Is Daily Harvest Worth It
Each Daily Harvest smoothie is loaded with fruits and veggies.
It all depends on your lifestyle. If youre someone who truly doesnt have an extra 15 minutes in the morning to whip up a smoothie or an oat bowl from scratch, then sure, the convenience factor alone makes Daily Harvest worth it. Or, if youre someone who wants to add more fruits and veggies into your diet but you have zero motivation to shop for said ingredients , youll find Daily Harvest makes your health goals easier to reach.
However, for me, I dont consider Daily Harvest worth the cost. I didnt find the meals filling enough to be actual, well, meals, so its hard for me to justify spending $8 on what amounts to a snack. Id rather just buy the ingredients myself and put in those extra minutes of effort.
That said, Daily Harvest is delicious and easy, so if it sounds appealing to you, I say go for it.
Cooking Daily Harvest Offerings: Novice
Despite my lack of cooking skills, I managed to prepare each food item without difficulty . The instructions are simple and concise, and most items can be prepared using a blender or microwave. For smoothies, you can simply add water, juice, or milk to the pre-packaged ingredients and then blend. The various harvest and forager bowls can be popped into the microwave. The flatbreads go in the oven, and then items like the oat and chia bowls just have to sit in the fridge overnight once mixed. The scoops need to be left out of the freezer for about 10 minutes to thaw enough to scoop, but then you can dive in. Overall, I think these snacks and dishes were extremely user-friendly, so novice chefs should not be intimidated at all!
What Is Daily Harvest
Daily Harvest is a subscription meal prep provider, similar to Blue Apron or Sun Harvest. They deliver freezer-safe smoothie cups to your home , which you then fill with milk, blend in your home blender, and pour back into their disposable cup. We think the concept is great but along with other meal prep companiesthe price tag is just beyond what most of us are able to fit in our budget.

Daily Harvest Chia Parfaits Review
I was pleasantly surprised by the chia parfaits. I have made chia pudding on my own but didnt really like it. The Chocolate Protein + Banana was really yummy and filling.
I divided it in half and had it for breakfast for two days. I havent tried the other flavor but Im looking forward to trying it soon!
Can Daily Harvest Be Used As A Weight Loss Meal Delivery Service
This is a question Ive seen come up quite a lot. If youre looking to lose weight, Daily Harvest would not be the first meal delivery service Id recommend. This might seem counterintuitive since I literally just said I think their meals are healthy. However, Daily Harvest is not designed to help you lose weight and, as such, people who purchase it for that reason might be disappointed if they dont see results.
Daily Harvest Delivery And Packaging: Efficient
When the Daily Harvest Box arrived, it was slightly bigger than I expected, but it was packed with a boatload of yummy goodies, all kept frozen with dry ice for convenient storage. The box arrived on the set date around mid-morning, and upon opening, everything was cold to the touch. Most of the items remained upright, though some had been jostled sideways or upside down, which likely occurred during delivery. The box, internal liner, and cardboard dividers were all recyclable, so the only thing that went to waste was the plastic wrapping around the dry ice. The individual food containers can also be recycled and the bowls for the harvest, forager, and oat bowls are even compostable. You do have to let the dry ice sit out for 24 hours to evaporate since you can’t dispose of it like normal ice , which is slightly inconvenient but not a deal breaker by any means.
Is Frozen Fruit Better Than Fresh
As previously stated, Daily Harvest freezes their fruits and vegetables at peak ripeness. They claim that this preserves their nutritional value, flavor, and texture so that your body can benefit from peak summer ripeness in the dead of winter. The New York Times shows that freezing slightly alters the nutritional composition of fruits and vegetables, but that most research reveals no consistent differences in their vitamin content.
However, fresh produce can rapidly deteriorate in quality the longer it sits on store shelves . The Chicago Tribune states that most fresh produce loses a third of their nutrients within three days after harvest and most fresh food takes far longer to land in your kitchen, much less be consumed.
Daily Harvest recognizes that most smoothie drinkers buy ingredients once per week and let them sit in their fridge long enough to slowly leach out their nutrients. By offering everything pre-frozen instead, they strive to ensure that everything stays nutritious until youre ready to eat it.

Whats The Price Of Daily Harvest
Daily Harvest offers 9-, 12-, and 24-cup boxes. Prices per cup decrease as you increase the number of cups per box. A box of 9, which might be great for a week of smoothies with a few dinner options, is $7.75/cup. If you try it once and decide this is for you, a box of 24, or a months worth of cups, is $6.99.
I found this keeps my grocery budget only a bit lower than what I was spending when I was haphazardly buying meals because I didnt have time to cook. A single $20 salad and soup is almost three cups of fruits and vegetables, or three meals. But consider what I was getting in exchange: real food.
Is it an inexpensive option? No, you are getting a lot of fresh produce and prepared foods, which means youre paying a premium for those services. But when compared to thawed soupy marinara and a limp chicken breast patty, the option to eat something that tastes as close to freshly prepared as possible, the extra expensive seems worth it to me, especially when my go-to alternative it nowhere near as healthy or cheap.
How Do You Use Daily Harvest Smoothies
At the time of writing, the Daily Harvest website offered a comprehensive guide for how their subscription service works. You can start the process by checking whether delivery is available in your area.
From there, you can determine what size plan you want. Daily Harvest offers weekly and monthly subscriptions that range in cost per cup. Weekly options include six cups , nine cups , twelve and 24 . The monthly plan also provides 24 cups at $6.99 per cup.
The next step in the process is selecting the products to fill your box. Daily Harvest offers smoothies, harvest bowls, soups, lattes, chia parfaits and overnight oats to choose from, all for the same price per unit.
One the website, you can sort the options by food type, your personalized likes and dislikes, key benefits, and dietary needs to make selection easier.
After your box is filled, you can complete your order and have it shipped to your address. The company will provide a delivery date, which is usually within ten days. You will receive a box packed with enough dry ice to keep the cups frozen, so long as you get to them within twelve hours of delivery.
Once your subscription arrives, you can pop the cups into the freezer until youre ready to prepare them. The company promises that the prep work is simple, taking five minutes or less for most meals and smoothies.

Daily Harvest Harvest Bowls
These harvest bowls are super-nourishing and so delicious! We love sending these to new mamas in our life because theyre easy to make in the microwave or stovetop and the ingredient list cannot be beat. Plus, theyre a great meal option no matter the time of day.
If youre on team savory for breakfast, these can be a deliciously nutritious way to start your day! We pop a harvest bowl in the microwave and fry up an egg at the same time. Top your harvest bowl with an egg, and youre on your way.
What Makes Daily Harvest Different From Other Prepared Meal Delivery Services
Daily Harvest meals are incredibly consistent — probably more so than any other of the prepared meal services I’ve tried — but still remained interesting and with meals full of nuanced flavor. It’s probably the healthiest meal delivery service of the lot too, using only vegan ingredients and mostly ones that are high in nutritional value. Because you prepare them at home — although this rarely takes more than five minutes — they have a homemade feel the way some other precooked food delivery services don’t.

What Can You Order From Daily Harvest
The only one Ive tried is the Blackberry + Majik, I wasnt a fan, but Thomas was! You have to remember 6+ hours in advance to prepare it so it can soak in the fridge overnight, so make sure to plan ahead!
I want to try Coffee + Almond one but have a hard time justifying the price and it sounds kind of like a pain. Theyre little frozen pods with all the ingredients for a latte. You add the pod to a mug or sauce pan with your liquid of choice and heat it all up until it melts and combines. You can see the little pods here.
Dairy-free, plant-based ice cream is always a treat for me.
None of their ingredient lists are complicated just clean, simple food. But, they use things Im probably never going to buy and it saves me so much time. I love cooking, but right now I cant always make something super interesting.
What I Liked About Daily Harvest
The cauliflower pesto bowl before and after .
I opted for the medium Daily Harvest box as, according to the website, it is the most popular option. Unpacking all my goodies upon its arrival , I felt like the healthy-eating, Gwyneth Paltrow-loving, sometimes-vegan, best version of myself. After a week of devouring most of the meals, heres what I loved most.
Daily Harvest Just Launched Protein
Frozen food subscription service Daily Harvest has just launched a new collection of protein-rich smoothies and the ready-to-blend recipes are packed with 10 grams of vegan protein.
Look, mornings aren’t easy. Battling the snooze button and getting dressed and out the door on time can be hard enough, but add morning meeting prep or shuttling the kids to school, and it can feel impossible to fit in a filling breakfast. Thankfully, smoothies are here to save the day. But there are mornings when getting all the ingredients out for a smoothie seems like a big deal. We’re big fans of DIY frozen smoothie packs to keep in the freezer for an even quicker breakfast on-the-go, but sometimes we like to lean on store-bought substitutes to save even more time.

Daily Harvest Delivery & Packaging
Often overlooked but just as important as the food, is how that food actually makes it to your doorstep.
Upon first signing up, youll select the frequency youd prefer to receive your boxweekly or monthly, depending on your specific plan. You can also select the exact day of the week youd like to receive your box, Monday to Saturday. This is super helpful if you know youre not going to be around during specific days of the week . We generally always get our box on a Friday so we have a little something extra to look forward to eating on the weekend.
Daily Harvest says they use OnTrac, Fedex, and UPS to ship all of their boxes but all of our boxes have been delivered using UPS. And speaking of delivery, weve never had any delays in shipping.
The boxes all of the food comes in are very well packed. Even if I left my box outside an extra day Im almost positive the food would still stay frozen. They use a lot of dry ice. Because of that you want to be extra careful when opening your box since dry ice can burn you. We let ours just dissipate in the sink for an hour or so. I learned the hard way that if you run cold water over the dry ice, it will turn to a weird fog that basically takes over the room its in.

Is Daily Harvest Good For Weight Loss
Daily Harvest isnt designed for weight loss, its made to help people it more plant based in a convenient way.
Im sure you could lose weight eating/drinking their products but if that is your main goal youll need to watch your portions/calorie intake. Many of Daily Harvests products are higher in carbs and lower in protein.
If weight/fat loss is your goal, opt for your meals to have high protein first, lots of veggies and some healthy carbs and fat. You can easily make Daily Harvest smoothies and bowls weight loss friendly by adding protein to them. I like to add protein powder to my smoothie and extra greens.

Daily Harvest Vs Smoothie Box
Price: Smoothie Box wins. Daily Harvest cups range from $6.99 at the cheapest to $7.99 at the highest. Smoothie Box is only $6/smoothie.
Variety: Daily Harvest wins. DH has much more variety that Smoothie Box.
Nutritional Value: Smoothie Box wins here for me. I love that they have the collagen packets for the smoothies. I normally add my own to Daily Harvest because their smoothies are lacking in protein.
Taste: Tie! Everything Ive tried from both companies is delicious.
