Its like sipping on a tall glass of summer, only you can enjoy it year-round. You just need a blender and 5 minutes to make it happen! And if youre ever looking to change things up, you can easily adapt this smoothie to suit your cravings.

Strawberry Protein Shake Ingredients

Before we get to the recipe, lets discuss ingredients. To make this strawberry protein smoothie, you will need:

  • Protein Powder: This boosts the protein content of your smoothie immensely. If you can, use a natural and organic protein powder that contains no additives, fillers, artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives. I love and use this one from Thrive Market.
  • Milk: This serves as the liquid base for the smoothie. I usually use full-fat organic dairy milk.
  • Strawberries: These not only give the smoothie delicious fruity flavor, they are also packed with vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. Either fresh or frozen strawberries will work just fine in this recipe, and buy organic if you can.
  • Banana: This gives your smoothie a rich and creamy consistency. It is also a great source of potassium and dietary fiber.
  • Honey: This adds natural and unrefined sweetness. Not all packaged honey is created equal, so I recommend using one that is 100% pure, raw, and unfiltered for optimal health benefits. I use this one from Thrive Market.
  • Ice: This helps thicken the shake. Although, if I dont have any ice in the freezer, I just make my protein shake without it.

If youd like, you can make your strawberry banana smoothie up to 24 hours ahead of time. Keep it in a mason jar in the fridge and shake it well before enjoying it. You can also freeze your smoothie for up to 3 months using the method below.

Pour your smoothie into an ice tray and freeze it until its frozen solid, then transfer the frozen cubes to an airtight container. You could also freeze the smoothie directly in the container if you leave extra space for expansion. Thaw out your smoothie in the fridge, shake it thoroughly and drink up!

    Getting The Right Consistency

The trick to making the perfect smoothie is getting the amount of liquid just right. Instead of adding all the water at once, I recommend adding it gradually until you reach the desired consistency.

The reason is that the amount of water in your strawberries and banana can vary. Frozen strawberries will also be different from fresh.

I dont think anyone wants a watery smoothie. So my best advice is to add the water slowly.

    The Perfect Tasty Snack

This protein smoothie is one of my favorite ways to refuel after a good workout. Its super easy to make, delicious, and has 25 grams of protein for a perfect workout shake.

Its also a great breakfast shake to start your day, or a wonderful mid-afternoon snack to cool you down on a hot day.

Theres never a bad time to enjoy a healthy, delicious smoothie!

    How To Make Smoothies Thicker

Youll notice in a lot of my smoothie recipes that I opt to use frozen fruit rather than ice. While ice is nice in adding instant chill and bulk to smoothies, Ive found that it makes them too watery .

Instead, I like to freeze fruit and throw that into the smoothie to make it thicker and more frosty. In this Strawberry Banana Smoothie, were using frozen strawberries for their convenience and cost efficiency, but you can also peel, chop, and freeze your bananas ahead of time for smoothies. I like to do this with my soon-to-go-bad bananas to give them a second shot at life.

    Only Have Fresh Fruit

If you only have fresh fruit, then you have a couple of options.

  • Freeze your fruit: strawberries and bananas can easily be frozen. This process will take around 2 hours, but you can follow our frozen banana tutorial. It works the same with strawberries!
  • Use ice: this would be our last resort suggestion only because ice dilutes your smoothie, however, it is a good option if you only have fresh fruit.
  • Whats The Difference Between A Smoothie And A Shake

    Strawberry Banana Oatmeal Protein Shake

Most people love smoothies and shakes, some dont really know the differences between them because after all the both cold and refreshing, drinkable, and delicious! In my opinion it all comes down to ice cream. . . yes, its true!

Smoothies do not have ice cream, candy bars, cookies or pies in them. Smoothies are filled with healthy for you ingredients like fruit and veggies and healthier forms of protein and dairy.

Dont get me wrong. . . I enjoy them both as probably most of you do too! I just enjoy smoothies on a more regular basis and shakes wellllll theyre a more special occasion or dessert kind of treat.

YogurtNonfat greek yogurt is a great way to add protein and richness to smoothies for a low amount of calories. You can substitute with dairy free yogurt or full fat yogurt. You can also skip the yogurt, but may need a little bit more milk.

Milk Any milk will work in this recipe. Almond, Dairy, or other non dairy milks will all work.

    Simple Strawberry Banana Protein Smoothie

The other night I was lying in bed watching everyones Snaps, and saw this semi-celebrity that I follow post that she just made her first smoothie ever. And my reaction was like, I dont understand? Its 2016, who has never made a smoothie? But then I realized I need to remember that not everyone revs up their blender in the morning. Like if my apartment caught on fire, I would first grab my Vitamix, then probably my Louboutins, and then run out the door. Everyone has their priorities.

So today we are bringing it back to the basics. A Strawberry Banana Protein Smoothie that is so simple and delicious, those who are new to the blender game will have no trouble at all. For my S4B vets, get creative with this one and add in some extras like flax meal, chia seeds, or maca powder. And you can always throw in some spinach or kale to make it green.

  • 10 oz of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 big handful of frozen strawberries
  • 1 scoop of vanilla plant based protein
  • Add all ingredients to a blender, and blend until smooth.
  • I peel a bunch of bananas ahead of time, break them into large chunks, place them in a ziplock bag and store them in my freezer. That way they are ready to go when I need them.

    Strawberry Banana Protein Shake

Strawberry Banana PROTEIN Shake Recipe (40g Protein)

This strawberry banana protein shake is thick and creamy, so easy to make and perfect for a post-workout snack or light breakfast. This vegan recipe is high in protein and loved by kids!

Protein shakes are a protein drink typically consumed after a workout in order to help with muscle recovery. Protein shakes are usually made with frozen fruit, a protein source such as protein powder or greek yogurt, and a liquid such as almond milk.

Smoothies and protein shakes are essentially the same, but shakes can sometimes be a bit thicker than smoothies. While you can always buy pre-made protein shakes, my personal favorite way to do them is right at home so youre in total control of the ingredients.

All youll need for this recipe is banana, strawberries, cauliflower, milk, protein powder and greek yogurt. You can make this vegan or not, thick or thin, however you like it!

Does adding protein powder to a smoothie change the taste at all?

    Tuesday 8th of April 2014

It depends on the flavour of the protein powder. I prefer vanilla powders with no artificial sweeteners in them so that they only add a light vanilla taste to it.

How Do You Make A Thick Smoothie

    • A good blender is particularly helpful if you’re wanting to make nice, thick smoothies. A cheap blender just doesn’t have the power necessary for a super thick concoction. More power gives you the ability to blend your frozen fruits with less added liquid, giving you a thicker final product! I absolutely LOVE my ninja blender, it’s truly one of the best things I own. You can use any blender to make delicious smoothies, but I recommend investing in a nice one at some point. They make all the difference in the kitchen and can be used for endless recipes.

Is It Better To Drink A Protein Shake Before Or After A Workout

A number of studies show that protein helps your muscles to repair and rebuild after exercise. For that reason, many people drink protein shakes after their workouts to aid this process.

However, recent research suggests the amount of protein you consume per day is more important than when you consume it for gaining muscle mass. Therefore, you can choose which time you prefer or is most convenient for you. Personally, I always opt to have a protein shake after hitting the gym, but thats just what works for me.

What Type Of Protein Powder Is Good In A Smoothie

These days we have a whole lot of great choices, when it comes to protein powder.

As far as flavors go, Id recommend either a vanilla protein powder or an unflavored one for this recipe.

Then you will want to choose one that has nutrition FAQs that will meet your dietary needs.

I typically choose an organic vegan protein powder with 20-25 g protein per serving, while the guys in the house prefer a powder with significantly more protein than that.

Some favorite brands are Orgain, Vega and Garden of Life.
