Ingredients In A Broccoli Smoothie

Can Smoothies Help You Fight Diabetes?

But first, we need some additional fruits and veggies to pair with the broccoli. Broccoli isnt my favorite vegetable so Im looking to fully mask the broccoli flavor. Quite frankly, I dont want to taste ANY broccoli in my green smoothie. You need the following ingredients to make this smoothie:

  • Broccoli I use raw broccoli. You can use left over broccoli, steamed broccoli or even frozen.
  • Mango I use frozen mango chunks but fresh ripe mangos will work here too.
  • Frozen banana
  • Strawberries fresh or frozen.
  • Fresh spinach I love spinach in my smoothies! The goal is to pack in a lot of healthy greens.
  • Pineapple juice this plays a role in masking some of that broccoli flavor plus pineapple juice is just really really good.

Is This Smoothie Keto

That all depends on your personal keto diet! It comes down to your preferences and what works well for your body.

This smoothie has 10.6 grams of carbohydrates and 2.9 grams of fiber. That leaves us with 7.7 net carbs.

As long as you keep the rest of your daily carbs pretty low, 7.7 net carbs should not push you over your carbohydrate limit. In that case, this smoothie fits easily into your keto diet!

However, some versions of strict keto do not include carrots as a keto-friendly food. After all, 100 grams of carrots contains 9.6 grams of carbohydrates and 2.8 grams of fiber.

Yogurt is another hotly-debated ingredient in the keto community. Some believe its fine, others say to stay away from it.

So in the end, it depends on whether or not you feel comfortable including carrots and yogurt in your keto way of eating. If yes, then you can absolutely enjoy this smoothie!

Fruit And Almond Smoothie

Start your morning off with this refreshing smoothie. Almond milk is lower in carb than regular milk and is great for people with milk or lactose intolerance.

How Smoothies Can Make Diabetes Management More Difficult

On the other hand, smoothies can work against you and make it harder to manage your diabetes. Heres why:

    Carbohydrate

Carbs arent bad, but too much doesnt do your blood sugars any favors. Depending on the type and amount of smoothie that youre drinking, you can easily exceed your carb goals , especially if your portion is large. Thats because smoothies may contain a lot of added sugar, particularly if youre buying one at the grocery store or at a shop.

    Calories

As you happily throw ingredients into your blender for a healthy treat, dont lose sight of the calories. Fruit, whole milk or whole-milk yogurt, nuts and nut butters, and even protein powders can pack a calorie wallop, making it a challenge if youre trying to shed a few or a lot of pounds.

Heres an example of how the carbs and added sugars can run amuck if you purchase a 20-ounce Peanut Power Plus Strawberry smoothie at Smoothie King . Note that this contains bananas, strawberries, peanut butter, dates, nonfat milk, turbinado , and protein blend.

One of the best things about smoothies is you can make them into your favorite flavors. There are soooo many options. Some basic flavor ingredients include:

    • Unsweetened cacao powder
    • Other flavor extracts
    • Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries
    • Coffee

If youre adding in any fruits, then make sure you take into account the carbs in fruits.

Dont forget that certain spices add more than just flavor to your Keto drinks:

    • Turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties
    • Cinnamon for its blood sugar regulation abilities
    • Matcha for all its antioxidants

    The Best Blender For Smoothie:

For sure to make a delicious smoothie you need a good blender that can crush ice into a drinkable slush and cut through frozen fruits, nut and seeds well. One of my favorite ones is the NutriBullet, just because it allows you to blend in the cup youll be drinking from. Its so practical and makes clean up a breeze. Every smoothie Ive made using it has turned out amazing!

Another one that I love is my Vitamix and its the the one item in my kitchen that gets used EVERY single day. Its one of my favourite tools in the kitchen. I make smoothies, my low-carb blueberry muffins, my mashed cauliflower and lots of soups with it. Its also make sauces, spreads and digs. I love it so much and really recommend it.

  • Cucumber Mint And Melon Smoothie:

TOP 4 Amazing Smoothies For Diabetics – Superfoods You Needs

For a crisp refreshing, salad in a glass, try cucumber, mint, and melon smoothies. Cucumbers are cold and crisp. I love to infuse water with them. For nutrients, they are a good choice for Vitamin A, phosphorus, manganese, and magnesium. They dont have any fat, salt, or carbohydrates. They pack a lot of fiber into your diet.Honeydew melon is a low glycemic index fruit. There are only about 60 calories in a cup of it, and only about 12 grams of carbohydrates. Its mostly made up of water, but loaded with fiber, and other minerals. You get some copper, B vitamin thiamine, phosphorus, niacin, and pantothenic acid.

I know what you will say about this next ingredient, but hear me out. Cauliflower, has 77% of your vitamin C needs daily. Its also a good source of vegetable protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, riboflavin, and thiamin. There is also B6, folate, phosphorus, and magnesium. You will be grinding the cauliflower up very finely. The other flavors will mask what you may have as a visual for a glass full of cauliflower. Just try it, trust me! I did. I will say it was surprisingly refreshing, and I will make this smoothie again. Nutritionally, mint leaves have a trace amount of vitamin A and C, but they are great to flavor this smoothie.

    How To Make A Smoothie

A smoothie is so much more than blended fruit. It’s an art with all of its different elements blending perfectly together. Just in case these 29 smoothies aren’t enough, here is our guide to making the perfect smoothie.

    Pick your fruit.

We chose strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and bananas to be our base, but any combo of fruit is great. Make a tropical smoothie of pineapple, mango, and banana or add blueberry and peach to switch it up a bit for a summer twist. Aim for about 3 cups of fruit.

    Fresh or frozen fruit?

For smoothies, frozen fruit is best. It blends up thicker than fresh fruit and gives you a really cold smoothie to enjoy after blending. If you don’t have frozen fruit, freeze your fresh fruit for 30 minutes before blending or add about 1 cup of ice and blend until smooth!

    Add a thickener.

We use unsweetened Greek yogurt in our smoothie, but peanut butter, almond butter, or vanilla yogurt are all great options. Traditionally about 1/2 cup is ideal. If you prefer thinner smoothies, you can either lessen the amount of thickener or skip it all together.

    Choose a liquid.

Almond milk is great for the added nutty flavor, but coconut milk pairs well with a tropical smoothie and gives a richer, creamier flavor. Whole milk or fruit juice also work well. 1 1/4 cup of liquid makes the perfect consistency for our preference. If you skipped the thickener, use less liquid as well.

    Throw some add-ins in.

Combine all of the ingredients in a high powered blender and blend until smooth.

    Yup. Thats it.

Pro tip: You can add more broccoli, spinach, or liquid to your liking. Taste as you go is key. I found that 3/4 cup of broccoli still tasted good the broccoli flavor was still masked, however the texture of the broccoli was more pronounced as I increased the amount of broccoli in the smoothie.
