Homemade smoothies are one of the easiest things to make in the kitchen. In fact, there are only 5 simple steps.

  • Select and gather your ingredients.
  • Wash the fruits and vegetables. Peeling, removing pits, seeds, and bad spots as needed.
  • Place all ingredients into the pitcher of your blender, measuring or weighing as necessary.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Taste, adjusting as needed until its perfect.
  • Out of all of those steps, the last one is the most important. When using fresh fruits and vegetables their flavor may not always be uniform. Todays strawberry smoothie may be sweeter than yesterdays. The best time to fix it is before its in your glass and youve cleaned up the mess.

    In this case, we used blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. However, any type of frozen fruit will work great!

    Our favorite is unsweetened almond milk, but cashew milk, coconut milk, oat milk, and regular dairy milk are all great options as well.

    To make the smoothie: Simply blend everything in a single serving blender and enjoy! Another option is to pour the smoothie into mason jars and freeze for quick smoothies throughout the week. Simply thaw in the refrigerator a few hours before youre ready to drink it !

    • To Store. Place smoothie in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.
    • To Make Ahead. Measure out your spinach and fruit ingredients for one smoothie, and store in a ziptop bag in the freezer. Repeat as desired. Store for up to 3 months, and remove each bag as needed for ready-made portions.

    Do You Have To Add Ice

    No, ice cubes are not necessary to make a smoothie, as long as youre using frozen fruits. Replace 1:1 ice cubes to frozen fruit is recommended. The ice will create a smooth, thick, chilly texture, or frothy if only a small amount is used. I like to add both ice cubes and frozen fruit together to create the perfect consistency.

    This week the internet exploded. Not because of political scandals, the return of Downtown Abby, or even because some guy raised a baby duck in his beard.

    No, its because with the new year comes new resolutions for better health and a plethora of new homemade smoothie recipes. Its a cool and refreshing domination of the www. and perfect timing to add mine to the pack with my tropical mango banana smoothie.

    Back in the day when I would drag myself into the office after my morning torture weight training session with my trainer, I would somehow will my legs one. step. at. a. time. to the community kitchen, meagerly toss a handful of ice into the blender, peel a banana, add a dash of milk and pour in a packet of protein powder. In my post workout trance Id refuel with a fantastic protein-powered shake that nourished my rebuilding-muscle tissue and keep me full and satisfied til lunch.

    Since I dont work in the office anymore, I can invest a little more time and effort into my smoothie cravings. Sometimes I get a even get a little exotic. Okay, maybe more tropical than exotic. Ah hell, who cares. Im going big, and going with exotic.

    Some Of Their ‘no Added Sugar’ Drinks Still Have Lots Of Natural Sugar

    Smoothie King considers only sugar and sugar derivatives to be added sugar. But fruit juices can add a ton of sugar and no fiber. Case in point, the Veggie Lemon Ginger Spinach has no added sugar but it contains, mangos, pineapples, and two different juices that bring the sugar total to 60 grams for the 20-ounce smoothie and only 6 grams of fiber.

    In an email to Eat This, Not That!, a representative for Smoothie King maintained that “natural sugar, like the naturally occurring sugar in fruit and fruit juices, is different from added sugar when it comes to a balanced lifestyle.” They also noted that the chain “uses whole fruit, dates, and fruit juices to sweeten many of its blends naturally and is intentionally transparent about which of its blends do contain added sugar and which do not so that guests can choose the smoothie that’s right for their own unique tastes and goalswhich could be different from one day to the next.”

    A Smoothie King representative disputed this former employee’s claims as “inaccurate” in an email to Eat This, Not That!. The chain “does not use coconut or peaches in any of its current blends or stock these ingredients in store. Additionally, its pineapple is not canned. As part of Smoothie King’s Clean Blends initiative, we are transparent and give guests a choice of whole strawberries or whole strawberries with added sugar based on our guests’ goals and preferences.”

    When Using Only Fresh Fruit

    If frozen fruit is not available, thats okay! Fresh fruit still adds body to the smoothie as the ingredients become pureed. However, you wont get that cool chill. Add in ice cubes, start with ½ cup to 1 cup of ice , add more until the desired consistency is reached.

    Just be aware that the more ice used, the more the flavor will dilute as the ice melts.

    Blueberry And Spinach Superfood Green Smoothie
