How To Freeze Bananas
Frozen bananas are the base of so many smoothie bowls and smoothies. They add richness, creaminess, and of course, sweetness. To ensure you always have them on hand when you need them, here are a few ways to freeze bananas!
Option 1: Peel ripe bananas, cut them into 1-inch slices, place them on a parchment lined sheet tray and place in the freezer until frozen solid. Once frozen, remove from the sheet pan and store in a zip top bag.
Option 2: This is how I freeze my bananas, I find it quicker and easier, although a bit unconventional. Take your ripe bananas and place them directly in the freezer as they are. No need to peel. When you’re ready for a smoothie, take a frozen banana and run it under hot water. I place it in the bottom of the sink and let the water run over it while I gather the other smoothie ingredients. After a few minutes, the peel will soften and will slice right off. Break into a few pieces and you’re smoothie ready!

How To Make A Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie Bowl
I blended 1 frozen banana, 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 1 teaspoon chia seeds, and 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk in my Vitamix blender . I also threw in a handful of ice cubes. I only did this because my banana was not as frozen as I wanted.
The result was a smooth creamy delicious bowl of blended banana and peanut butter that seriously tasted like soft serve ice cream. Super good. If you are sensitive to dairy I recommend giving this a try because its a treat!
Then I topped it with 1/2 of a banana, 1 tablespoon peanuts, and 1/2 tablespoon of dark chocolate chips. Like I said this is where you need to be careful because too many toppings can cause this smoothie bowl to break the calorie bank. Because of the peanut butter this smoothie bowl is a bit on the higher side with calories and fat. However, keep in mind its a meal and filled with lots of wholesome goodness. You WILL be full after eating this. You can reduce fat, sugar, and calories by reducing the toppings.
I enjoyed this smoothie bowl after a 5 mile run/power walk and OMG did it hit the spot. I beyond loved it. I mixed all the ingredients together and felt like I was eating a nutritious blizzard from Dairy Queen. Not kidding.

Tips For Your Smoothie Bowl
With a smoothie bowl, there is not much that can go wrong. Create your delicious master piece with this smoothie bowl recipe!
- Keep it Healthy: The wonderful thing about smoothie bowls is that they can be good for you. But if you load them down with extra sugars and fats they can be a calorie nightmare. Keep it simple, measure it out, and enjoy!
- Blender: Having a good quality blender will make a huge difference in the consistency of your smoothie. Make sure your blender can handle the thickness of it. If you have an older blender or one that is not very powerful, no worries. Your smoothie may not have the same consistency but it will still be indulgent tasting.
- Add Milk for Consistency: You want your smoothie bowl to be thick, like soft ice cream. You should need a spoon to eat it with. Add the milk slowly so you can control how thick or thin your peanut butter smoothie ends up.
- Freeze your Bananas: Use frozen bananas for flavor, texture and to help create a cold smoothie. Peel overripe bananas and place them in a freezer-safe bag. They will keep for up to 2 months.
- Leave the Ice Out: Ice will add water, and water will make it runny and watery instead of thick and smooth.
