Ingredients For Banana Smoothie
Our simple banana smoothie recipe calls for simple ingredients, such as banana, milk, honey, ice, Greek yogurt, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
If you choose frozen bananas instead of fresh ones like we did, your smoothie will become an ice-cream-like slushie. Youll also need a strong blender because frozen bananas can be tough to blend.
Ice is optional, depending on how thick youd prefer your smoothie. Place half the amount of ice in the blender first and adjust its consistency by adding more later.
In terms of milk and Greek yogurt, there are plant-based options in store if you want to make a vegan smoothie. We went for fresh milk because its an easy option, but we actually prefer the complex aromas of milk made from walnuts and almonds.
Honey in this recipe is merely a sweetener. You can replace it with other options such as sugar, or simply leave it out, taste, and decide whether or not to include it.
Next, we infused the smoothie with vanilla and cinnamon powder, giving it the wonderful aroma of banana bread. If youre a big fan of this sweet treat, including these ingredients is mind-blowing.
Finally, we garnished our drink with baby mint leaves.

Is It Healthy To Have A Smoothie Every Day
If youre looking to put your own blender to use and start making smoothies at home, youre already one step ahead with saving yourself money and ensuring you have full control over what goes into your drink. Enjoying a smoothie every day is totally fine if you make sure it has a good balance of nutrients.
That said, dietitians say its actually better to chew and swallow food rather than drinking it for fullness, so its probably best to limit your intake to one smoothie a day and enjoy proper meals and snacks throughout the day. And if youre aiming to make your smoothie a meal, try to include at least 25 grams of protein if its a snack, go for at least 10 grams of protein.
These delicious, healthy smoothies make it easier to eat right with nutrient-rich fruit and veggies, creamy milk, protein, probiotic-rich yogurt, and other nutritious ingredients. Just a note: Some of these recipes contain fruit juice or honey to up the sweetness, but if youre looking to cut added sugar from your diet, you can nix those ingredients.

A Few More Smoothie Tips
When to drink your smoothie. Drink your smoothie as soon as possible after making it. The longer it sits, the likelier that it will start to separate. Plus, it will taste better the fresher it is.
Many people consider smoothies to be a breakfast food, but smoothies are great at any time of the day. We love lunchtime smoothiesas a meal replacement, not as a meal supplementand we also appreciate how much energy they give us before exercising. We think of smoothies as year-round treats, despite their often being thought of as summer beverages. Especially if you use frozen fruits, you wont need to choose your ingredients based on seasonal harvests.
How to drink your smoothie. This one sounds simple, right? Drink your smoothie bydrinking it. But there are some creative ways to consume smoothies that go beyond sipping. Smoothie bowls turn smoothies into more of a soup/cereal-style food. Another option is to freeze your smoothie and save it for later. Use a cup or muffin tin to create a smoothie cup. Or use a popsicle mold and stick to make popsicle smoothies!
Next time you make a smoothie, make it a plastic-free smoothie.
Millions of tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year. Experts estimate that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050. Please, dont use plastic straws when drinking smoothies.

How Do You Make A Smoothie From Scratch
In short, making a smoothie is as simple as tossing ingredients into the blender and letting it do the work. The harder part is deciding what, and how much, goes into the pitcher.
A homemade smoothie can be as simple or complex as you choose to make it.
You can make an easy 2-ingredient strawberry smoothie by blending together frozen strawberries and a bit of milk. Or you could get really complicated and make a 12 ingredient mega smoothie with enough calories to last the day.
Should You Rest Your Smoothies
Letting a smoothie sit tends to make it less frothy, but some smoothies willseparate quickly. For example, almost every green smoothie separates into a layer of green juice atop a chunky greenmixture after a few minutes.
Others fare better from resting. Anything with a lot of light or frothyingredients, or a lot of air whipped up into them, applies.
If youre in a rush, prepare the ingredients beforehand by chopping andmeasuring them. Start only when youre ready to eat! You can store ingredientsor even storesmoothies overnight in the fridge, if youre preparing for an earlymorning!
A thick smoothie can last in the fridge up to 24 hours while retaining itsflavor and texture. Thinner smoothies may separate before then. We prefer todrink immediately, though grabbing a drink prepared the night before is almostas good. To store a smoothie in the fridge, pour it into a tightly sealedcontainer such as a Mason jar. Unless you have a tight, screw-on lid for yourblender bottle, dont botheryoull get better flavor and have an easiertime cleaning up if you store it in something else.
In a pinch, you can put plastic wrap over the top of a glass.

There Is No Right Or Wrong Way To Make A Smoothie
These are recipes in a very loose sense of the world. Theyll give you a great place to start, but dont feel like you need to stick with them to make a delicious tasting smoothie. I do very little measuring when I make my daily smoothie and often will just throw in what I have on hand. If you are working with frozen fruit, you probably wont need ice. But if you are using fresh fruit, throw in some ice. A super cold smoothie is best if you ask me. If the smoothie is too thick or not blending well, add more milk.

How To Make A Smoothie
A smoothie is so much more than blended fruit. It’s an art with all of its different elements blending perfectly together. Just in case these 29 smoothies aren’t enough, here is our guide to making the perfect smoothie.
Pick your fruit.
We chose strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and bananas to be our base, but any combo of fruit is great. Make a tropical smoothie of pineapple, mango, and banana or add blueberry and peach to switch it up a bit for a summer twist. Aim for about 3 cups of fruit.
Fresh or frozen fruit?
For smoothies, frozen fruit is best. It blends up thicker than fresh fruit and gives you a really cold smoothie to enjoy after blending. If you don’t have frozen fruit, freeze your fresh fruit for 30 minutes before blending or add about 1 cup of ice and blend until smooth!
Add a thickener.
We use unsweetened Greek yogurt in our smoothie, but peanut butter, almond butter, or vanilla yogurt are all great options. Traditionally about 1/2 cup is ideal. If you prefer thinner smoothies, you can either lessen the amount of thickener or skip it all together.
Choose a liquid.
Almond milk is great for the added nutty flavor, but coconut milk pairs well with a tropical smoothie and gives a richer, creamier flavor. Whole milk or fruit juice also work well. 1 1/4 cup of liquid makes the perfect consistency for our preference. If you skipped the thickener, use less liquid as well.
Throw some add-ins in.
