Lets Break Down The Math:

One months worth of smoothie subscriptions can cost you about $240! Yes, there is definitely a convenience factor, but if you make your own, you control the ingredients and sweetness and it is SO much more affordable. Our 30 days worth of smoothie packs came in at a minuscule: $46.33!!! Or about $1.50 per smoothie! And we timed ourselves making the smoothie packs and can confidently say it should take you no more than 1 hour, or less, to put them all together.

We wanted to use one shopping list interchanging the ingredients as much as possible when putting together these recipes. We came up with 5 smoothies that are all their own flavor, while still using some of the same ingredients. Weve made a SHOPPING LIST that you can find below, as well as in the notes of the recipe.

It was also important that we kept the ingredients as common as possible so theyre easy to find. Weve offered a few substitutions in the recipe for ingredients that are less common, like cacao nibs. And while we tend to like a sweeter smoothie, we know some people would prefer to keep it as low sugar as possible, so sweetness is optional for most . You can use maple syrup, honey, or stevia to sweeten your smoothie.

Versatility Add What You Want

An amazing thing about smoothies is that you can add as little or as much of an ingredient as you prefer.

  • Not a fan of bananas? Swap out for the fruit of your choosing.
  • Dont care for peanut butter ? Swap it out for almond butter, cashew butter or the nut butter of your choosing. Great way to add protein to any smoothie!
  • Dont forget to add chia seeds and/or flax meal for healthy fats. An avocado works, too!
  • Worried about the spinach or kale? You wont even taste it! The only thing it is likely to do is turn the smoothie a strange color.
  • No to clementines? Try pineapple chunks.
  • Dont forget to add your favorite yogurt! Prefer something more filling? Add a scoop of protein powder.

Peach Pie Smoothie Packs

Healthy make ahead breakfast recipes kids will actually eat.

Place 1 cup fresh or frozen sliced peaches, 1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats, 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, and 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a quart-sized zip-top bag. Seal the bag and freeze until the fruit is solid. When ready to eat, transfer the frozen ingredients to a blender and add 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1 tablespoon honey, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract. Blend on high speed until very smooth, 30 to 60 seconds, adding more almond milk if needed to thin it out. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with diced peaches, oats, and cinnamon, if desired.

Prep The Night Before

Put everything into the blender pitcher and pop it in the fridge at night. In the morning, just grab the pitcher out of the blender, add any remaining ingredients and whirl up your breakfast smoothie. Items that will get soggy or brown, like granola, avocado and apples, should be tossed in right before blending.

Use Your Ice Cube Tray

Rather than adding ice to your smoothies , freeze the liquid youd use for smoothies, like milk or coconut water. When youre ready to blend, simply halve the amount of liquid youd use, then pop in a few milk cubes to add flavor and to give your smoothie a nice frosty texture. Freezer Smoothie Packs Ready To Go When You Are These Smoothie Packs Make Mornings Or A Nutritious Snack On The Go Easier They Are Customizable And Can Be Packed With Extra Protein Or Be A Substitute For A Less Nutritious Treat

School is out, summer is here. Before school got out I was counting down the days. And now that it is, all I can think is, Why is it I always cant wait for school to be out? Dont get me wrong, I am loving having my kids home, and I am not ready for them to go back yet. But I have a tendency of thinking life is going to slow down, and get easier because I wont be dealing with carpools, and homework. But my reality is far different.

Usually when school gets out, that is when the real busy begins. That busy is more fun than the school year busy, but no less tiresome. And without the structure of the school day, sometimes summers mean odd meal times and sugary, low nutrition snacks.

In an attempt to combat that this summer, I decided to take a day and make smoothie packs so we would have tasty, nutritious smoothies ready to go at a moments notice. They are still sweet and yummy, so my kids love them, and I can add in all the extra goodies to make them at least somewhat good for my kids.

And oh man we had so much fun making Freezer Smoothie Packs. The kids love to customize their smoothies to their preference. My son, for example, hates bananas, so you wont find one in his packs. My daughter prefers more greens, and loves adding in extra veggies with her fruit. Her fruit of choice is berries. And me??? Well, I like mine to be bright green, and totally creamy. So you will find lots of spinach, light colored fruits , and a half an avocado.

Dont Just Portion Your Ingredients Into Freezer Packs Blend All Of Your Smoothies At Once

Everbowl (10) Ready to Blend Frozen Fruit Smoothie Packs on QVC

Ill admit that when I first saw the now-ubiquitous frozen smoothie packs on Pinterest years ago, I thought they were pretty clever. The idea is that you wash and chop enough fruits and vegetables for several smoothies all at once, then portion them into individual bags and freeze them. Each morning, all you need to do is blend a smoothie pack with some liquid.

Now, though, I realize theres a much more efficient way to do things: blending a whole weeks worth of smoothies at the same time. The major sell here is that you only need to clean your blender once a week. Another real plus is that you wont be wasting disposable plastic bags making smoothie packs.

Keep in mind that most blenders will only hold about two smoothies at a time, so youll have to blend your ingredients in batches. And remember that liquids expand when frozen! I recommend using plastic mason jars with airtight lids, and filling them only about three-quarters of the way full. You can use glass jars, but youll need to be even more vigilant about leaving ample space at the top of the jar, since theyre more likely to shatter.

Once your weekly batch is successfully blended, all you need to do is move one smoothie from the freezer to the fridge every night, so that it thaws by morning. Just be sure to shake your smoothie vigorously before drinking it , in case anything has separated.

Can You Freeze Avocado For Smoothies

YES, you can freeze avocado for smoothies by cutting the avocado into large pieces and tossing with a bit of lemon or lime juice. I use about 1 tablespoon lemon juice for each avocado and then freeze on a baking sheet in a single layer. Once frozen you can transfer to a zip top bag or your smoothie freezer packs.

Another option is to buy frozen avocado, its crazy convenient and priced well. I found it my grocers freezer section and because its been doused in citric acid its perfect for guacamole!

These Freezer Smoothie kits are the BEST way to enjoy any make ahead smoothie recipes like the three Im sharing today. I have a bunch of my favorite smoothie recipes like this ever popular Strawberry Cheesecake Smoothie.I mean, seriously, its like the best thing ever.

For the Frozen Smoothie Packs I made a Pitaya Mango Smoothie which was so refreshing and fruity, I blended this one with a bit of coconut milk to give it a totally tropical flavor.

And if you dont know what Pitaya is, its also known as Dragon Fruit and its the fruit of a cactus.or so Ive been told. Pitaya has numerous health benefits and you can find it fresh in the produce section or frozen in packs in your grocers freezer section.

I also made a Pina Colada Smoothie pack which is similar to this Pina Colada Smoothie I made a few years ago and totally need to take new pictures of.adding that to the list. This one is simple, pineapple, coconut yogurt, coconut milk and banana. So, simple but soooo so good.

How To Freeze Peanut Butter

If Im being honest, no matter how big the jar, peanut butter does not last long in our household. A spoonful here, a spoonful there and its gone before you know it. However, if you make a really big batch of my natural peanut butter or you want to make it easier for these smoothie freezer packs to just dump into the blender, add milk, and blend, you can easily freeze peanut butter.

Peanut butter has a very high oil and low moisture levels and very good news holds up very well in the freezer. Defrosted peanut butter tastes pretty much the same as the one you took directly off your shelf.

Instead of freezing an entire jar, split the peanut butter into smaller portions and freeze separately. I always do it using ice cube trays, its simple and easy. Later just grab a cube and pop it into your smoothie. Perfect!

A few years ago, Judie and I were at CES, and she turned me on to having a smoothie for breakfast. Most days since that time, Ive done just that. Now, thanks to the BlendJet and JetPacks, I can have a delicious smoothy anywhere. With the companys overpriced but delicious JetPacks, the process is even easier!

BlendJet was born out of a simple vision: Take the benefits of a blender on the go! We created a small power-machine that lets you make fresh smoothies, shakes, or baby food wherever you are. We wanted a convenient way to make fresh smoothies, protein shakes, and meal replacements on the go.

The BlendJet is a small, portable blender with a rechargeable battery. At just 3 x 3 x 9 inches, you can use it anywhere, and it is easy to store when not in use.

When the charge runs down, you simply plug in a micro USB cable and recharge it. The company says each charge is good for 10-12 uses, but Ive found myself recharging it after about eight uses. Recharging the blender takes up to three hours.

Its even available in a variety of fun colors.

From there, you simply add ingredients, turn it on for a minute and a half, shake and then drink.

As the company explains, the BlendJet is:

Creating a smoothie using the BlendJet takes just a few quick steps.

Also, a built-in strainer makes sure you get the smoothest smoothie possible.

Are Mason Jars Safe For The Freezer

Mason jars are a great, inexpensive and eco-friendly storage option. Mason jars are safe for the freezer as well, but you have to be careful in order to prevent the glass jars from cracking or shattering in the freezer. I like using these 16 oz mason jars for freezing, but you can also use 1 quart plastic storage bags for smoothie freezer packs.

If adding liquid, dont fill the jar all the way up, but up until about an inch or two from the rim. Liquids expand when frozen and this will keep the jar from cracking up in the freezer. Defrost your mason jars in the fridge or at room temperature. I wait to add the milk to the smoothie until its time to blend my smoothie and freeze everything else.
