Detox Spinach Green Smoothie
Start spring cleaning with a delicious Detox Spinach Green Smoothie.
Do you ever feel stuck? Like, I am currently in such a creative block. I havent been making new recipes regularly, as I have been in the past weeks, very few new material, and even writing seems like a chore.
I guess it happens to all of us, sometimes. Ideas and to-do lists, that I have. Its the execution part that is severely lacking at the moment.
Combine that with the recent re-apparition of my dairy allergy and I guess a detox diet is just what I need right now.
I guess it happens to all of us, the need to take a break, make a cleanse, disconnect. And when your job is sitting behind a computer all day long, writing a blog in the evening is sometimes not a top priority.
But this, too, shall pass, and coffee in the sunshine and delicious smoothies like this Detox Spinach Green Smoothie will surely help.
And this smoothie is really easy to make, too, and very healthy! And dont worry if you do not particularly like spinach you cannot even taste it in this smoothie!
So what do you say, give it a try?
Berry Spinach Smoothie Recipe
This Berry Spinach Smoothie is the perfect healthy way to start your day! Its full of vitamins and antioxidants and tastes amazing, too!
Happy Valentines Day! I hope youre all enjoying your day and that its filled with hearts, flowers, love, and CHOCOLATE!
Valentines fun aside, my kiddos and I have been a little under the weather for the past couple of days.
Sore throats, runny noses, not sleeping wellall of which leads to just feeling plain ole exhausted. This is my baby girls first time ever being sick. Iit makes me so sad to see her feeling all puny, and listening to her little baby snuffles.
My son is the same way. Whenever he gets sick, its ALWAYS in his chest. He will wake up coughing and crying, and sometimes we just have to spend the night sitting in the bathroom with the hot water turned on while the steam works its magic. After a night like that, we need a little whole food healing power.
I love smoothies for breakfast during the week, and theyre especially great when youre not feeling well and dont have much of an appetite. Even if regular-chewable food doesnt seem all that palatable, a nice cold smoothie is a great way to make sure youre still getting some good nutrition. Plus its a little easier on a sore throat than your typical breakfast fare.
Hope this finds you in happy, healthy spirits wherever you are. And if youve got a little case of the winter sickies, give this smoothie a try. It might just help kick that cold to the curb.
What Are The Health Benefits
Spinach is a superfood. It is loaded with tons of nutrients that are important for skin, hair, and bone health. The best way to consume spinach is raw, so it keeps all of the nutrients. So, if you are not a salad person, then a sweet, cold, and delicious smoothie is the best way to enjoy it. Besides the spinach, I use a banana and frozen mangos in this smoothie recipe, and each fruit has its own health benefits. This Spinach Smoothie is definitely GOOD FOR YOU!

Is It Healthy To Eat Berries Everyday
Yes! Eat berries as often as you are able to take advantage of the amazing health benefits. Not to mention they taste delicious.
Here are some other ways to eat berries beyond blending them into a smoothie:
- Top oatmeal, yogurt, toast, pancakes, and waffles with a giant handful of berries to add natural sweetness and beautiful color to your breakfast!
- Add a serving of berries to a green salad
- Pair a serving of berries with a serving of nuts for a nutrition-packed snack.
- Think outside the box: add berries to homemade pizza or sandwiches, make homemade chia seed and berry jam or sauce, make fruit kabobs to go with dinner, etc.
Should I Use Frozen Or Fresh Fruit In This Banana Spinach Smoothie
This smoothie is awesome with fresh banana, but it can also be made with frozen banana you do you!
Frozen banana will make the smoothie extra creamy and frosty, and its nice because when you use a frozen banana you dont have to wait for the banana to be that perfect ripeness level.
You can read the best way to freeze a banana in my Healthy Recipes for Overripe Bananas post. You might also enjoy some of the other recipe ideas in that post, too!

So How Do You Prepare A Spinach Smoothie
When preparing spinach smoothie recipes, as in the case in most other greens, feel free to experiment and include a wide variety of other fruits and veggies.
The great thing about spinach is that its mild tasting, so its a perfect starter green for green smoothies. Even the most picky eaters wont mind a few leaves of spinach in their fruit smoothie .
Generally speaking, Vitamix or Blendtec blenders will do a great job with any type of greens, including the tougher greens such as kale, collard greens, or celery tops. These smoothie makers will give you smoother liquid, compared with other blenders.
However, even if you have an inexpensive blender you can make spinach smoothies without worrying about rough texture spinach is soft enough, so most blenders will handle spinach well.
First, when buying fresh spinach it should be dark green and free from any evidence of decay. Choose spinach that has vibrant deep green leaves and stems with no signs of yellowing. The leaves should look fresh and tender, and not be wilted or bruised. Avoid those that have a slimy coating as this is a sign of decay. Slightly wilted spinach can be revived to freshness by dipping it in cold water.
Do not wash spinach before storing as the exposure to water encourages spoilage. Place spinach in a plastic storage bag and wrap the bag tightly around the spinach, squeezing out as much of the air as possible. Place in refrigerator where it will keep fresh for up to 5 days.

One note here on using frozen fruits in your smoothies. Personally, I dont like smoothies that are really cold, so if Im using a lot of frozen ingredients, I add some hot water to the mix to make them room temperature. I know that many people like frozen drinks, but drinking a lot of frozen smoothies is not really that healthy, in my opinion.
I admit I am totally hooked on green smoothies!
Tips For A Smooth Kale Spinach Smoothie
So, now you made a smooth green smoothie. How do you make it even better?
Toppings. Toppings. Toppings.
Green smoothies can be somewhat nauseating to look at at first. Adding some toppings can make it look like something tropical and drinkable instead 🙂 Thats not the only reason though. Adding healthy toppings like chia or hemp seeds can take your very healthy kale spinach smoothie and turn it into an Ultra-Insanely-Healthy-Super-Power-Inducing-Kale-Spinach-Smoothie! And who doesnt want/need one of those?
I chose to add white chia seeds. Theyre nutritionally the same as black chia seeds but I dont think my smoothie could have handled another dark ingredient. Oh, and dont forget that lemon slice. I like to squeeze more lemon into my smoothies as I drink it. I might just be weird though

Since spinach is lightweight, it makes cup measurement a little confusing.
Hence, you should pack the leaves tightly into the measuring cup to ensure the correct serving size.
Take note that a cup of raw spinach is equivalent to 30 grams.
Unlike when cooked, raw spinach doesnt shrink and is, therefore, more nutrient-dense for a single cup.
Fitting the leaves snugly into the cup will also guarantee accurate nutritional content.

Should You Boil Spinach For Your Smoothie
You may do so.
However, it is not necessary since processing the leaves into a smoothie already produces an edible and ready-to-drink beverage.
Besides, studies have found out that boiling spinach will leach the important nutrients through water. Instead, steam the spinach until theyre slightly tender enough for the blender to process them efficiently.

What I Love About This Spinach Smoothie:
- Fast you can literally have this ready to go in under 5 minutes! I always keep spinach in the refrigerator and frozen fruit in the freezer, making this healthy smoothie that fastest breakfast to throw together.
- Healthy. I love spinach because its low calorie and packed fiber and minerals. I also love adding flaxseed and chia seed for even more protein and fiber.
- Customizable change it up by adding different greens, different fruit or even throwing in some peanut butter or rolled oats! See more variation ideas below.
Is It Good To Put Spinach In Smoothies
Absolutely! Smoothies can often be very fruit-forward so adding in some veggie or leafy-green goodness is always a plus in my books!
Spinach has a ton of nutrients and health benefits which I share more of below, so it makes a great, healthy addition to many smoothies and wont affect the overall flavour very much at all.

How To Make A Peach Spinach Smoothie
You may see down in the recipe below that I suggested that you blend the spinach with the milk first. Theres a very practical reason for this: If you toss all the ingredients in the blender together, you may end up with chunks of spinach in your smoothie. While that may be okay for most of us, for the kiddos and reluctant greens eaters , blending it well is super important. So make sure you do that first!
And here are a few more tips:
- Use frozen or fresh peaches for this peach spinach smoothie. While we used frozen, fresh works fine and actually gives it a little more flavor. Theyre just not in season for us right now. Boo! But if you do use fresh, non-frozen peaches, youll need to add some ice to your smoothie .
- Freeze your bananas first. I recommend this for any smoothie recipe that calls for a banana. I think I mentioned before that I keep Ziploc bags of bananas in my freezer all the time. Its so handy to just reach for one whenever I need it! I freeze overripe bananas as well as just ripe ones. The overripe bananas are extra sweet, though.
- Thin smoothies with milk or juice. In this instance, youll want to use a little extra almond milk if your smoothie is too thick. Personally, I dont think theres such a thing as a smoothie thats too thick!
Are Green Smoothie Recipes Healthy
What we eat can truly transform our bodies and our lives in powerful ways. Especially with this smoothie recipe as I’ve seen in the lives of so many of my friends, family and community online. Blending spinach into a fruit smoothie is a great way to boost your immune system, as well as naturally energize you.
Most smoothies are made with just fruit and liquid, which is high in sugar and can cause inflammation. A green smoothie, on the other hand, is made with fruit, plant-based liquidand leafy greens.
This recipe is full of iron, potassium and vitamins galore and tastes like a tropical treat from all the island fruit. Yet the best part is how simple as well as quick it is to make! You only need 4 ingredients and all of them can be found at your local grocery store . As I say all the time I’m all for making healthy eating affordable so it’s sustainable.
A green smoothie can taste just as good as a regular smoothie, and also have incredible health benefits.

What Is The Best Blender
The struggle with finding a quality blender within budget can be real tricky. It took me years to finally get the vitamix I now have and the only reason was because my husband gifted it to me. And even then, he found a refurbished one!
That being said, Ill share my insight and experience with various blender options below. Hopefully it can help you a bit in the search for what works best for you!
Vitamix I have a refurbished standard model of the Vitamix and love it. Its the most powerful and efficient blender Ive ever used and can be used for everything from smoothies to soups, sauces, nut butters, homemade nut milk, and more. Its also easy to clean and they have great customer support with lots of replacement options available if needed. They can be quite pricey though so I suggest looking at dependable refurbished options or investing in an explorian model if youre financially able to.
Ninja Ive used both their stand blender and small top blender before. The stand blender definitely has more power and is better for large portions or harder to blend ingredients. The small top blender is great for small spaces or if you only plan on making blends like a smoothie, frothy drink, or pulsing nuts/seeds, etc.
