Make Sure You Have A Good Blender To Make This Frozen Fruit Smoothie
You want to make sure you have a good blender. I have been thru some cheap ones and they barely last a week. They just cant handle the ice and frozen fruit.
Dont waste your time like I did with these cheaper models, and just get something nice from the get go. It will save you time and money!
I have a Vitamix now and I love it. We have had it for many years and its still working to make smoothies and more! Its paid for itself time and time again with all the money I have saved making smoothies and milkshakes at home.
Now, it is pricey but its truly worth it. You wont have to keep replacing it like with the cheaper blenders. Amazon has several of them on sale right now for a great price.
If you just cant make it work in the budget, I recommend a Waring professional blender. I think it is the next best thing and it will get the job done. Now, it is not as good as the Vitamix but its a close second for a more reasonable price. Amazon has several Waring blenders on sale right now.
Four: Add Ice And Blend
The amount of ice you use depends on how thick you want your smoothie recipe to be. Start with about 1 cup crushed ice for a fairly thick smoothie that is still drinkable with a straw. Omit the ice if using frozen fruit or if you want the smoothie to be thinner and less cold. Cover and blend until nearly smooth. Pour into a cup or thermal to-go drink container and slurp up every last drop.
What Type Of Water Should You Use To Make A Smoothie
Ok, heres where I am a bit of a stickler for filtered water. I do not think you should use plain tap water .
If you use the municipal water supply, you really must use a water filter.
Water filters are a whole headache to figure out, but long and short of it is to only get a filter that says it removes lead. There are a lot of water filters that do not remove lead.
Who buys a water filter that does not remove lead? Well, a lot of people. Thats because many water filters were changed years ago and now you have to buy a special water filter that removes lead.
So make sure that you are filtering your water. I use a standard pitcher filter design. But the choice of filter is up to you.
I would avoid using bottled supermarket water for a few reasons. First, those water sources are a bit sketchy. Unless you are reading up and doing due diligence on the water source, you might end up with some off brand that has lead or cryptosporidium in it.
Also, water in plastic bottles is dangerous. While it shouldnt be an issue if the water is properly stored, you have no idea about the supply chain and transportation of the water.
The bottles might have been left on a pallet in the sun all day . Also, they might have been left in a cargo van and froze and then thawed .
Plastic and the potential problems that it causes when leaked into drinking water are well documented. These include estrogenic problems.

How To Make A Watermelon Smoothie
It can be tricky to make a watermelon smoothie without a recipe, because watermelon itself is nearly 92% water. That means that if you toss watermelon cubes into the blender, youll end up with watermelon juice.
The trick to making a luxuriously thick watermelon smoothie is to freeze the watermelon cubes first. From there, other ingredients can add different effects to the texture.
- Personally, I love a creamy watermelon smoothie, so I took a note from my classic Strawberry Smoothie and Greek Yogurt Smoothie and added vanilla Greek yogurt. To die for.
- The combo of the creamy yogurt with the frozen watermelon and strawberries reminded me of the cream slushes we used to order at the drive-in.
- I prefer vanilla yogurt over plain yogurt in this recipe, as the vanilla adds necessary flavor and sweetness.
- Another option to make the smoothie creamy and sweet is to add a fresh or frozen banana. Watermelon and banana go well together. Do note that if you add banana to this recipe, the bananas flavor will be more pronounced.
How To Make The Best Banana Smoothie
My basic smoothie recipe calls for four simple ingredients:
Banana I use one banana to make one large or two smaller smoothies. For the best tasting smoothie, use a ripe banana. For the creamiest banana smoothie, use frozen banana slices. Ive shared how I freeze bananas for smoothies below.
Half an orange When I have oranges in the house, I love adding them to my morning smoothie. It adds extra vitamin C and tropical flavor. If you dont have oranges on hand, dont worry, you can substitute other fruits like mango, pineapple, and berries.
Plain or Greek yogurt I dont always add yogurt to my smoothies, but when I do have it in the fridge, adding a spoonful ensures a protein-packed and creamy smoothie. For a smoothie without yogurt, add a little extra fruit or include veggies like spinach or kale.
Water or milk To help the ingredients blend, I like adding a splash of liquid to the blender. For a smoothie without milk, use water. It still tastes amazing. For more creaminess add milk .
To make the smoothie, I add everything into a blender and then blend until smooth. For an icy cold smoothie, throw in a handful of ice or use frozen fruits.

How To Layer Smoothie Ingredients
The order in which you add the ingredients to the blender is important to creating a smoothie with a velvety smooth consistency. The way you layer smoothie ingredients depends on the size of the blender:
- Large blenders : Add wet ingredients first . Then add powdered ingredients, followed by the softer, high-moisture leafy greens, fresh fruits and vegetables. Last add hard, solid foods .
- Small blenders : Add harder ingredients first. Then add softer fruits and vegetables, followed by leafy greens and dry ingredients . Finally add the wet ingredients.
And to sum it all up, heres an infographic on how to make a smoothie awesome!

Can You Make A Smoothie With Water And Also Ice
Sure. There is no reason that you cant make a smoothie using water and ice. The only concern is that I would bring up is that Ice melts into a liquid.
So, if youre using both ice and water, remember to not add as much liquid as when you are adding ice.
I wrote up an article that covered the best personal blenders for crushing ice and in it I go into depth about how and why you want special blenders when using lots of ice.

Is Coconut Water A Diuretic
Ayurvedic studies have suggested that coconut water may also have diuretic effects but again, this isnt widely backed up by scientific studies. As with the laxative effect, a normal amount of coconut water isnt likely to act as a diuretic but you may experience some issues if you go ahead and drink a lot of it.The average smoothie isnt going to use enough coconut water to have this effect though so dont be afraid to use it in them!

Is A Smoothie Better With Milk Or Water
More liquid in smoothies will make it runnier. It is up to you how you want it. However, the extra fluid can make blending difficult for your normal blender. Milk will add extra taste, but it has some drawbacks too.
Milk is full of fat. Despite its nutrient contents, it will pile up extra plump on your body. If you want to have a more refreshing experience, go for water. You will keep yourself healthy and hydrated.
