The Seventh Rule Of Fertility Smoothies: Add Some Fat

Best Fertility Smoothie for getting pregnant!!

Like I said earlier, babies are made from protein and fat. You need plenty of healthy fat in your diet, especially since you have cut out all unhealthy fat if you are following a strict fertility diet. While you should be using healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil on your salads, your fertility smoothie is a great way to make sure you are getting enough fat in your diet.

Additionally, healthy Omega-3 fats help lower inflammation in the body , increase blood flow to the reproductive organs, and improve cervical mucus. They are also crucial to the healthy development of any little embryos that take root during the two week wait. Dont skimp on your Omega-3s!

The fats you want and where to get them:

Omega-3 essential fatty acid boosters for your smoothies: Walnuts, Walnut Oil, Flaxseeds, Chia Seeds, fish oils

PRO-TIP- SEED CYCLE IN YOUR SMOOTHIE!!!

Omega-9 essential fatty acid boosters for your smoothie: avacados, almonds, peanuts, pecans, cashews, hazelnuts, and macadamia nuts

Healthy saturated fat in the form of Medium Chain Triglycerides – Coconut Oil, Coconut Manna , Coconut Milk , or Coconut Cream.

Note: Never buy coconut products in plastic or in cans- these contain fertility-harming toxins. The little cardboard boxes called Tetra Pak containers are not ideal, but they are the best you can do until they come out with glass options .

What I do for my smoothies: I rotate through walnuts, walnut oil, coconut oil, coconut cream , various nuts and seeds, and avocados.

Switch Out The Greens You Consume In Your Smoothie

There is another requirement for your daily female fertility smoothie that can benefit your journey toward getting pregnant: Switch out the greens you put in it every day. In other words, you should avoid putting spinach in your smoothie on a daily basis. Even if its your favorite dark, leafy green of all, its better to mix and match your green ingredients so you can get different vital vitamins and minerals. In addition, consuming too much of one particular cruciferous vegetable can potentially lead to the development of hypothyroidism.

Building Your Perfect Smoothie

Now that youve selected your perfect pro-fertility ingredients in the perfect ratios, its time to make sure your smoothie comes together, perfectly.

Although making a smoothie isnt as complicated as making a baby, theres a basic architecture that we learned from our good friend and superfood chef, Julie Morris.

Heres how Julie recommends building your perfect smoothie:

  • Base: Toss in the hard, chunky ingredients first so theyre closest to the blades. This includes things like frozen fruits and nuts.

  • Bulk: Next add in the soft, space-filling ingredients like those leafy greens, nut butters, fresh fruit.

  • Powders/Superfoods: Top things off with any powders or superfoods youve chosen to add to the mix. This helps them stick to the unblended solids upon adding the liquids.

  • Liquid: Last but not least, fill things in with your liquid of choice. Liquids last ensure you dont get any splash back

  • Ice: If youre not using frozen fruit, this is a nice way to chill things down. Sometimes it helps to add the ice half-way through the blending process if you included lots of hard or bulky ingredients.

* Bonus points for venturing out and adding some superfoods into the mix!

The Eighth Rule Of Fertility Smoothies: Add Some Liquid

You wont be able to blend your smoothie without some liquid! Whatever liquid you choose, watch out for sugar. Avoid juices or coconut water which is high in sugar. I recommend that most women struggling with infertility avoid dairy, so using a milk alternative is a good way to get some extra calcium in and make your smoothies yummy. My first choice is unsweetened coconut milk, which I think makes the yummiest smoothies. You could also use an unsweetened almond or cashew milk- just make sure it doesnt have the icky additive carrageenan in it!

Top 5 Ingredients To Create A Fertility Smoothie

There are five ingredients that can turn your typical smoothie into a fertility boosting powerhouse by increasing the nutritional value.

1. Fruits & Vegetables: Because they are packed with vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, enzymes and fiber, fruits and veggies are essential to healthy fertility. Any raw fruit would do! Popular fruits are berries, mangoes, peaches, apricots, pineapples and bananas. As for vegetables, add a big handful of dark green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale, or try adding pureed carrot, sweet potato, or squash.

Another way to eat your veggies could be through just two teaspoons of FertiliGreens. FertiliGreens is a mixture of dried powdered leafy greens, wheat grass, spirulina, barley grass, with the added bonus of nourishing herbs.

2. Nourishing Liquids: Some liquid, about 1 cup, is necessary to make a smoothie the perfect consistency. Try fresh squeezed orange juice , coconut water, or a nut milk such as almond or cashew, even hemp, oat or flax milk are good choices.

3. Protein: Men need to consume 52 grams of protein daily and women need at least 46 grams of protein every day, a number that increases greatly for women in pregnancy . Protein added to a fertility smoothie can support balanced blood sugar levels and sustained energy levels. Great sources of protein are whey, nut and seed butters, and spirulina.

+ Fertility Smoothie Ingredient #7 Prebiotic + Probiotic

As mentioned above under #5, when gut bacteria becomes unbalanced our food and nutrients arent absorbed as well, and larger molecules are able to cross the gut wall, causing food sensitivities and increasing inflammation in the body.

Thus, incorporating foods that both feed the good bugs in your gut as well as those that help strains of good gut bacteria flourish are key for a balanced gut microbiome, equating to a healthier gut and healthier hormones.

A few of my favorite prebiotic-rich foods to add to smoothies include bananas, plantains and apples, while full-fat coconut or greek yogurt and kefir are complementary probiotic sources.

How Do Smoothies Help With Fertility

A proper lifestyle and a healthy diet can significantly reduce the risk of ovulatory disorders, so while a smoothie is not a remedy for all fertility issues, it can significantly help you maintain a proper diet and supply your body with what it lacks.

It seems quite trivial and obvious, but nowadays this issue is not so simple at all.

In a hurry, we often choose highly processed foods, which provide us with virtually no valuable ingredients.

What can you do then? Spend a few minutes every day preparing a smoothie with nutrients that can have a beneficial impact on your fertility.

    Smoothies Are Easy To Digest

For times when its hard to get a meal down due to nausea, heartburn, or digestion issues, a smoothie is a viable alternative. Liquids tend to empty from the stomach faster than solids, so a smoothie likely won’t feel like it’s sitting around in your stomach .

This can be helpful during periods of nausea or when you need to reduce symptoms of heartburn. You can also sip it with a straw and drink it slowlywhich is really helpful if nausea is in the picture. Cold foods are generally easier to tolerate when youre feeling nauseated since they do not typically have strong odors like warm foods do.

Taylor has created smoothies that are easy to drink and packed with components that include several food groups. Best of all, smoothies are not only packed with nutritious ingredients, smoothies are delicious and provide lots of flavor profiles to choose from.

No matter what you’re craving you will likely find something that sounds appealing. According to Yaffi Lova, RDN, of the Toddler Test Kitchen, The fiber provide is great for supporting healthy bowel patterns.

While there are plenty of amazing options out there, these are a few of my fertility smoothie faves:

+ Maca Powder An adaptogenic root from the Andes mountains used for over two millenia to promote fertility in both men and women. Has a caramel-like flavor that tastes great mixed in with chocolate or nut-butter based smoothies. Make sure to buy organic and gelatinized for optimal nutrient absorption.

+ Cinnamon Works to regulate blood sugar, a key pillar of hormone balance and fertility. Adds a sweet taste without any sugar. Helps mask the taste of greens/veggies. I especially love the Ceylon varietal for taste and benefits.

+ Cacao A rich source of magnesium, which works to lower cortisol levels in the body that, if too high, can delay or prevent ovulation. Makes smoothies taste rich and chocolatey. I love this brand.

+ Turmeric Improves blood flow to the uterus, necessary for embryo implantation and a healthy pregnancy. Works really well with cinnamon and ginger to create a golden milk flavored smoothie.

+ Ginger Works to lower inflammation tied to fibroids, cysts and endometriosis. Adds a warming, slightly spicy taste that compliments sweet potato or squash-based smoothies.
