Thick Or Thin Strawberry Banana Smoothie

3 ingredient Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl | SweetTreats

I prefer thick smoothies for breakfast and thinner ones to snack in between meals. Finding the right consistency for your smoothie is easy.

  • For a thicker smoothie, just use some more frozen fruit. Add the frozen fruit gradually, until you get the desired consistency. Be careful though, since adding too much frozen fruit may result in an icy smoothie and thats not what we are aiming for. Smoothies must be creamy.
  • For a thinner smoothie, its all about adding more liquid to the mixture. Liquid ingredients consist of plant based milk, fresh fruit, juice or even water. As for the smoothie in this post, adding some more coconut milk will do the trick.

In case youre looking for a thinner consistency but using a less caloric alternative, then add fresh strawberries to your smoothie instead.

How To Make A Smoothie Bowl:

All you need to do is add all the ingredients to the bowl of a blender and mix until smooth, creamy, and combined. You want to make sure you have a good blender thatll handle mixing up frozen fruit. To make it easier, you can cut the bananas into thick slices.

Once youve mixed all the ingredients, give the mixture a taste. If you think its too thick, add another splash of milk. If you want more sweetness, add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.

I recommend having your toppings ready to go so you can instantly top and enjoy the bowl before it starts to melt and thin.

Can You Use Overripe Bananas

Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl

I dont know about you, but when I have overripe bananas on my counter, my first thought is that its time to make Coconut Flour Banana Bread.

If your bananas arent totally black and mushy, its fine to use them in smoothies.

Remember, the flavor of the banana will transfer to your smoothie, so you want to make sure the flavor of the bananas are still appealing to you. Bananas with lots of brown spots are perfect for smoothies, but if the skin is getting borderline-black in color, Id use them for baking instead.

Strawberry Banana Acai Bowl

THICK Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl for Valentine’s Day!!

A few years ago I discovered Acai Bowls on a trip to Mission Beach, CA to visit my best friend, Josh. We went to this adorable little cafe that had a massive patio for customers to enjoy the warm, *humidity-free* San Diego weather and there was an acoustic guitarist playing seaside tunes such as Jimmy Buffet and Jack Johnson. The setting was pretty much perfect and so was the food. The server brought us out a massive white bowl full of a beautiful purple smoothie topped with loads of granola, strawberry, banana, and coconut. It was love at first sight

Acai Bowls are essentially really thick berry smoothies with the addition of delicious toppings such as fresh fruit, honey, granola, etc. Theyre one of my favorite breakfast items because theyre easy, nutrition, and filing. While you can make a smoothie bowl without acai, you should definitely give acai a try because its really delicious and super good for you. If youre looking for a good blender, I use my Nutri Bullet and I can easily whip one of these up in just a few minutes. Try to keep the smoothie as thick as possible, using only enough liquid to keep the blender going. This way you can add tasty toppings without them sinking immediately to the bottom.

There are so many choices for toppings for your strawberry smoothie bowl, depending on your taste and texture preferences.

Smoothies are easy toddler snacks because you can have your toddlers pick the fun toppings they want! I get the majority of these toppings from Thrive Market.

Expert Tips And Tricks

  • Freeze fresh strawberries. Fresh strawberries will have the most flavor and will be the sweetest. Freezing them captures that flavor and still results in a cold and creamy consistency.
  • Add extra nutrients. Make this smoothie even healthier by adding in spinach, protein powder, oats, and even more fruit.
  • Start with the banana. Loading the blender with the softer ingredients next to the blade allows for easier mixing.
  • Test for sweetness. The amount of sweetener you need depends on how sweet your fruit and yogurt is. Sample the smoothie then add the sweetener as needed to taste.

Recipe Tips And Tricks

  • If you dont have frozen fruits, use un-frozen ones and add a few ice cubes to the blender while blending.
  • Also, if using un-frozen fruits, reduce the amount of milk in the recipe.
  • For me, the sweetness of fruits is sufficient in smoothies or sometimes I add a healthy sweetener like 1-2 dates. If you prefer a sweeter smoothie add any sweetener of your choice.
  • If you use dates in the smoothie, I would recommend adding Medjool dates.
  • In the blender put the liquids first and then add the other ingredients. It will make the blending process easier.
  • The banana gives a body to smoothies and makes them creamier. However, it also has an overpowering taste. If you dont like the taste of bananas skip it and add more strawberries. Also, reduce the amount of milk in that case otherwise the smoothie will become runny.

Tips For The Ideal Smoothie

This is one of those basic recipes that you just cannot get wrong, but there are things you should always keep in mind whatever kind of smoothie you are making.

  • Order Matters: To get that perfectly smooth creamy texture you want to layer your greens and liquid closest to the blades. Then add your frozen fruit and add-ins. So if your blade is on the bottom layer the liquid then greens, then the rest. If your blade is the lid, place half the liquid in the bottom, add in the frozen fruit and add-ins, place the greens last and add the rest of your liquid.
  • The Mixer is Vital: You want to make sure your blender is up to the task. If you are a smoothie addict, it is worth investing in a powerful blender that can get the job done and not burn out.
  • Leave The Ice Outand Opt for Frozen Fruit: Adding ice to make your smoothie cold actually just dilutes your smoothie. Using frozen fruit will create a thick smooth cold smoothie with all the flavor intact.
  • Sneak in Those Greens: Smoothies are a great way to add greens to your diet without having to actually taste them. Adding spinach and kale are two of the favorites which add nutrients without a ton of flavor. Use baby kale and spinach for sweeter flavors which are easier to blend.
  • Protein and Fats: Smoothies are a great way to add in protein and healthy fats that can help you feel fuller longer. Nut butter, chia seeds, hemp, flaxseed, and even frozen avocado. Trust me avocado creates the smoothest creamiest smoothie youll ever have.

Ingredients Needed For Making A Smoothie Bowl

THICK Strawberries and Cream Smoothie Bowl Recipe

Ingredients Needed for Making A Smoothie Bowl: For the smoothie bowl: mix the oats, almond flour, vanilla extract, milk and water in a bowl. You can also add in any other fresh and/or frozen fruit such as strawberries, banana, blueberries etc. For the base: add the coconut flakes, almonds and chia seeds in a bowl. You can also add in any other ingredients such as vanilla extract, honey and cinnamon etc. In a pan, pour in coconut oil, coconut butter or coconut oil and coconut butter and bring it to a medium heat. When you see the coconut oil is beginning to melt, add the oats and blend to form a thick consistency. When the coconut oil has melted, add the vanilla extract and honey. Add all the banana and strawberries in and mix everything. The chia seeds will begin to absorb the liquid in the bowl and start to thicken. If you like your smoothie bowls soft, just add a bit of more milk.

Ingredients For A Smoothie Bowl:

Frozen strawberries and a frozen banana: I really like frozen fruit in a smoothie bowl, it adds a creamy coldness and thickens the texture. Whenever I have bananas that get too ripe, I do one of two things. Either make banana bread, or peel and freeze them in a freezer bag to have on hand to throw into smoothies.

You dont need to buy frozen berries, if you have fresh strawberries on hand, just wash, remove the leaves and stick them in the freezer.

Milkof choice: You can use regular milk, oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk or any milk you prefer!

Maple syrup or honey: Just a touch to add sweetness to the bowl. I really like adding some, but you can leave them out if you prefer.

Nut butter: Another optional mix- in. I absolutely love the subtle nutty flavor that adding almond butter or peanut butter adds, but you can leave this out entirely. I prefer using the healthy nut butters, the ones that are just nuts without sugar added.

How Long Can You Keep A Banana Smoothie In The Fridge

Bananas do turn brown rather quickly, so the best way to enjoy a banana smoothie is right after youve blended it. If you do plan to make ahead or have extra that you want to save for later, it should hold up in your fridge for up to 2 days.

Note that the longer that your smoothie sits, the fewer nutrients will remain, so if you want to reap the health benefits and get the best taste, then drink up at soon as your smoothie is made.

Ingredient Notes And Substitutions

To make a delicious banana and strawberry smoothie bowl, you will need:

  • Frozen banana. To make this smoothie bowl thick and creamy, you will need to use a sliced, frozen banana. If you use a fresh banana the consistency won’t be as thick.
  • Strawberries, fresh or frozen. I like to use frozen strawberries because I like to have a super thick smoothie bowl. However, you could also use fresh strawberries.
  • Almond milk. This helps to give the smoothie bowl a creamy consistency. I used unsweetened almond milk, but you could also use coconut milk, oat milk, or your favorite dairy milk if you are not vegan.
  • Honey or maple syrup, to taste, optional. I find that I do not need to add any additional sweetener to this smoothie bowl. If you like a sweeter taste, feel free to add either honey or maple syrup. Just a little will do.
  • Your choice of toppings. I topped this smoothie bowl with sliced banana, fresh strawberries, shredded coconut, and chia seeds.
