How to make a Vegan Protein smoothie

I like to celebrate simple ingredients that are often overlooked. The world of smoothies can be very pretentious and include ingredients such as dragon fruit, lychee and avocado that are simply not accessible to everyone.

Moreover, it sometimes calls for ingredients such as ashwagandha, wheatgrass powder and pink pitaya powder. I mean, seriously? I kept it nice and simple with ingredients such as apples, bananas, pears and frozen raspberries

Blending A Vegan Tropical Smoothie

Smoothies are super quick n’ easy to make, and don’t require fancy equipment. I blended many smoothies with my $40 Hamilton Beach blender before making the commitment to a Vitamix. Here’s my no-fail blending formula:

  • Blend spinach, orange, and water. You should blend until there are no leafy chunks swirling around, which might take a bit depending on your blender.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and blend again. Blend until no chunks remain. If you’re using all frozen fruit, thaw it a bit before adding so that your blender doesn’t have to work as hard.
  • If you’re using a high-powered blender, then I recommend leaving as much of the white-pith around the orange as possible because that pith contains oh so many nutrients. Yet if you are using a non-high powered blender, then the pith might not fully break down.

Using at least 1 frozen fruit will give you a refreshingly cold vegan tropical smoothie. I don’t recommend freezing the orange for this smoothie since it acts as part of the liquid as well. If you do freeze the orange, then just add a bit more water to break down the ingredients.

Why Is My Smoothie So Thick

Frozen fruit and ice cubes may have to be used more efficiently with more smoothies since they are too thick to go smoothly. By adding water or adding some tea or coffee, you can thin it. Smoothies usually made with bananas, nuts, or cocoa powder combine very well with coffee. A strawberry or peach should pair well with green tea.

If you are new to veganism and are wondering how to make a vegan smoothie, you might be concerned about getting runny smoothies.

The key to getting nice and thick vegan smoothies is to add in plenty of ingredients and to not use too much liquid. Remember, you can always add in more liquid, but you cant take it out!

Make sure to add plenty of fruits and vegetables to get a nice and thick smoothie. But you could also use protein powder or superfood powders as a way of thickening up a runny smoothie.

You could also add flax or chia seeds as they can absorb some of the extra liquid to create a thicker vegan smoothie.

Maximizing The Nutrition Of Your Smoothies

Since theyre made in a blender rather than a juicer, smoothies contain all the fiber of whatever fruit youre using. Its always smart to add a couple teaspoons of chia seeds to your smoothies. Chia seeds are full of omega 3s, which is an essential fat thats abundant in only a few vegan foods.

Since fruit inevitably contains a lot of sugar, it makes sense for your vegan milk base to be unsweetened. You can find unsweetened soy milk in just about any supermarket.

An increasingly popular variant of regular smoothies is a green smoothie. Spinach or kale are usually included in these smoothies, and some people will boost the chlorophyll content even further by adding spirulina or chlorella. I must warn you that, prepared ineptly, there is no beverage quite as vile as a green smoothie. But done right, its possible to get the kale and the sweetness of the fruit to balance nicely, so youve got something thats fairly tasty. In any event, its hard to come up with a more hardcore health food than a green smoothie.

While you can usually get great results using a cheap blender, fibrous kale-based smoothies demand a Blendtec or Vitamix for best results.

Vegan smoothies are also referred to as shakes or fruit juice. Generally, this term is used to describe a mixture of various ingredients to be consumed as a beverage.

However, we should not forget that all foods eaten while on a vegan diet are of vegetable origin. This means that they should not contain milk, cream or other dairy products.

While preparing these drinks, it is not enough to take some vegetables and then mix them in the blender. This is a mistake many people make when trying to eat a more nutritious diet.

This type of diet usually leaves a bad taste in their mouth. After all, the logic is this: There is no rule that every vegetable or fruit will taste good together.

Thats why you should learn to identify the right ingredients for your drinks.

So, you probably know how to make a smoothie, lol. BUT a few things Id like to go over to get just the right consistency. Having a quality blender is helpful in making sure all of the ingredients are fully blended. I understand they can be pretty pricey, but if you enjoy smoothies, I definitely think splurging a tad on a good blender is worth it! Start off slow when you blend and then increase the speed. If your blender has this ability it will help the frozen fruit from getting stuck. You may need to add more liquid if its just not moving along. BUT do this in small increments! The size of your mango chunks, the size banana and avocado you use all make a difference, so just see how its going. Were not adding ice cubes to this smoothie. Instead, that is why we use frozen fruit. You can buy mango frozen at the grocery store, but the bananas you most likely will have to freeze on your own the night before. I like to take the really ripe bananas that nobody wants to eat, peel them, break them in half and freeze them for smoothies! I always have frozen bananas in my freezer. It cuts back on food waste while also putting them to good use! So be sure to have frozen bananas before you make this smoothie recipe. The night before is great. Thick vs. thin smoothie. So if you like thicker smoothies, add more frozen fruit. If you like thinner smoothie consistency add a bit more liquid. This part is all your own preference. How To Make A Fruit Smoothie

Okay, so with the background out of the way, lets see how to make these delicious fruit smoothies.

To activate the enzymes in the seeds in this recipe for easier digestion, soak the seeds in water ahead of time. The water should cover the seeds and soak for at least 30 minutes, but overnight is preferred if you have the time. Cover the glass with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for the soaking and to get them cool for your smoothie.

After the seeds are soaked, assemble the rest of your ingredients.

Add each ingredient into a high-speed blender. First, add the frozen fruit. Here I am making the Strawberry and Blueberry Vegan Smoothie.

Next, add in the almond milk.

Pour in the fruit juice, which is cranberry juice for this recipe.

    Then pour in the water.

Next, dump in the soaked seeds. It is okay if a little water is added, just dont add too much.

Lastly, add in the coconut oil

    and the almond butter.

Blend on high speed until it is smooth. The smoothie should be thick, but drinkable. If it is too thick to drink, then add a little more water or fruit juice and blend.

Pour into a large glass and enjoy. If you have some very cute colorful straws, then do some straw color coordination to make a beautiful smoothie!

The blender will chew the food for you. The kale leaves should be cut in half before they can be loaded into a smoothie. As a smoothie, they can be bitter, but they are edible.
