Regular espresso machines that use beans or ground coffee are much more particular than the single-serve options, which is why he often recommends machines that use capsules. “If you don’t know what you’re doing, most of the time, you will get a mediocre cup of espresso because it requires skill,” he says. Another issue is that beans become stale about a week after you open the bag. So unless you’re brewing espresso for the entire neighborhood every day, you’re probably going to start brewing less-than-desirable espresso or wasting bags of coffee beans.
As you’re browsing espresso machine options, Milos says one important feature is that the device can heat up water to a precise temperature for a consistent amount of time. While almost every blender we tested was of the high-performance variety , we kept seeing extremely positive reviews for this conventional KitchenAid model. At less than $100, this is a good option for easy tasks like daily breakfast smoothies and batch cocktails. If you want to handle heavier tasks, like making nut butters and turning rough kale into a fine blend, youd be better off with one of the blenders above.
Flaws But Not Dealbreakers
Even though we like the tight-fitting travel lid, the spout for drinking is very small, measuring 1 inch by ¾ inch. Its very difficult to drink a thick smoothie without using a straw. But we prefer straws to smoothie sipping, so this doesnt bother us one bit.
The NutriBullet Pro isnt the sleekest machine we tested. The branding is splashed all over the front, and if youre logo averse, this can be troubling. If aesthetics are that important to you, consider getting the Breville Boss To Go.
