At the time, there were only four Smoothie King stores in Charlotte, so there was plenty of opportunities to earn market share with a relatively new concept in the area. Chris also emphasized the fact that it was the ideal location because of the healthy lifestyles of people in the area. Coupled with his personal connection with the brand, Smoothie Kings mission to inspire people to live a healthy and active lifestyle is something that resonates with Chris.

Chris signed the franchise agreement in 2003 while still living in New Orleans and opened up his first Charlotte Smoothie King store in 2004. In many ways, he was diving headfirst into business ownership and figuring out ways to make it succeedand, ultimately, using his position as a local business owner to promote Smoothie Kings mission in the community.

History Of Smoothie King

Smoothie King is a privately owned company that offers fresh and nutritious smoothies. They also offer other health products such as vitamin supplements, energy bars, sports beverages, and snacks. Founders Steven and Cindy Kuhnau of Kenner, Louisiana opened the first Smoothie King store in 1973.

Wan Kim, one of the stores franchisees in South Korea, bought the company in 2012. Since then, Kim has worked to expand the franchise into what it is today. With over 1,000 stores, Smoothie King remains to be the leading juice bar franchise in the country.

Could be replaced by almond butter or cashew butter but the taste will be different!
  • Milk of Choice: Choose a plant milk such as soy milk or almond milk or even oat milk for a vegan smoothie. You could also use regular milk though.
  • Dates: We prefer using Medjool dates for this recipe because of their ultra gooey texture and caramel-like flavors. If you canât find any, regular small dates will work as well but youâll need almost double the amount.
  • GroundFlax Seeds: They add some healthy fats as well as texture and help make the smoothie thick and creamy. Can be replaced by chia seeds.
  • Ice Cubes: Because thereâs no frozen banana added, we use ice cubes to achieve a creamy texture.

  • Liquids go first to make blending easier on the blades.
