How To Meal Prep Smoothies

Believe it or not, you can meal prep smoothies in a variety of ways!

I love to make Smoothie Freezer Packs that you can either freeze in Ziploc bags or in mason jars for zero waste.

The basic premise is that you add all your fillings, then add the milk/Greek yogurt fresh the day you go to make them. You can make a ton of different combos in advance and then you have your smoothies meal prepped and waiting for you without the hassle of getting everything out.

This method is great for when you have to get out the door fast but you still want a freshly blended smoothie.

How Long Will Healthy Smoothies Last in the Fridge?

You can also blend a few smoothies up to 3 days in advance I find that just like cold-pressed juices, smoothies will last a few days in the fridge. They won’t quite be as good as fresh, but nothing in the smoothie is necessarily going to go bad so you can make a few at a time to enjoy later.

I wouldn’t recommend leaving them past 3 days because the bananas or other leafy greens can go bad but you do have a couple days to enjoy.

Is It Healthy To Drink A Smoothie Everyday

So, smoothies are delicious – and contain a bunch of health benefits. Does that mean I should be enjoying a smoothie every day?

The answer is, in short – Absolutely!If you are looking for a tasty way to pack more fruits and veggies into your diet – a nutritious smoothie full of fresh produce is definitely the way to go.

The longer answer is – Absolutely! But

Don’t overdo it – be aware of your serving sizes. Check out the label on your smoothie and always look at the nutritional information listed on the back.

It is important to select a fresh smoothie full of non-GMO, healthy ingredients. A milkshake masquerading as a healthy smoothie will end up being full of empty calories and saturated fats – and is not what we want to be putting into our bodies every day.

If you are looking for weight loss try a green smoothie loaded full of vegetables. These will be lower in calories then full fruit versions and better for everyday enjoyment.

Use Your Milk Of Choice

How to make Healthy Smoothies.

I have used and loved all kinds of milk for smoothies, including normal cows milk, raw cows milk, and lots of plant- and nut-based milk like rice, almond, coconut, and cashew. When buying nut milk, make sure the carton is marked unsweetened. You dont really need the added sugar when you are using fruit in your smoothie. I love cashew milk its super creamy and delicious. I most often use almond milk in the carton or a coconut-almond blend in the carton. Use what you can find in your area.

Will Smoothies Keep Overnight

My personal preference is to prep the ingredients for smoothies and then blend them when youre ready to enjoy.

All of these smoothie recipes can be made ahead of time if your mornings are pretty crazy like ours. Simply place the solid ingredients into a labeled clear resealable bag and store them in the freezer. Then in the morning, choose the smoothie flavor you feel like having that morning.add liquid and blend.

How To Make A Smoothie Without A Blender

If you want to make a smoothie without a blender, there are a couple of other options. In a pinch, you can make a smoothie a food processor, but be ready for some more clean up. Your food processor might not be made to lock in liquids, so there could be some leaks. Plus, its got several pieces, including a removable blade, which will need individual cleaning.

For making an individual smoothie, you can use an immersion blendera handheld version of a blender, which can come at a lower price. Simply dip the immersion blender into an unbreakable cup or bowl containing your ingredients and turn it on to mix. A good quality one will break up your ice just as well as a standard blender will. Plus, immersion blenders dont take up much space and tend to be easy to clean.

    Depending on the strength of your blender , the order you put your ingredients in the blender could influence the overall texture. Heres how we like to layer ingredients into the blender:

  • Liquids go first to make blending easier on the blades.
  • Greens go in next, which will help them to pulverize smoothly.
  • Soft ingredients, like fresh fruit and soft veggies, go next to help the blades start blending.
  • Hard ingredients, like frozen fruit and firm veggies, go last.
  • Start the blender off slowly, then gradually increase the speed. Blend for 30 to 60 seconds until the smoothie is as smooth as possible.

    HEALTHY BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE RECIPES

    My basic smoothie recipe calls for four simple ingredients:

    Banana I use one banana to make one large or two smaller smoothies. For the best tasting smoothie, use a ripe banana. For the creamiest banana smoothie, use frozen banana slices. Ive shared how I freeze bananas for smoothies below.

    Half an orange When I have oranges in the house, I love adding them to my morning smoothie. It adds extra vitamin C and tropical flavor. If you dont have oranges on hand, dont worry, you can substitute other fruits like mango, pineapple, and berries.

    Plain or Greek yogurt I dont always add yogurt to my smoothies, but when I do have it in the fridge, adding a spoonful ensures a protein-packed and creamy smoothie. For a smoothie without yogurt, add a little extra fruit or include veggies like spinach or kale.

    Water or milk To help the ingredients blend, I like adding a splash of liquid to the blender. For a smoothie without milk, use water. It still tastes amazing. For more creaminess add milk .

    To make the smoothie, I add everything into a blender and then blend until smooth. For an icy cold smoothie, throw in a handful of ice or use frozen fruits.

    Do You Add Sweeteners To Smoothies

    I dont add any sweeteners besides fruit to my own smoothies, but sometimes my kids want them to be sweeter. I feel like the health benefits of smoothies allow me to add a little sweetener for the kids, so depending on the smoothie, I might add honey, maple syrup, more fruit, fruit juice, sweetened milk, or sweetened yogurt. Sweeten to your liking, but conservative is always best! You can always add more after tasting.

    How To Make A Smoothie With Ice Cream

    A smoothie with ice cream? Uh, yes please. Once you scoop ice cream into your blender, its technically considered a milkshake, but go ahead and make that switch for an occasional indulgent treat. Ice cream, of course, makes for an exceptionally creamy, sweet, and decadent smoothie experience.
