What Are Lactation Drinks

Simply put a lactation drink is any beverage that can support and help increase breast milk production. These drinks usually contain some combination of herbs, foods and nutrients that are known to increase breast milk supply.

Lactation drinks are a fairly new invention, even though the use of herbs and drinks for nourishing breastfeeding mothers has been utilized by midwives and women for many centuries. In recent years, many companies have taken this wisdom and created products specifically for nursing moms.

However, not all lactation drinks are created equal.

The results will be different for each product and for each mother. So its important to test out what works for you and your baby.

Also not all drinks claiming to be lactation drinks are healthy. Some contain high amounts of added sugar, allergens, and other filler or low quality ingredients.

This list will share some of the best lactation drinks for increasing milk supply and staying hydrated while breastfeeding.

Constantly Hungry While Breastfeeding

A simple way to think about why you are always hungry when breastfeeding is that you are expending energy and calories through producing milk.

When your baby is nursing, your baby is drinking the milk that you produce, stimulating your body to produce more milk.

While the amount of calories a mom burns while breastfeeding will vary based on the person, a general range is 400-600 calories per day, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

In other words, your body is using calories and energy to make milk, and so you feel hungrier and thirstier to make up for that difference.

This hunger may manifest as:

  • growling stomach or pain in the stomach
  • headaches
  • obsession with food or constantly thinking about food
  • feeling extra tired and lethargic

Hunger is never something to be ignored, especially when you are a lactating mom. Your body, milk supply and baby will thank you for nourishing your body properly.

Im known to have an orange mango smoothie or peanut butter coffee smoothie to start the day or readily available after a workout because I hate the feeling of being overly hungry.

A Few Steps To A Delicious Smoothie

Best Healthy Protein Smoothie For Breastfeeding Moms that ...

In principle, there are hardly any limits to the choice of ingredients its as easy as simply mixing according to your taste preference.

Some prefer to blend up a tropical fruit blend such as mango, pineapple, papaya, or passion fruit. Others prefer healthy mixed drinks with carrots, tomatoes, or other local vegetables.

The reason why smoothies are so effective is because the natural ingredients are crushed, which allows the maximum vitamins and minerals to be released for your body to easily access and use.

But whats the best ingredient mix? And what requires the least possible effort?

While its totally possible to prepare smoothies with the help of a stick blender, many usually find it quite complicated, and the result often leaves much to be desired.

Anyone who wants to prepare smoothies on a regular basis should really consider investing in the true all-round kitchen helper: a blender.

While some may hesitate to buy this slightly more pricey option, its worth noting that many other dishes, such as dips, sauces, soups, and much more can be made with this handy appliance.

This definitely justifies the cost in the long run.

Second, they also contain unsaturated fats that help in balancing your bad fat levels and boosting your milk supply.

If you cant stand avocados in a smoothie, try it on a sandwich or plain. I love the consistency avocados add to smoothies.

Milk Making Lactation Smoothies For Breastfeeding Moms

As if pregnancy wasnt stressful enough, now we have to stress over milk supply.

I remember being obsessed with my milk supply and wanting to do everything possible to increase milk supply.

I am a huge advocate of just eating healthy and drinking a lot of water, but I did take 3 supplements both times that really helped with milk supply.

I hope to add those to the MMF Shop at some point but for now, try to get good quality of all of them. Its worth spending a few extra bucks because if supplements arent good quality, your body wont absorb them so you get no benefits from them.

    I used:

    Fenugreek

    Mothers Milk Tea

So, one of my biggest tips when wanting to boost your milk supply is not just drink the tea and take the pills.

But make snacks and foods that you can add in the milk boosting foods.
