Our family loves smoothies! My kids actually ask for them because they love them so much! We make many variations of smoothies, but they usually seem to have strawberries and bananas in them. This combination here is our favorite to date. We love all of the flavors and the texture of this one. The almond butter and almond milk make it taste almost like a milkshake!

Strawberry Banana Smoothie Ingredients
- With yogurt: I prefer plain dairy free Greek style yogurt like Kite Hill so this smoothie isnt overly sweet. My daughter prefers vanilla yogurt. Yogurt has the added benefit of probiotics.
- Without yogurt: If you dont like yogurt, you can use unsweetened almond milk. Use just enough to turn the blender.
How To Freeze A Healthy Strawberry Banana Smoothie
Yes, you can freeze smoothies! As I mentioned above, my favorite way to do this is to store it in a blender bottle so that when the smoothie thaws, you can shake it up to mix up all of the ingredients again.
If its frozen solid, make sure you thaw it in the fridge overnight, or keep out on the counter until its thawed.
You could also blend it again to get everything incorporated.

How To Pick The Best Strawberries
Look for local berries that are vine-ripened if possible. Late Spring and early Summer are usually the best times to locate local berry farms you can pick fresh strawberries for your personal use. Check into the you pick days for discounts and bring the kids along to help you grab the most berries. Not only can you clean and use immediately, but strawberries also preserve wonderfully when frozen, or made into pies, jams, and jellies.
Can I Use Fresh Strawberries And/or Frozen Bananas
If you do use fresh strawberries, I would recommend using frozen banana chunks.
If you want to use all fresh fruit, you other option is to add ice, which I do not recommend. Why? It waters down the taste of the smoothie. So be sure and use at least some frozen fruit to get the best taste.
If you use frozen everything, it usually becomes too thick and tough to blend. When I have done this in the past, I end up adding more almond milk, which again, waters down the fruity taste. So I like and recommend using a combination of frozen and fresh fruit best.

How To Make A Strawberry Banana Smoothie With A Vitamix Or High
The blender I recommend is the Vitamix. Read my post highlighting all the features of the Vitamix 5300.
If you want your smoothie to be smooth, add the smoothie ingredients to the blender in the correct order. If you dont follow this order, expect the blending to take longer. And expect to stop and scrape down the sides of the container.
Step 1. Add the liquid to the blender container.
Step 2. Sprinkle in dry goods .
Step 3. Toss in leafy greens.
Step 4. Pour in fruits and vegetables, if not frozen .
Step 5. Add the frozen ingredients and ice.
Step 6. After loading the container, place the lid on top.
Step 7. Turn the blender on to speed 1 or 2 until the blades have pulled in all the ingredients. Increase the speed slowly and blend until you reach the ideal texture. Use the tamper to push ingredients toward the blade. If necessary, stop and scrape the sides and blend again.
Can You Make Strawberry And Banana Smoothie Ahead
Yes, you can make this strawberry banana smoothie with almond milk ahead of time. If you want to make this ahead, I recommend one of two ways:
- Prep the ingredients: Place all of the ingredients, except the ice, in the blender. When you want your smoothie, add the ice and blend away. Make sure that the banana is under the milk so it doesnt brown, or just add the banana when you add your ice.
- Make-ahead: If you want to make this completely ahead, make the strawberry and banana smoothie as directed and store in a blender bottle. If youll eat it within the day, store in the refrigerator. If you want to make it further ahead than that, store the bottle in the freezer and take out to thaw the night before you want it. Give it a good shake until its all incorporated again and youve got a healthy breakfast on-the-go!
TIP: Meal prep this smoothie by freezing a few servings in blender bottles and take out of the freezer as needed.

Ice actually dilutes the fruit and leads to a lackluster flavor. Instead, for a truly flavor-packed smoothie, be sure to use frozen bananas. This will give you a chilled smoothie and maximize fruity flavor.
Work the blender up to its highest speed. I recommend starting the blender on a low speed and gradually turning the dial up. It is easiest to make smoothies in a high-powered blender with a tamper, like a Vitamix blender.
