Best Brain Food #: Avocados

A true superfood, avocados are packed with 20 different essential vitamins and minerals your body needs, notably vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin E, folate, iron, fiber, magnesium and potassium. Aside from being this absolute nutrient powerhouse, avocadoes are known for their healthy unsaturated fats, also called Omega-3 fatty acids.

Your brain needs oxygen by itself, it uses 20% of your body’s entire oxygen. Avocado’s healthy fats support a healthy blood flow which in turn is responsible for supplying your brain with oxygen. High blood pressure, by contrast, is associated with declining cognitive functions.

Avocados healthy fats can play an important role in preventing blood pressure-related diseases affecting cognitive functions and brain health. Other excellent sources of healthy Omega-3 fatty acids include fatty fish like salmon, trout, sardines or mackerel.

Best Smoothie Ingredients For Anxiety And Depression

The four best ingredients for brain development, all in ...

Almost everyone is struggling with anxiety at times. If the nervousness comes to a point where it prevents you from doing your everyday tasks, medical treatment is the most obvious solution. First though, or even simultaneously with the therapy, you should try a natural way. Some foods have proven health benefits, including a positive impact on the brain and our mental and emotional state.

Chia Seeds

Some foods have a positive effect on the production of certain brain chemicals. Chia seeds, which contain high amounts of tryptophan, are one of these foods. Tryptophan plays an important role in the brain chemistry. It promotes the production of the neurotransmitter, serotonin, which is known to relieve depression and anxiety.

Walnuts

Many peoples diet lacks Omega-3 fatty acids. According to one study, Omega-3 fatty acids can help to fight depression. Patients suffering from manic depression were given a placebo for four months alongside normal medicines, while the other group received omega-3 fatty acids. In the second group, the number of relapses was much lower.

Walnuts contain a high amount of Omega-3 fatty acids, making them an excellent smoothie ingredient if you are battling depression or anxiety.

Banana

High in folic acid and Vitamin B, banana is one of the most popular smoothie ingredients. Eating foods rich in those vitamins may help with depression or anxiety symptoms. The reason is that people who suffer from depression, often have a folic acid deficiency as well.

The 4 Best Brain Foods And A Smoothie That Has Them All

The Four Best Foods for Brain Health

And a Smoothie that has them all!

From Mind Body Green with my Australian translations in green!

Its common knowledge that you need food for energy and muscle repair, but what you might not realize is that certain foods can help to boost your memory, improve your mood, and provide protection against age-related cognitive diseases like Alzheimers or Parkinsons. As any organ in your body requires nutrients for growth and maintenance, your brain is no exception.

Even at rest, your brain uses somewhere between 20 and 30 percent of your energy intake, and more when youre problem solving. Now do you understand why it can be difficult to concentrate when you skip a meal?

You should, however, be smart about the foods you choose to fuel your brain, because when it comes to cognition, not all foods are created equal.

Your Brain And How You Feel

Start paying attention to how eating different foods make you feel. Do you feel anxious, depressed, or foggy when you eat certain foods? Is your sleep affected? Serotonin is a chemical that helps regulate your sleep and appetite, plus controls moods, and inhibits pain. Serotonin is the feel good chemical and 95 % of it is produced in your gut.

Since 95% of your feel-good Serotonin is produced in the gut, then its safe to say your digestive tract controls and guides your emotions besides digesting food.

Also, the production of serotonin is highly influenced by the good bacteria in your gut that make up your microbiome . Besides influencing serotonin production, the good bacteria in your gut help create a barrier against bad bacteria and inflammation. Good bacteria affects how well you absorb nutrients from your food and activate the nerve pathways the go-between the gut and brain. This is called the gut-brain connection.

    Best Brain Food #: Turmeric

    Blueberry Brain Food Smoothie

Turmeric has also been found to increase the levels of a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor which in studies has shown to have anti-depressant and stress-reversing effects on the brain. More than that, curcumin is believed to lower the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by helping to clear plaques in the brain and improving neuronal resilience against Alzheimer’s neuro-degenerative powers.

Now, if you don’t mind, let’s move from theory into practice with a selection of some of the finest brain smoothie recipes. What easier way to enjoy all these wholesome brain-boosting foods than in a fast, easy-to-make brain smoothie? So, lets go crank those neurons up a notch!
