Best Blenders For Smoothies
OK, youve got all of your smoothie ingredients prepped and ready to go, now how are you going to blend them up?
The key here is powerful.
You want to use a blender capable of completely mixing up all of the ingredients until they are smooth and creamy.
Here is a list of the best blenders for making fruit smoothies:
- Nutribullet A wonderful personal-sized blender option. Make sure you use the larger cup in order to fit all of the ingredients without going over the max fill line.
- Ninja Blender is also another great option!
What Is Milk Kefir
Kefir milk or milk kefir is really just fermented milk. It sounds kind of funny if you havent tried it, but its really just very tangy, not rancid or rotten tasting at all. Honestly, it kind of tastes like tart, drinkable yogurt. Most kefir milk is fermented with kefir grains which are a certain type of culture. Its very probiotic-rich so its great for your gut.
I like whole, cows milk kefir but many people also drink goat or sheeps kefir. As I said, it is thicker than milk, it gets that way during the fermentation process. After the first fermentation, you can flavor it with fruit, sugar or flavors, or just use it plain after the first ferment. Thats what I usually do. Learn how to make your own at home here!

Option Number 1 For Smoothies Without Milk
My go to liquid that I always like to use when making a smoothie is some sort of nut milk. I prefer to use almond milk as its got a nice consistency and a neutral taste.
Other nut milks such as cashew are a bit thick. They are fine if youre looking for a thicker consistency, but if you are only looking for a light liquid to add to the smoothie to give it a bit of a thinner consistency, then I would stick to almond milk.
What I would advise is that you steer clear of any almond milk that has added sugars. This can be a bit trickly as many of the almond milks sold have sugar added and they dont even say Sweetened on the front. So, make sure to read the back and always go for the unsweetened almond milk.

Is It Good For You
There are so many benefits from eating fermented foods. Mainly because of the probiotics that naturally occur from using a culture. I eat kefir to support my immune system and aid in digestion. The milk is also rich in calcium and protein, so I love adding it to my diet.
Sometimes, I can be sensitive to straight dairy products, but Im never bothered by fermented dairies like kefir or yogurt.

Unlike my husband, Ive always been more of a milkshake/ice cream lover than a smoothie lover.
But that all changed one night when my mother-in-law made this easy fruit smoothie using frozen fruit and yogurt. I skeptically took a sip and much to my surprise found it quite delightful. It was thick, creamy and refreshing!
In fact, I became such a fan that this simple fruit smoothie has become a regular Sunday evening dinner staple, as you may have seen on my frugal menu plans.

Can You Make A Smoothie With Water And Also Ice
Sure. There is no reason that you cant make a smoothie using water and ice. The only concern is that I would bring up is that Ice melts into a liquid.
So, if youre using both ice and water, remember to not add as much liquid as when you are adding ice.
I wrote up an article that covered the best personal blenders for crushing ice and in it I go into depth about how and why you want special blenders when using lots of ice.

Ingredients In This Oat Milk Smoothie
This oat milk smoothie recipe works for any type of frozen fruit. But you cant go wrong with strawberry banana! Its our favorite way to load up on healthy fruit that tastes like a dessert. Here are the ingredients youll need:
- Frozen strawberries : Strawberries are our go-to, but there are many more ways to mix and match this recipe.
- Fresh banana: All you need are two room temperature bananas. No need to remember to freeze them!
- Oat milk : Use plain or unflavored oat milk. You can use vanilla if you like, but sometimes vanilla flavors are overly sweet or artificial tasting.
- Ice: Ice adds just the right frozen texture.
- Maple syrup or honey : Whether you need it depends on the ripeness of the bananas. Sometimes frozen strawberries can also be very tart and need a little sweetener. Add a touch to taste.
How To Choose A Liquid For Your Smoothie
Weve gotten a lot of questions lately about what liquids to use with our smoothies. And since we are the all-encompassing smoothie experts, we decided to lay it down for you. Whether you are blending The Good Stuff or making your own concoction, this is our first guide for choosing liquids for smoothies.
Weve divided the liquids into three sections, based on your goals:
Liquids for Weight Loss
1. Water
Its a no brainer that water is the only calorie-free, sugar-free, money-free liquid option for your smoothie. If youre drinking smoothies for weight loss, water should always be your number one because drinking water helps you burn calories and stay hydrated. One study showed that participants who drank one extra liter of water per day burned 46 more calories. Which may not seem like much. But over the span of a year, that is equivalent to 5 pounds of fat.But if youre gunning for flavour or texture, like me, water may not be your best choice in a smoothie. With water, your smoothie will be less creamy and the flavour of your individual ingredients will be more evident .Goes best with: Wise Ninja2. Almond Milk
Goes best with: Easy Greens2. Coconut milk
Unsweetened coconut milk is the way to go!Goes best with: Diesel Monster
Liquids for Taste Alone
1. Juice
Unfiltered apple juice is a great juice to start with!Goes best with: Madagascar 2. Dairy milk

Why Can You Make A Smoothie With Water
The simple reason why you can make a smoothie with water is because water is a liquid.
I recently wrote a whole blog post that covered whether or not you could make a smoothie without liquid.
The takeaway from that post was that you really cant. You are not going to get a smoothie if you simply blend up fruits and vegetables. What you will get is either a frozen slushy or some sort of frozen fruit sorbet.
Liquid is key to turning fruits and vegetables into a smoothie. You need to add some liquid. It doesnt have to be water, but it should be liquid.
The liquid helps in breaking down the solids. Without the liquid, the solids wont breakdown into a smoothie like consistency.
It doesnt mean that you have to use water in your smoothie, but it does mean that you have to use a liquid.
The reason that water works is that it is a liquid.
Coconut water works because it is a liquid. Nut milk, almond milk, regular milk are all liquids.
The main similarity to all of these items is that they are liquids.
Use The Right Blender
Frozen fruits can be as tough as ice cubes. Therefore, you need a blender that is built to take a beating. Otherwise, youll end up damaging the blades and you will not be able to use the blender optimally anymore.
We have handpicked the best blenders for ice and frozen fruits that work best in this scenario. They are designed with the best machine and the perfect blades to cut through ices while blending your drink smoothly.
Who says great blenders are all expensive? If you need something cheaper, consider getting Hamilton Beach 58148A Ice Crush Power Elite Blender, even though we do not recommend blending plain dry ice cubes with it. But if you love something more high-tech, go for Blendtec Total Classic TB-621020. It has tec in its name! However, our top pick goes to Ninja BL660 Total Crushing Countertop Smoothies Blender. It is designed to cut through frozen fruits and ice with no issues while being both budget-friendly and durable.

How To Make An Avocado Shake
Be sure to start with a ripe avocado. You can tell if its ripe by squeezing the fruit very gently. Its ripe if it yields slightly to the pressure and feels just a little bit soft but not mushy.
If you buy an avocado thats hard as a rock, just wait a few days for it to soften. If you wish, you can place it in a brown paper bag for a day or two with another fruit to speed up the ripening process.
To make the smoothie, first peel the fruit and discard the pit. Blend everything together until smooth, and serve cold.
Feel free to double the recipe!
- 1/2of a large avocado
- 1 1/2cupscold milk of choice
- scant 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- sweetener of choice, such as 2 tbsp pure maple syrup or stevia to taste
- 1/8tspsalt
- scoop of protein powder,optional
Storing And Freezing Banana Oat Milk Smoothie
- To store: Smoothies can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Be sure to vigorously mix the smoothies before enjoying them, in case some of the liquid has separated.
- To freeze: Place smoothie in a shallow container or ice block molds and freeze for up to 6 months. When ready to enjoy, re-blend until creamy.

What Can You Make A Smoothie With Besides Milk:
There are quite a number of things you can use to make a smoothie besides milk. Im going to cover the main liquids that you can use instead of using milk.
Of course, you can also use simple fruits to make a thick smoothie and if you use enough high water content fruits and a small bit of ice, youll not need to use a liquid.
However, I always suggest that you use a liquid as it will make the blending process go more smoothly.
Why Use Frozen Fruit To Make Smoothies
Using frozen fruit automatically makes the smoothie thicker and more like a milkshake, which I love!I know some people like to add ice to smoothies, but I personally am not a fan of the watered-down flavor that gives.
I also find that its more convenient to use frozen fruit. I dont know about you, but I dont always have fresh fruit on hand- at least not enough to make enough fruit smoothies for our family of six.
But its easy to buy a couple of bags of frozen fruit and keep them in the freezer!

Blueberry Smoothie With Milk Recipe
Blueberry and milk smoothie is a healthy, delicious drink that no one can resist. The ingredients are simple, easy to prepare, and make.
Pour 2 tbsp. of honey, 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract, and 1 cup of frozen blueberry in the blender. Pour 1 cup of fresh milk or low-fat milk to the blender depending on your taste.
Blend them all together till the mixture turns smooth and soft.
Serve to a glass and enjoy it.
Can You Use Frozen Avocado
Frozen or fresh avocado will both work. Just be sure to peel the avocados first. If you have a high-speed blender, try freezing your milk of choice in an ice cube tray and using that for the avocado drink instead of refrigerated milk. This is especially good with canned coconut milk, because it tastes like an avocado milkshake.

How Do You Make A Smoothie Without Milk Or Yogurt
As you have read above, the best way is to use high liquid fruits and vegetables along with water, as necessary.
So what are the best high liquid fruits and veggies to use?
High water content fruits and vegetables
Below are some of my favorite high water content fruits and vegetables to add to smoothies.
- pineapple
- peaches
- apples
My personal favorites to add are cucumber , apples , and citrus fruits.
Pineapple, peaches, oranges, and lemons are all bursting with juiciness and great for replacing the liquid in smoothies.
Here are the steps that I take when making a smoothie without milk or yogurt:
Add liquid or liquid fruits and vegetables to the blender FIRST.
blend until smooth.
Add remaining ingredients and blend again until smooth.
Depending on the strength of your blender, you can skip step 2 and just mix all of the ingredients at once.
However, sometimes I find it helpful to blend the liquid parts first in order for the blender to handle the frozen fruit well.
