoney.

How To Make Smoothies Ahead Of Time

The best way to meal-prep smoothies is to create smoothie packs. After you puree your smoothie, it will last maybe a day in the refrigerator before it starts to separate and the texture changes. This is why I prefer to prepare the ingredients ahead of time. Then, all I have to do is grab the smoothie pack, add everything to the blender, and it’s ready to go!

Store the solid parts of your smoothie – the fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds – in a mason jar with a lid. Then, all you have to do is add the contents of your jar, some milk, and yogurt to the blender, and you are ready to go.

If you don’t know when you will make your next smoothie and want to save your prepped contents for a longer length of time, I suggest storing them in the freezer. Just put your fruit/veggie and seeds mix in freezer-safe bags. Then, you can grab a bag, add the contents to a blender, and add your milk and yogurt.
