Berlins mobile Smoothie Bar mit frischen Superfood

Next, draw up a business plan that details your concept and makes comprehensive financial projections for your first three years of operation based on your estimated startup and ongoing expenses and revenues.

Your business plan needs to encompass most if not all of the items on this list:

  • Food truck licensing requirements and costs in your area
  • Initial and ongoing local health department inspection and safe food service requirements
  • Your food trucks operational model roaming, residence-based, or something in between and how much private catering you plan to do, if any
  • What type of food truck youll need
  • Costs for your truck or cart and cooking equipment, and whether you plan to buy new or used
  • Where you plan to prepare food, if not entirely in your mobile eatery, and costs for a fixed prep or cooking space like a commissary or nonprofit commercial kitchen
  • Where youll park your truck overnight
  • Your menu design and ingredient costs
  • Ongoing overhead costs like parking, propane, insurance, and business services such as payment processing and point-of-sale equipment
  • Your marketing plans and costs, including website development and social media marketing

Juice Bar Competitive Analysis

Your competitive analysis should identify the indirect and direct competitors your business faces and then focus on the latter.

Direct competitors are other juice bars.

Indirect competitors are other options that customers have to purchase from that arent direct competitors. This includes restaurants, supermarkets and customers making juice themselves at home. You need to mention such competition to show you understand that not everyone who drinks juice or smoothies frequents a juice bar each day.

With regards to direct competition, you want to detail the other juice bars with which you compete. Most likely, your direct competitors will be juice bars located very close to your location.

For each such competitor, provide an overview of their businesses and document their strengths and weaknesses. Unless you once worked at your competitors businesses, it will be impossible to know everything about them. But you should be able to find out key things about them such as:

  • What types of customers do they serve?
  • What products do they offer?
  • What is their pricing ?
  • What are they good at?
  • What are their weaknesses?

With regards to the last two questions, think about your answers from the customers perspective. And dont be afraid to stand outside your competitors locations and ask customers as they leave what they like most and least about them.

The final part of your competitive analysis section is to document your areas of competitive advantage. For example:

Build A Juice Bar Branding Strategy

Introduction To Green Juice

Its hard to walk down the street nowadays and not notice someone enjoying a cup of fresh green juice. With consumers eager to add easy, delicious and nutritious foods into their everyday routines, green juice has rapidly become a staple in the health and wellness sector of the beverage industry. The delicious drink is prepared with dark leafy greens and vegetables processed through a juicer, hence the clever name. Given that green juice can provide a bitter taste, most green juice recipes include kiwi, berries, apples, oranges, or other various fruits for an added dash of sweetness. Leafy greens like spinach, Swiss chard, and lettuce offer a milder taste, making it an often preferred green juice ingredient. Many prefer to prepare their own at home, experimenting till they find the perfect green juice recipe that satisfies their taste buds.

  • Thank you so much for this!!Its great

  • I loved the article. Thank you for the information. I currently buy plastic wh square pet bottles 16oz, 8oz and 2oz bottles from US Plastic Corp. They are slightly cheaper than captiva after shipping, however, they are not true to size. They have that gap that you are talking about in the milk bottles. Are the captiva bottles true to size? How can I tell if a bottle is true to size before ordering, is there a specific design I should be looking for or something in the description that tells me.

    Thank you so much.

  • Thanks for all the info. I jus have a question how can I get the COGS percentage?

  • Choose A Juice And Smoothie Shop Location

Your juice bar location and business concept should go hand in hand. Sometimes choosing your location ends up being the first step in the process of opening your business. You might have your eye on a commercial space that speaks to you, or maybe you got a great deal on leasing a juice bar kiosk. If thats the case, you should base the concept of your shop on your chosen location. For example, if the location is in a college town, youll want to create a concept that appeals to a young crowd.

If you have your heart set on a particular concept, youll need to find a juice bar location that can support it. Look for locations near gyms or in neighborhoods with jogging paths and outdoor spaces. Boardwalks, beach towns, and charming main streets are great for juice bars and smoothie shops. Performing a location analysis will help you understand the benefits and limitations of specific locations.

Smoothie prices range from $3 to $10 or more, so lets say yours will average $6. Your profit margin, after rent, overhead, and ingredients, should be about 30%.

In your first year or two as youre building your business, you could sell 70 smoothies a day, bringing in more than $150,000 in annual revenue. This would mean $45,000 in profit, assuming that 30% margin. As your brand gains recognition and people start coming back for more, sales could climb to 150 smoothies a day. With annual revenue of nearly $330,000, youd make a tidy profit of close to $100,000.

Choose A Juice Bar Concept And Brand

Choosing the concept of your juice bar is the starting point in your journey. Its also the most creative step along the way. You get to choose the theme of your shop, the types of ingredients youll use, and the way youll serve your customers. Check out these examples of juice bar concepts:

    • Mobile juice bar cart specializing in organic produce, vitamin supplements, and health tonics
    • Cafe-style juice bar with a food menu and co-working space
    • Smoothie shop with a build-your-own makeline where customers choose their smoothie base, ingredients, and add-ins

After you have a basic idea of your concept, you can work out the finer details of your brand. Your juice bar name, logo, menu options, and menu design are all part of your company branding and should communicate the same message.

    Design Your Recipes & Menu

    Juice Truck Renovation Start-To-Finish

Before opening your juice bar, youll also need to develop your menu and juice recipes. If youre new to juicing, finding the perfect recipes and ingredient levels can take some trial and error. Make sure you take the time to research popular ingredients and combinations, and have friends and family sample your recipes for feedback.

Popular juice ingredients and trends include:

    • Celery juice
    • Ginger
    • Lemon

Many juice bars also offer light food options like yogurt parfaits, salads, and sandwiches. If this is something you want to do in your juice bar, make sure your kitchen area is prepared and up to local health codes for food and not just juice.

Register For Business Licenses And Permits

Because a smoothie business involves handling food, you will also need to complete safe food handling training and earn proper licensure or certification, as required by your state. There are also a number of regulations that will need to be followed by your local health department in addition to regular inspections.

Your smoothie business will also need to obtain general local, state, and federal business registrations such as a sales tax permit, Employer Identification Number, and Occupancy Permit.

    Choose Your Business Structure

Business entities come in several varieties, each with its pros and cons. The legal structure you choose for your smoothie business will shape your taxes, personal liability, and business registration requirements, so choose wisely.

    Here are the main options:

We recommend that new business owners choose LLC as it offers liability protection and pass-through taxation while being simpler to form than a corporation. You can form an LLC in as little as five minutes using ZenBusinesss online LLC formation service. They will check that your business name is available before filing, submit your articles of organization, and answer any questions you might have.

The Rules And Regulations Of Operating A Juice Bar

Next in our guide on how to open a juice bar is checking out the regulations in force.

If you decide you’d like to serve food to accompany your juices, there are several requirements you’ll need to satisfy around health and safety. Before opening your juice bar, you’ll have to register the premises with your local authority’s environmental health service at least 28 days before you start trading.

It’s important to note that this process doesn’t cost any money. It simply involves allowing a local official to visit your premises to check out the space you’ll be using to prepare food and ensure it’s safe and hygienic.

After each inspection, you’ll receive a Food Hygiene Rating which, depending on your location, you may need to display in public view. To register for a visit from your local authority, check out the UK Government website.

It’s likely you’ll also want to play a bit of music to set the right atmosphere to open your juice bar. If so, you’ll need to apply for a music license when starting your juice. You can obtain one from the PLS PRS, with the price set depending on the size and needs of your business.

In the US, you will be required to register for a business license, as well as a food service license and a food handler’s permit. You can visit the SBA website for more details on how to obtain these.

Create A Digital Presence For Your Truck

Superjuice mobile juice & smoothie Franchise, Taunton, Somerset ...

Not all successful food truck entrepreneurs are social media stars, but that doesnt mean you should forgo a digital presence altogether.

As soon as youve settled on a mobile eatery concept and brand name, begin building a digital presence for it. Yes, you can and should take this step before purchasing a truck. As long as youre clear that your mobile food business is a work in progress, your digital presence will help build early buzz for it and hold you accountable to see it through.

Start with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts, plus and Yelp listings.

As your opening date approaches, work on building out a basic website. You can use a no-code builder like Wix or Squarespace if youre not adept with Web design.

You dont need an elaborate website or blog, just a bright, clean space with photos of your truck and food and satisfied customers once they exist with some text copy covering your backstory and inspiration, a current menu, and links to your trucks social media accounts.

Once your social media properties are up and running, create and follow a content marketing plan that includes regular updates on your progress toward opening and news about your location and menu changes once your truck is open for business.

And find ways to keep your audience engaged, like running Twitter polls about new menu items or Instagram photo contests with free food as a winning prize.
