What do I use for a storage container?

There are many options. Here are two primary ways: Glass jars and plastic freezer bags.

Those who are plastic conscious and looking for eco-friendly options may opt for a mason jar or a glass jar with a lid . Tip: Check your local thrift shop for budget-friendly mason jars.

Plastic freezer bags are another option. Plastic bags have the benefit of being lighter, easier to store in the freezer and occupy less freezer space. You can also write your ingredients directly on the bag with a sharpie if you are planning to store them for longer periods of time. Tip: you may want to write what is in the pack and what needs to be added, especially if sharing with others in the household.

What do I add, and what order of ingredients is best?

The order: Dry, then everything else.

Add dry ingredients first. This includes, but is not limited to, nuts/seeds & spice such as:

Next, add fresh or frozen produce, such as:

How Do You Make A Smooth Smoothie

Make Ahead Smoothies (2 Ways)

A tasty smoothie has to have the right consistency, which depends a little on personal preference. Fortunately, adjustments are a breeze.

If your smoothie is too thick, add more liquid. We personally prefer an unsweetened milk beverage over water so that it doesnt water down the flavor.

If your smoothie is too thin, then add more solid contents. This could be more fresh fruit, nut butters, dairy like yogurt, or even oats.

Your blender can play a factor too. A higher power blender can cut through the frozen fruits and some of the more solid ingredients better, creating the smooth texture youre looking for.

Also, it helps to start at the low setting then move upward to a higher setting, rather than starting out on high right off the bat.

Adding Extra Nutrition To This Coffee Smoothie

You can enhance any smoothie by adding additional nutritious ingredients to really make it your own. Here are a few suggestions that you can add to this coffee smoothie:

  • Flaxseed meal: this is one of my favorite ingredients to add to smoothies for a little boost of fiber and minerals, and is especially great for nursing mamas as flaxseed can help increase milk supply. Usually, a tablespoon is plenty! Heres a brand I love.
  • Chia seeds: feel free to add in a tablespoon of chia seeds to your smoothie for a boost of healthy fats and fiber.
  • Hemp seeds: if youve been wondering what to do with those hemp seeds lurking in your cupboard, feel free to throw in a tablespoon into your smoothie for a boost of healthy fats, omegas and minerals.
  • Oats: to add a little heartiness to your smoothie and to help thicken it, feel free to add in 1/3 cup oats. Do not use steel cut oats as they will not blend well.
  • Avocado: add healthy fats and create a thick, creamy smoothie by adding ripe avocado. Usually 1/4 or 1/2 of an avocado will be sufficient and also help to keep you satisfied thanks to those healthy fats.

To make genuinely healthy smoothies, you have to be careful with the ingredients you use. This post will educate you on how to choose the highest-quality ingredients to ensure that youâre getting the nutritional benefits you should be getting with fruit-filled smoothies.

As long as you stock your freezer with frozen fruit and keep a few handy base ingredients on hand in the fridge each week, smoothie making is super easy and nutritious.

Fruit And Yogurt Smoothies

These smoothies are great if you are trying to get your kids to eat more fruit. You dont even need to add sugar to it.

  • 2 c. fresh fruit, chopped

This recipe makes one smoothie, so multiply these amounts by how many smoothies you want to make.

Freeze the yogurt ahead of time by pouring it into ice cube trays. When the yogurt is frozen, add a couple of yogurt cubes to each smoothie bag along with the fresh fruit. Label each bag and place in freezer until ready to serve.

To prepare, pour contents of smoothie bag into blender and add 1 cup of water. Blend until smooth.

When you are shopping for these recipes, consider buying ingredients in bulk. Wholesale grocery stores offer bulk quantities of fruits, vegetables, and yogurt for sometimes much reduced prices.

If you or your kids are new to smoothies, then start with the fruit version and then start adding a few leaves of spinach or kale for added nutrition. You will find that the vegetables do not have much taste at all when mixed with the fruits.

Give these easy smoothie recipes a try, and you will only need a minute or two in the morning to make one!

My body craves all of the healthy ingredients in Make Ahead Green Smoothies, but the spinach makes them taste like spinach. For the first time, I was hesitant to try a green smoothie for a variety of reasons. My spinach has never gone bad since I figured out how to make green smoothies ahead of time. Place the spinach in a quart-sized bag and seal with wax paper. 1/2 cup ripe bananas peeled, 1 tablespoon orange juice concentrate, and 1 cup frozen pineapple are all required. Use as much air as possible to squeeze out of the bags and seal. When making labels, I label them with food coloring and freeze them on cookie sheets to keep them flat throughout the baking process.

How To Meal Prep Smoothies

Step 1: Grab a few zip-top bags

Set aside time on a Sunday afternoon to make individual smoothie packs. To get started, grab a pack of sandwich-sized resealable plastic bags that are freezer-safe.

Editors Tip: I like to label each with the type of fruit and date. This keeps the freezer organized and, more importantly, keeps me from playing the guessing game with food expiration dates. Psst!Heres how long fresh produce really lasts.

Step 2: Load in fresh produce

Next, load in your favorite fruits and vegetables. Berries, bananas and stone fruit are freezer-friendly and taste great in smoothies, but dont be afraid to experiment with greens like spinach, too. I like to measure a cup of each fruit and place in the freezer bags. Of course, you can buy already-frozen fruit and use that in your individual bags, too.

Step 3: Freeze

Place each carefully labeled bag in the freezer and give yourself a pat on the back. Youve got breakfast for the entire week!

Step 4: Add liquid and blend

When ready to enjoy your smoothie, just grab a fruity freezer pack and dump it in the blender. Add a cup or so of your favorite juice, yogurt or milk, and blend. Simply pour your finished smoothie into a travel mug or mason jarand go!

Editors Tip: Control the consistency of your smoothie by adding more or less liquid. Extra juice or milk will give your drink a straw-friendly consistency.

The Prepped Ingredient Method

While this method will take the slightly more time out of your morningstill no more than a minute or twoits the best method for guaranteeing a fresh and flavorful tasting smoothie every time.

Rather than blending your smoothie ahead of time and freezing it as-is, with this method youll slice and pre-portion your smoothie ingredients into individual freezer friendly plastic bags or jars to be quickly thrown in the blender in the morning with a splash of your favorite milk or dairy supplement, yogurt, or juice.

One of the benefits of this method, apart from the fresh flavor, is the ability to prep numerous kinds of smoothies ahead of time, rather than having a stockpile of the same exact smoothie, which can make your morning routine repetitive. While some of your smoothie bags might contain a sweet, fruity mixture of banana and berries, others can pack in the greens with a combination like kale, pineapple, and chia seeds.

A good standard ratio of frozen ingredients for a single meal-sized smoothie is 1 sliced banana, 2 cups fruit, and 1 cup of greens to be blended with 1 cup of the liquid of your choice. Though this will require a little work in the morning, a huge benefit of this method is that it allows you to prep your smoothies 3-6 months in advance. In contrast, pre-blended smoothies should be consumed within a few weeks of freezing.

Can You Make A Smoothie Ahead Of Time And Keep It Overnight

by Shauna Havey | Nov 2, 2022 | Smoothies

A smoothie is a drink made from pureed raw fruits or vegetables, typically using a blender. They can be made with fresh or frozen ingredients and are a quick and easy way to get a nutrient-rich snack or meal. But can you make a smoothie ahead of time and keep it overnight? The answer is yes, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, if you are using fresh fruit, it is best to consume your smoothie within a few hours. However, if you are using frozen fruit or vegetables, your smoothie will be fine sitting in the fridge overnight. Second, to prevent your smoothie from separating or becoming watery, add a thickener such as yogurt, chia seeds, or ground flaxseed. This will also help to keep the fruits and vegetables from oxidizing and turning brown. Lastly, be sure to seal your smoothie tightly in a container before storing in the fridge. This will help to keep the smoothie from absorbing any funky fridge smells. So there you have it! With a little planning, you can make a smoothie ahead of time and enjoy it the next day. Just be sure to drink it within 24 hours for the best flavor and texture.

Ive been practicing keeping my smoothies in the fridge for weeks. In general, smoothies last longer than juice. According to my experience, this method will keep juice for about 12 hours in the refrigerator, whereas a smoothie will keep you going for 24 hours if stored properly in the refrigerator.
