Of course, no one wants a thin or watery smoothie. And this three-ingredient mixed fruit smoothie is far from that, even without any yogurt or banana added.

In order to make sure your smoothie is thick, use FROZEN mixed berries . This will give your smoothie plenty of body. In addition, youll want to add some form of liquid to loosen the mixture and help it blend smoothly.

In this mixed fruit smoothie recipe, I use almond milk. However, you can use any other milk that you like, plant-based or cows milk. In fact, you can even use plain or coconut water to add some liquid to your smoothie.

A Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl Is Easy To Make

To my blender I add vibrant red frozen strawberries, ripe yellow bananas, sweet sticky dates and creamy almond milk.

I stick my finger into the creamy pink mixture for a taste and the flavors are a combination of sweet and tartoh the essence of springtime!

It is so simple, and ready in just a few minutes flat that I discover I have found a hidden gem that I will include in my repertoire of breakfast recipes.

I divide the delicious mixture between two bowls, top with freshly sliced strawberries, bananas and crunchy granola.

As my children see their breakfast bowls, their eyes sparkle with joy. Can a healthy breakfast bring that much joy and marvel to a morning?

Making delicious smoothies is a one-step process, and the blender does all the work. It goes a little like this:

1.Blend

Add all the ingredients to a blender in the order listed. Blend until smooth.

Berries are one of my favorite smoothie ingredients. They are low in sugar but packed with anti-oxidants. Unfortunately, they can be rather pricey during off-seasons.

Frozen berries are the perfect solution as they come at a more affordable price and gives the smoothie a more creamy texture. These berries are picked at the peak of their freshness when they are in-season and flash frozen to retain the nutrients. So you can enjoy them all year round.

Ive used coconut water in this recipe as the natural sweetness can balance the tanginess of the greek yogurt. Like banana, coconut water is also high in potassium.

What Is A Good Substitute For Banana

You can still make creamy smoothie by replacing banana with the following substitutes:

  • Greek Yogurt
  • Adding yogurt is probably one of the most common and effective way of creating a creamy smoothie without adding bananas. Greek yogurt has a thicker consistency and comes with higher protein content, compared to the regular yogurt. However, it taste more sour.

  • Frozen Fruits
  • Frozen fruits gives a thicker texture compared to fresh fruits, without losing the natural sweetness.You can use fruits such as mango, coconut or peach for an extra creamy texture.

    p.s. mango is also a high sugar fruit, so enjoy it in moderation

  • Avocado
  • Avocado provides a rich creamy texture and is a good source of healthy fats, which is not commonly found in other smoothie ingredients. Its mild flavor makes it suitable to pair with almost any fruits and veggies.

    You can use 1/4 to 1/2 avocado in a smoothie.

  • Chia Seeds
  • Chia seeds may look tiny, but they are packed with nutrients. They act as a binding agent to thicken the consistency of the smoothie. Chia seeds thicken more than flax seeds, which is another alternative.

    You can add up to 1 tablespoon chia seeds to the smoothie, but dont overdo it or you will find your smoothie in a gel consistency. In some recipes, Ive only added 1 teaspoon as I prefer a more liquid consistency. So, do test it out to determine your own preference.

    First, lets talk about what role a banana plays in a smoothie.

    Adds a smooth creamy texture. Most fruits are high in water so they create more of a slushy texture when blended. Not to say thats a bad thing but if youre looking for thicky creamy smoothie, bananas are a great choice.

    Adds sweetness. The more ripe a banana is the more natural sweetness this brings to a smoothie. This makes a smoothie more palatable especially if youre adding ingredients like kale, spinach, or other greens that tend to add some bitterness.

    Cheap and easy to find. Lets be honest, its a lot cheaper to add a banana to your smoothie than an avocado. Bananas are readily available in any grocery store and even the organic ones are very affordable.

    Ingredients For Raspberry Banana Smoothie

    Our raspberry banana smoothie recipe calls for:

    Fruits: As mentioned, we are using frozen raspberries. You can also use frozen bananas, to make the smoothie even thicker and more luscious.

    These ingredients are usually available in the frozen section of the market, but if you cant find them, make them at home:

    • For the berries, place them all into a bag and freeze away.
    • For the bananas, slice and freeze them on a tray lined with parchment to prevent them from sticking. Once theyre frozen, transfer them to a container/bag.

    Raspberries have noticeable seeds that may not be pleasant to eat. You can discard the seeds by simmering the berries in water for about 10 minutes, strain the mixture to remove the seeds and freeze the pureée to make smoothies.

    If you dont have sliced almonds, you can also pound roasted almonds into fine pieces. They will add a fun texture to the smoothie.

    To enhance the cooling effect, we blend the ingredients with some mint leaves. Feel free to add more to your liking.
